Dodgy bands you've seen , and enjoyed the gig ;)

Bucks Fizz.....yes really! -
Visualise yourself playing it as you listen along, maybe accompanied by a bit of fret hand twitching
A bit of air bass never hurt anyone
Ageism is still very real in music, whereas other artforms it isn't. At 60 you're not "past it" to be a painter or "past it" to be a writer. But you know... a lot of the time it's all going back to the idea that band members should make the contents of people's pants feel funny. It was a lot better when ugly people were allowed in bands.
Ugly people are allowed in bands I am a case in point! Our originals band are all rapidly approaching 50 yet we have more promoters wanting to put us on than any band I have ever played in before.....maybe an original "Inde" band in there late 40's is in demand because we turn up on time, have reliable gear don't, pee off the sound engineer and yet still make a good noise....I suppose the best way to describe it is we are not hard work
-
Our band had a policy of if a gig was booked and someone then decided they couldn't do it then it was their job to ring the venue, apologise, explain and book another date with the venue...I think that is a fair policy. Why should you do all the hard work only for a lazy guitarist to go and create a load more for you. I broke my arm the other year and I was still made to ring round and do the grovelling, despite a couple of months notice we still lost two venues who wouldn't tolerate bands cancelling gigs...as the above post says it is very easy to damage your reputation and very hard to recover it

£850 does seem rather steep for a Fender fretless neck which from the description may have had the fretboard swapped and a Jazz bass body of unknown origins

Trying to look a little more cheerful on stage :-/
Roger2611 replied to Deedee's topic in General Discussion
I think in a lot of cases before we start thinking about smiling we need to drag our fixed gaze away from the fretboard, acknowledge our surroundings and trust ourselves that we do know what we are playing and don't need to be looking at the fretboard in order to play the song right.....I still regularly remind myself of this when onstage -
It turned out to be a frapping acoustic set...so no bass player...gutted....but I have to say, seldom have I been more impressed with an acoustic set.....the man has genuine talent. I understand the Bluetones are touring later this year, if they play anywhere locally I will be attending

Probably my White Gretsch Electromatic, it was my 40th birthday present to me, ok it isn't a White Falcon but as I am not playing guitar in a band at the moment a White Falcon would be an expensive luxury.....The Electromatic looks the part sounds the part and just makes me happy when i play it, the other one would be my modified Fender Custom Shop Princeton Reverb amp....it is every guitar amp I ever wanted

The headstock will give you nightmares...
Roger2611 replied to bornagainbass65's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It looks like there is some kind of writing on whatever was used to "repair" the neck, I am worried whoever "repaired" the neck just put a sticker over the damage (possibly after filling the cracks with glue) and thought...."yeah that oughta fix it" I may give that one a miss! -
Cool - whereabouts are you playing? I did a support slot in The Donkey in Leicester last Saturday for a headliner called Marc O'Reilly. Hadn't heard of him before but honestly it was stunning music. Turned into an amazing night out.
We are at the Musician, not played there before so not sure what it is going to be like
-
We have just been offered a support slot for Mark Morris (he of Bluetones fame) this Friday in Leicester, I am really excited as the song "If" by the Bluetones has to be one of my all time favourite basslines I'm all excited now

Cracking job, I wish I could do it but I used to be in the same woodworking class as Ambient..... Still on the upside it has saved me from many weekends of pointless DIY torture that would have resulted in blisters, untold amounts of cursing and that mocking look of disappointment from the father in law when he has to come round to make the house safe again
I removed the wooden labelling inside the van to install seats. The supporting pillar has be badly damaged and repaired. It has had a new outer skin.
I have lots of vans coming back to me that are 12 months old, it is not unusual to find at least 1 a month that has had a structural panel replaced, sometimes it is a better repair to replace a panel rather than repair one with shed loads of filler, on the current VW Crafter / Mercedes Sprinter van the side panels are bonded on not even welded so replacing them makes a lot of sense. The fact that it took the removal of the ply lining to find a repair had been done suggests it was probably done when they vehicle was pretty new, the van has probably had a couple of owners since that were oblivious to the repair.

You are on shaky ground, unless you can prove there was an issue with the vehicle that the seller knew about and deliberately disguised so as to dispose of the vehicle then you are on a loser, with something like a gearbox it would be virtually impossible to even guess on an impending failure let alone do something that would disguise the fact it was about to fail. Have you looked into the cost of replacing the box or getting it repaired? If the rest of the vehicle is ok then throwing a few hundred pounds extra at it may be worthwhile if it leaves you with a decent vehicle once sorted, you have to remember with a van they are work horses, usually reasonably maintained but seldom loved You say you paid nearly £3000 for it, was it cheap at that price or was it the going rate for this vehicle in the advertised condition? I hope you get it sorted

Modern (80s and onwards) albums mixed in mono
Roger2611 replied to darkandrew's topic in General Discussion
Blimey, I doubt I would be able to read it on an album cover these days, on a CD cover not a chance! I am not sure I would even notice a mono mixed album, I don't think there are many albums that stand out for their stereo mix, Jean Michelle Jarre is about the only artist I remember for interesting stereo mixes, I will follow this thread with interest to see if it turns out I own any mono mixed albums! -

I really like it, not £865.00 like it, but like it none the less!
