Look come on guys, he said he wanted it to slip away to avoid embarrassment, and now people keep bumping it back up to the top....no consideration at all -
Are there really different seasons for bands ?
Roger2611 replied to BILL POSTERS's topic in General Discussion
I only tend to play Simple Mind's "Someone, Somewhere in Summertime" in the summer as it doesn't feel right listening to it in the winter.....but I am not sure this contributes much to the conversation! -
If you can find a Japanese Precision Lyte for around that price I think you will be seriously impressed, they are really light, great fast necks and sound great. This is on Evilbay at the moment (I am not connected to the seller is any way but this is the same as mine and in a nicer colour) I think it's a reasonable price as well http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Precision-Bass-Lite-/321953261075?hash=item4af5e8e613:g:kmMAAOSwHjNWA8q8

It's funny it seems most were either pushed into it as there was no one else wanting to play bass or ended up doing it because there was already a guitarist, I was totally the opposite, I started on guitar because I couldn't find a bass I could afford, I spent two years playing the guitar (a £25.00 Satellite Strat copy) before I found a £50.00 un-named Precision, the rest....they say, is history!
-
I had one in Green brought it brand new some years back, unfortunately I could never get on with the fretted necks on Bass Collections, I always found I tended to kick the G string off the fretboard.....probably my technique more than the bass. I am always on the lookout for my 602 fretless coming back up for sale...that is my biggest sale regret!
-
I wanted to be Sid Vicious....for some strange reason back then!

Ahh just seen the additional photos, the body is definitely wrong if the neck is correct as a 62 reissue, unless someone has heavily modified the body, the bridge is wrong, the extra pickup is wrong, the jack in the body is wrong as is the extra control on the scratchplate. I am wondering if that may be a more recent Squier body?
-
It looks ok to me, certainly the neck looks genuine, not 100% sure about the body but I wouldn't put my mortgage on it being a fake, the Fralin pickups are excellent and IMO better than the standard Fender one, I would be a little suspicious over the pots and pickguard as I would expect the control area to have some shielding...but again that is only from my experience of P basses and I have never owned a Jap 62 reissue! A good few Fenders have different holes in the scratchplates / bodies that don't make a lot of sense, my 50's classic has holes in the scratchplate but not in the body, my 50's classic roadworn has holes by the bridge for a cover but doesn't come with them as standard! If you like it then it's a good one if you don't, sell it on
-
He's an amateur, that's definitely restorable, the roof is still attached to the body and it still looks like a Ford Anglia....I have seen far worse offered under the guise of brave restoration project!
-
As others have already said the DI box is usually the favoured route, when I record at home it is via an Ampeg B1 line out with excellent results, I do have a Red Audio condenser mike that has a roll off switch that removes the lowest end rumble that spoils a recording, it works well with guitar recording and reviews suggest it should be ok with the bass as well
-
As others have said I don't think a good covers band can be tied to one style, the band I used to play with started as a pop punk / indie band but brought in songs way outside of that limited genre, some that I really didn't care for but you have to give them a go and if they are well received by landlords and their punters they are the right songs to be playing, in a night we would end up playing stuff from the 50's 60's 70's 80's 90's and however you write the decades that came afterwards!
-
My 50's classic (my avatar).....simple really, I didn't like the look of it all black and gold and flashy, it was too expensive, and I had just brought my first 79 Precision, the guy in the shop said "try it" I said "No" he said "it plays brilliantly just give it a try I am interested in what you thin k of it" so I played it...was totally blown away by the way it played.....said" yeah it's great but I still don't like the look of it" got in my car drove round the block walked back in and brought the damn thing! I got rid of the gold pick guard and the pickup and the bridge and the tuners, err and the wiring and neck plate! but the neck / body combination is still the best Precision available anywhere in the world...ever.....maybe!

It's actually pretty close to what Rory Gallaher's Strat looked like, he was renown for having horrendous acid sweat which ate away at the finishes and hardware
-
To me it looks like the mould is still very present, I assume whoever supplied the material for the body must have had a dreadful cold at the time!

Dead Kennedys, Forest Fire, great intro and not easy to play at the right speed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8v3F1n8E-c

Ali McMordie, SLF Klaus Flouride, Dead Kennedys Stuart Morrow, New Model Army to name but a few
Didn't Hooky play a Shaftesbury in Joy Division?
Not the one I owned, you could throw a canvas over the strings and sleep on the fretboard as a tent! It was sprayed metallic purple and the action was measured in centimeters not millimeters!
-
I played a brand new one in PMT last year and really was amazed at how good it was, it was beautifully built, played like butter and had that Rick sound, had it not been in the walnut finish I would have brought it there and then. Give a new one a try and see what you think
-
The decal looks wrong to me but the butt end looks as I would expect, I wonder if it had the decal damaged or removed in the past and someone has replaced it to try and keep the bass looking authentic. I do think the paint in the neck cavity looks wrong, I am trying to remember but don't they tend to have an area down the left with no paint on, something to do with hanging them up for the spray process?
-
I have to agree with other posts, buy something you like rather than something by age, I have a beautiful 79 in Olly White with maple board, it looks fantastic, it's not heavy in fact it is probably the dream late 70's Precision......except it sound weak compared to my nearly new Roadworn, it doesn't play as well as the Roadworn and despite not being heavy it is still heavier that the Roadworn........gigs with Precision's this year about 40 gigs with the 79 Precision = None Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with my "vintage" bass it's just the new one is better in every way
-
Would Jamerson have been better if he had used a Rickenbacker?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Precision-1976-/281878121986?hash=item41a13ece02:g:JI4AAOSwcBhWZWIc What do we collectively reckon on this offering? To me the neck plate looks wrong... I would have thought it should have a gasket for this year? The logo looks wrong and I can't fathom out why someone would scratch off the pat numbers below the decal The headstock looks too orange
