1. I guess I am lucky in that I found a really excellent company to work for, Yes I take as much holiday as I can, I certainly work hard enough for it, I work the hours I need to get my job done, some weeks I will do 60 hours other weeks 30 hours, as long as I get my job done everybody's happy, I don't seek promotion, I like the job I do I do possess a few ties, I am not required to wear one but a smart shirt and tie works for me with the people I deal with being company ceo's and the likes Social media is allowed at work within reason, personally I don't agree with it as I am there to work, when I finish work I can social media to my hearts content Most of my colleagues have been with the company for 20 years plus, bear in mind the company is only 35 years old and operated with a staff level of 3 for the first 5 years. I have worked for some absolutely dreadful companies over the years, I am just lucky I stumbled on an excellent one...I have been approached with better paid offers on 3 occasions now and have turned each one down flat without a moments hesitation, is it a job for life?......Only time will tell but with the finances of the company where they are and the amount of money I save them...I don't see a reason to be looking elsewhere anytime soon
2. I have the Mark bass 4x10, 1x15 and a 2x10 traveller cab, my favourite set up is definitely the 6x10 option other than, despite being a lightweight cab, the 4x10 is still heavy and unwieldy so I tend to end up going with the 2x10 and 1x15 set up
3. A true broadcasting legend, RIP Sir Terry
4. I have swapped the gold scratchplate on my sunburst roadworn precision for a red tort one, it looks great
5. Mad! It looks great, sounds great and as a custom shop guitar will cost a great deal!
6.
50 today and suffer from the same affliction. That stuff doesnt interest me either. I cant remember anyone in my younger days that doted on blues, classic rock or mother my dog middle of the road stuff? They were all into punk and SKA. Perhaps we are supposed to contract the virus around the 50 mark?
Happy birthday chap!
7.
Would it be a maple board fretless by any chance? Looked at that too!
You got it! Thanks guys, I have had an offer from a Basschatter in Chorley, I have messaged the seller to make sure he would be happy with arrangements...could be another NBD coming up!
8. I can't remember the last time I came across the jug / hat thing but it's got to be 25 years ago at least, is this mainly for original bands as covers bands are normally a set fee agreed in advance?
9. We are bass players, it is our lot to have a moan! On a serious note I am sure a lot of us still love gigging and intend to keep doing it as long as possible....I intend one day to be able to declare myself as a professional musician (as I put as my occupation on my son's birth certificate some 27 years ago) for that to happen I am going to have to still be gigging when (if) I ever get to pension age so I can justifiably argue that most of my income is earned through music hence I am a professional musician. I am firmly in the 45-54 age group and do worry about things like venues closing, light weight gear etc but I am still young / fit enough to manage stairs within reason!
10. Hi Would anybody be able to collect a bass from Chorley and post it on to me, if I win it? Obviously I will pay postage and packing....I really want this bass but don't get up to that neck of the woods at all nowadays and sadly it is collect only Please PM me if you can assist http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maya-Fretless-Bass-Guitar-/321990999555?hash=item4af828be03:g:iJEAAOSwJb9WqOpx Cheers Rog
11. "You can check out anytime you like but you can never leave" I like it here and whilst I continue to play bass I shall not be moved....when I become a keyboard player I will never talk to any of you again and will hang out with proper musicians on "I'm a prima donna without a volume control chat" You have been warned
12. Chameleons, Script of the Bridge The Cult, Love The Mission, God's Own Medicine Sisters Of Mercy, First and Last and Always 4 classic alternative albums of the 80's with only the Cult being anywhere near mainstream
13. I love Radio 6 music, there are some fantastic new bands getting played on there, just a shame I can't get them to play our band
14. Leicester seems to have a thriving small music scene, there are 5 or 6 small venues supported by a number of local promoters putting on regular music nights and showcasing some excellent young / local ish talent...I say ish because we are neither young or local to Leicester (Northampton / Corby) but neither town seems to have the slightest interest in original music......the owners of the Zombie Hut (Corby) have got rid of the guy who puts the bands on and the once famous Roadmender club (Northampton) rarely has decent bands on and when they do the support slot policy is "whatever demo is sitting st the top of the pile" when they need a local band...... Seeing the quality of some of the talent in Leicester convinces me that music won't die and hopefully the cooperation between promoters and venues will keep music alive in the city for towns like Corby and Northampton I am not so sure, at least Corby local radio shows an interest in local bands unlike Northampton
15.
why do I get this error when clicking on items for sale, in notifications, sometimes?,
I thought it was something my good lady had put in place to stop me buying stuff
16.
Do eBay actually do anything about reporting? There are a few sellers of fake hockey jerseys that I've been consistently reporting when I see their listings and eBay have never done a thing about it.
These listings were the same as a spate of fake listings a couple of years back, the scammer hijacks a genuine seller account with the standard "do not bid, email this Gmail / Hotmail address for terms on buying" the listings are all for very expensive items all at the same "bargain" price with free postage and all listings with a single photo....for some reason the scammers were too thick to realise that using the same photos everytime was a bit of a giveaway! The seller t3cjn would have been totally unaware they had been hacked, looking at their other listings they had no other items for sale so would have been totally unaware of the scammer. Ebay did seem to have a handle on this for the last couple of years, I was surprised to see the same scam return especially with the same pictures. Ebay did pull the items very quickly and to a degree Ebay is self policing, a number of camera items listed had been bid to 3 or 4 times what the scammer was offering buy it now for, we will highlight it on here...but it only takes one idiot to think they can pick up a mint 64 Jazz for £1000 and the scammer gets away with it For those that sell on Ebay...check you for sale items regularly!
17.
Dying twice is really bad luck. Having said that, anyone who saw us play in the early days saw us die live on stage pretty much every night.
To die once is unfortunate to die twice is careless in the extreme
18. "You pays your money you takes your chance" all parcel companies will do their best to get your bass delivered quickly and undamaged but all parcel companies will have had horror stories against them from disgruntled customers, I guess they transport tens of thousands of items every year, most without any issue so the chances of it getting damaged, whilst no less annoying if it does happen, is probably very low
19. Just for anyone that has been living on Mars for the last couple of years...the scammers are back on Ebay....this is a scam along with everything else listed on this poor seller page at the moment....don't be tempted! All reported so Ebay should pull them shortly but just wanted to warn people again http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-1966-FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-J-BASS-ELECTRIC-GUITAR-/301852859833?hash=item4647d51db9:g:6ZEAAOSwCypWn79u
20. I have a feeling this is a scam sale as I recognise the useless description from a few years back....I doubt many are queuing up the buy this "Jazz" bass but I doubt it would be much of a bargain! I assume it would be payment by Western Union only!
21. Other than the price I like that too!
22. Why? and another question......why?
23. I would expect a decent front man to be able to learn 30 songs over a couple of months and gig them with a music stand close by for about another 4 or 5 months after that
24. I can remember one thing Sid Vicious said "Listen to the Eagles they're better than us" I did....he was correct! RIP Glen another song writing genius stolen away
25. I guess if I were auditioning for a tribute band I would want to learn the basslines note for note, for a covers band it is always going to be a compromise, learn the song so you can jam along confidently to it, turn up to the audition and see how they play it, you can add and take away as needed....remember all covers bands are going to be a compromise of sorts, they will all be learning and trying to play the famous radio friendly versions of most of the songs which will usually mean they are full of overdubs and embellishments that you cannot hope to fully replicate live. Learn the songs to a jam-able standard, turn up, play with confidence and enjoy it, if you know you can play then it is the latter two that will get you the gig
