1. The "of course there is a reserve but I am not going to tell you what it is" really puts me off buying any instrument, start it for the minimum you want for it, if people are prepared to pay it it will sell, if you price it too high it won't, I don't see the need for a covert reserve price
2. Looks like someone is missing a toilet seat From memory some of the earliest Telecasters were made from Pine so the wood should sound fine in the right context
3. BLATANT PLUG TIME The Primitives at Sound house Leicester on Friday........we are supporting them so it would be rude not to I guess!
4. The Chameleons at the Fleece in Bristol earlier in the year
5. I will never admit to having reached a level from which I cannot progress, I will always want to get better, something that may spur the OP on is to go back to some songs that inspired you to start playing but you could never get near to, now try them again a few years down the line and you may be inspired by how far you have come. For me White Boys and Heroes Gary Numan and What a Waste Ian Dury, two songs I never dreampt I could play, the fact that I can now spurs me on to learn more songs
6. I think it's the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, definitely got a horn section and may have a singer with an afro.....but then again I could be wrong!
7. I think stuff can be described as rare, my Precision Bass Lyte is rare in the condition it is, certainly compared to most I have seen come up for sale in recent years, if I sold it, would I describe it as rare....probably not, hopefully the photos would do the talking I think I would sooner use unusual as a description rather than rare
8. How about "Don't Call Me Baby" Voice of the Beehive a fantastic song from 86 / 87
9. http://www.ebay.co.u...NAAAOSwYHxWLNb5 Ok so not music related but I wonder if there is some kind of unwritten challenge to see who can list the worst restoration project possible, I like the comment from the seller "I will not sell the parts the car will sell complete" err no it won't most of it has already oxidised and I am sure if you loaded it onto a trailer and drove for any distance the wind would see to it that even less of it was left by the time you got it home. This is not the worst shed I have seen in the classics section but it has got to be pretty close!
10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gibson-Usa-Les-Paul-Body-Neck-/281838914770?hash=item419ee88cd2:g:3SEAAOSw14xWKqpg So this was a Les Paul Studio with a plain back, new I guess it was about £649.00 but removing all of the parts now makes it worth a starting price of £730.00 but if you don't want to risk losing it in a bidding war you can buy it now for £1100.00 which to quote the seller really is an "unbelievably low price"
11. I wonder what the expensive one weighs, I read an article recently with a guy that owned 2 of them the light one weighed in at 15lbs the somewhat heavier fretless weighed in at 22lbs I kid you not!!!
12. Now Then by Stiff Little Fingers...even the band don't like it but I think it is definitely one of their best......Bits of Kids, touch and Go and Falling down being my pick of the tracks
13. So we currently have two options on the table, modify the JV or sell the JV and buy something else.......I can understand the reluctance to modify an original JV and can also understand the reluctance to sell it and regret it down the line.....well option three is the prefect Basschat answer....simply keep the JV and buy another bass as well The OP doesn't say how many basses he currently owns but if it is less that 15 then surely another one wouldn't hurt at all, after all we are talking Precision's here, is it really possible to own too many
14.
Rumbled........ I thought I was the only one who'd done that! Have to admit I've never tried an 8x10, but have had on/off affairs with Mesa 1516's over the years, which have a mass roughly equal to the sun - still have one Modern cabs are fab, but nothing seems to move air like a big old-school cab......
Totally agree I really miss my 1516 cab (other than the weight of the damn thing!) it didn't matter what stage I played on, what the acoustics were I could always hear every note I played, much as I like the weight of my Markbass setup it doesn't sound as good as the Mesa did. True story...one of my first bass cabs was an H + H 8x10 which as with every other 8x10 of the time weighed at least a ton, I kept it in the garage at home, the only way I could get it in the car was flat on its back with the seats down.....not concentrating fully I went over a new fangled speed hump a bit too fast launching the cab into the air....landing with an almighty crash, I thought nothing of it and continued to the rehearsal....for some reason the cab no longer worked, I took it into my local guitar shop who checked it over and confirmed I had killed all eight speakers in one go, I can't remember what I did with the remains but that was the last 8x10 I ever owned, after that it was 1x15 and 4x10 cabs until I acquired the Mesa 1516
15. I only really use the bridge pickup but I have my strat wired to master tone so I can back the treble off, I run a set of Custom Shop 69's which are not too bright and a Callum trem block also takes some of the zinginess out of the guitar
16. Hi guys, I thought I would put up my first real restoration project, I have to say i am really pleased with the results, it was a horribly reliced Diamond Beatmaster from 1976, it looked horrendous as it was, I have always fancied a TV Yellow Junior so decided to give it a go with the results as imaged Stripping the finish was absolutely horrible as is was like 2mm of epoxy resin set hard over nearly 40 years, fortunately one of the repair centres I work with were kind enough to strip the bulk of the finish off for me
17. I think proportionally the Wal looks beautiful, for me it just looks right however, I would be put off owning one due to perceived weight issues and I don't think the electrics would give me the sound I wanted (not being keen on active electronics) I owned a Status series 3000 a few years ago, another beautiful looking bass but I just could not get a sound out of it that I liked
18. Yep what more do you need other than a good P
19.
http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2ca2e3ad33 It's a fine job, to be sure. I'm only worried that his [s]main[/s] only tools are a hammer and toothbrush
Corrected
20. Isn't this the standard make up of a band? Singer, needs to be an egomaniac type if they are any good as a front person, they need to be handled with care, the guitarist has the 2nd biggest ego again needs to be handled with care but he / she knows a good guitarist is easier to come by than a good front man... so a little hidden insecurity! The bass player, keeps the peace between singer and guitarist, keeps the band together, knows that without them the band is nothing, but is far too modest to shove it down said singer and guitarist's throat, Drummer says very little, they know the singer and guitarist have to be suffered but acknowledges the bass player holds the band together but also knows full well that without a good drummer the bass player is nothing! Keyboard players.....err I am sure that have a use But seriously I don't think I have ever played in a decent band where the singer and guitarist don't see themselves as "special" and as a bass player my attitude has always been "yeah whatever keeps the peace" if they try getting too "special" then I have voiced my concerns, things usually settle down again
21. I have my avatar bass for the bigger gigs and recording and the rest of the Precision's rotate as practice / smaller gig basses, the none Precision's I need to get off my backside and sell!
22.
A loan ;-)
I'm with him on this!
23. I am a big fan of the Lindy Fralin pickups I have different pickups in each of my Precision's and the Fralin equipped one is definitely my favourite and is preferred by both bands as well.....how much of it is down to the pickup though is a different question!
24. I am in the process of cutting back to just Precision's...trouble is I already have a lot of Precision's!
25. I don't think I would want to risk £1500 on that one, I am not sure about the body finish either there looks to be too much Black in the burst finish but that may be an illusion with the clearly wrong pick guard
