  1. There was an old Vauxhall Vectra running round Corby at one point with the reg MU51CAL on it, it was one of those second glance moments. I worked for a company back in 1992 that took delivery of 10 Vauxhall Cavalier company cars J40UAR through to J49UAR and sitting in the middle was J46UAR, the company sold the plate for more than the car cost!
  2. It has to be a case of buyer beware, if a potential buyer doesn't check then this chancer makes a big profit, if potential buyers do some simple checks then this chancer has stuff on sale for ever and a day
  3. I was thinking along the lines of a general resources thread, Yodaclub are indie I guess but that covers a lot of ground musically, obviously we wouldn't be looking to play a Jazz Fusion festival (if such a thing exists) hence my idea would be something like the below Festival.....Willow Festival Location....Northampton Organiser....................... Contact.......................... Type of Festival.....Unsigned bands all genres Apply by...........date Or for Promoters Promoter...Wide Awake Promotions (Paul Collins) Contact details......... Location....Leicester Venue sizes.....50-150 capacity booking artists like Mark Morris, Dodgy, Wonderstuff etc. I think this could be a really useful resource for bands looking to expand outside their comfort zone / local area?
  4. Hi guys, Yodaclub are looking to try and get on the bill for some more festivals next year so each band member has been tasked with finding festivals in the localish area, name and dates of this years festival, type of acts on the bill and a contact name for the organiser. I know we had a recent thread where someone was looking for a promoter in the East Midlands area to hopefully replace a couple of lost tour dates.I was able to offer up a couple for the Leicester area. So, it got me thinking, could we do something on here for promoters and festival organisers in your local area so others know what festivals are about and who to contact if it is a festival that suits? Annoyingly we have recently had the Willow Festival in Northampton, supposedly the biggest festival for unsigned bands in the UK and we knew nothing about it until after it had happened and yet we are a Northampton Band, unsigned, getting local radio play and even a national play via BBC introducing, doing decent supports in Leicester but can't get a gig or festival in our hometown! Would a pinned thread be possible or even wanted? Rog
  5. I have to agree with much of the above, one observation not mentioned yet (sorry if it has been and I missed it) it is perfectly normal to feel tension to some degree in the run up to a gig, I am sure most, if not all, of us recognise that we are more irritable, short tempered, difficult etc. in the run up to gigs, maybe not to the same degree you are experiencing at the moment, but to some degree. I get more irritable if I can't run through the set list on the day of a gig so doing every gig without an agreed set list would drive me potty and, without question, would see me seriously consider my future with the band as would working with musicians I couldn't have complete confidence in that they would turn up, with gear and keep themselves sober and professional throughout the gig, again that would see me hugely more tense before gigs. It does sound from your original post that you may be nearing the time where you need to take that break, put down the bass for a couple of years, sell some gear, do other things, at some point you will pick it up again with renewed vigour. I stopped playing for six years, I never picked up a bass or guitar for the whole time, I actually wrote a couple of purely electronic albums just because I felt like it, then one day I said to Mrs2611 "I really fancy playing in a band again" I got back into a decent covers band and have never looked back, I probably enjoy playing now more than I ever did when I was younger. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, I hope it sorts itself out for you
  6. I did sound for a band at the Bull and Gate in Kentish Town many years back, I can't remember who the headline band were but the singer climbed up a speaker stack that had 3 televisions stacked on top to grab hold of a beam that must have been a good 15ft above the stage, he managed to topple the 3 TV's off the side of stage and was left dangling in mid air, Cue the end of the gig, a very very annoyed sound engineer, a rush to find a step ladder to rescue the dangling singer and I imagine a bill to replace 3 TV's. The exuberance of youth
  7. Have you considered the Warwick Corvette $$? it is suggested it is a Warwick take on a Stingray, I actually traded a Stingray for mine because I couldn't take to a Stingray sound and thus far have kept the Warwick, so I assume it doesn't sound exactly like a Stingray! I do find everytime I play it everything seems to end up a little funky! It could be the prefect bass? If you are near Northampton I have a 4 string you are welcome to try Rog
  8. I can't seem to find any love for the photo flame finish, which is probably a good thing as I have enough Precision's already!
  9. I depped for a final gig for a rock covers band in London some years back, tracking including Queen, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy etc. I knew the band quite well so knew how they played the songs, there was no opportunity for a rehearsal so I asked the guitarist for the key for the songs we were doing, I scored everything out that i needed and turned up to the gig only to find that the guitarist tuned to D rather than E and everything he had given me was around D tuning...it didn't go well! Halfway through the set the singer decided to deviate from the set we had agreed and play a bunch of songs that I hadn't even had the chance to learn! I am better with being able to transpose on the fly nowadays as long as you can still play the same patterns, something like a transpose from D down to F would flummox me completely
  10. Thanks guys, borrowed a 7mm Snap on ring spanner from a mate, that was thin enough to get on the nut....job's a good un as they say!
  11. Try Paul Collins at Wake Up Promotions Leicester (search Wake Up Promotions of Facebook), he promotes a lot of the gigs we have been playing in Leicester, he does some decent small to medium sized acts at the better venues in Leicester.
  12. I had a quick listen, sadly on my laptop I can't really pick out the bass, I couldn't find a bass TAB for it but there is a guy on Youtube doing a guitar cover, but helpfully he doesn't tell you what the tuning is, so, in a nutshell, that pretty much knackers up my way of doing things, yes, I can normally work things out by ear in the end but it is far easier to have a look at TAB for a general idea of where it goes and even better if there is a decent learn to play tutorial on Youtube you can see pretty much exactly how it is played. You could try emailing the bands site and asking if there is a bass TAB available?
  13. Yodaclub have a couple of festivals lined up over the next few weeks, the only thing I want out of them is dry and warm anything else is a bonus, there is nothing better than a big stage with a good crowd out front on a hot summer evening, but nothing worse than a big stage with a couple of die hard locals out front sheltering under a golf umbrella while it tips it down again!
  14. I use a couple of old camera cases, LM3 and leads in one, all other leads, mics, tuner, David Eden bass pre amp (as a back up rather than carrying a spare head) in the other. If I am just using the 2x10 traveller cab I can usually load in and out in two trips, if I am using the 4x10 or 1x15 as well then three trips will do it
  15. I think the weight of it will be having a big impact on its value, that along with the damage in the first fret area and the swapped controls doesn't make a very desireable example of what is recognised as being Fender's worst period
  16. I got a comment after soundcheck for a recent gig from one of the other bands members "that was amazing you are more like a lead guitarist than a bass player" I am not sure how much of a compliment that was but I turned my amp up until everything else was drowned out an widdled away throughout the gaps between songs before stomping off in a huff when I failed to pull after the gig!
  17. Ok, a couple of years back I had a hankering for a Gibson 335, I brought one brand new for £1700.00, everytime I played it I hated the sticky feeling from the Nitrocellulose neck, I never felt at home with it, after 3 months I traded it for a brand new Strat which was £995.00 at the time....so I make that £234.00 a month depreciation costs for it! I also brought a really really nice 79 Precision a few years back for £1500.00 with the market as it is I doubt it would see £800.00 at present but I have no intention of selling it so I guess that does count as a loss at this point, call it a banked loss if you will. I do tend to find that if I own it, it is currently only worth 50% of what I paid for it
  18. hijacking the thread slightly but I checked through our set list the other year to see what basses the bass player was using and whether they played finger style or pick live, I was quite surprised at how many players used a Precision played with a pick live whereas on the original record it was another type of bass played finger style My most surprising example was Golden Touch by Razorlight, the live video I found was from Glastonbury where the bassist was rocking out with a Black on Black Precision played with a pick, the other end of the scale was a classic Buzzcocks track played finger style on a Jazz bass!
  19. Back to the top for this one I am afraid, I brought a 1/4 box spanner which would fit the nut but it is too long to go in the channel, if I cut it down I would have to cut 90% of the socket area away meaning it wouldn't even reach the nut! I can get a 1/4 socket on the nut but can't get anything on the back of it to make an adjustment, I have my doubts a ring spanner will get in there, so it seems to be a case on elongating the channel which seems a little extreme....unless anyone has anything else that might do the trick? Rog
  20. I enjoyed New Order, I thought the white Precision sounded pretty mighty, I know Bernard's voice isn't the strongest but I thought they delivered, The Foals on Friday sounded good but I have not seen much else that would make me want to go.....Thinking about it, I am 50 this year and have never been, short of a live set from the original Ramones I doubt there is a single thing on the planet that would persuade me to spend 3 days getting there, 3 days wallowing in mud, and 3 weeks recovering from the experience! Old and grumpy but not covered in mud
  21. Aswad, New Chapter Clint Eastwood and General Saint, Two Bad DJ Yellowman, Yellowman Rides again Eek A Mouse, Wa-Do-Dem Or if you fancy something truly off the wall and if you can find it: Dr Pablo and the Dub Syndicate, South of the River Thames, sort of Jean Michelle Jarre meets heavy dub if you will
  22. Excellent, thank you
  23. I am not sure about the neck, my 79 Precision definitely has more of a shine to the headstock, this one looks like it is almost a satin finish, could be down to crap images but the neck with the question over the burst finish as well would make me want to have a lot closer look before I would consider bidding for it
  24. I wonder if the promoter was testing you out, our first gigs in and around Leicester were similar situations, small PA's with no monitors, a seeming total lack of organisation with the promoter only turning up ten minutes from the end of the night, I have to say my first thoughts were "what a waste of time" and "this promoter is just small fry" A couple of weeks later we start getting offered decent supports with known acts at Leicester's "proper" music venues. Promoters like to see that bands turn up on time, with reliable kit, play with an air of professionalism and stay until the end of the night to support the other acts. As a 4th gig I would have stayed and played but would still have been a little peed off with the apparent lack of organsiation
  25. I play guitar and keys and do a bit of vocals but I tend to write around a bassline more than anything else
