Dead Kennedys, Forest Fire, great intro and not easy to play at the right speed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8v3F1n8E-c

Ali McMordie, SLF Klaus Flouride, Dead Kennedys Stuart Morrow, New Model Army to name but a few
Didn't Hooky play a Shaftesbury in Joy Division?
Not the one I owned, you could throw a canvas over the strings and sleep on the fretboard as a tent! It was sprayed metallic purple and the action was measured in centimeters not millimeters!

I played a brand new one in PMT last year and really was amazed at how good it was, it was beautifully built, played like butter and had that Rick sound, had it not been in the walnut finish I would have brought it there and then. Give a new one a try and see what you think
-
The decal looks wrong to me but the butt end looks as I would expect, I wonder if it had the decal damaged or removed in the past and someone has replaced it to try and keep the bass looking authentic. I do think the paint in the neck cavity looks wrong, I am trying to remember but don't they tend to have an area down the left with no paint on, something to do with hanging them up for the spray process?

I have to agree with other posts, buy something you like rather than something by age, I have a beautiful 79 in Olly White with maple board, it looks fantastic, it's not heavy in fact it is probably the dream late 70's Precision......except it sound weak compared to my nearly new Roadworn, it doesn't play as well as the Roadworn and despite not being heavy it is still heavier that the Roadworn........gigs with Precision's this year about 40 gigs with the 79 Precision = None Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with my "vintage" bass it's just the new one is better in every way

Would Jamerson have been better if he had used a Rickenbacker?

A bit of a "Heath Robinson" if I remember the term right!

I would have thought it should have a gasket for this year? The logo looks wrong and I can't fathom out why someone would scratch off the pat numbers below the decal The headstock looks too orange
Isn't that Ashdown?
I thought that as well but, for me, Ashdown is nothing like the classic Trace gear we know and loved, I agree with other posts in that the TE name should be brought back with real quality products....nowadays I too am a Mark Bass bitch but the idea of a similar quality rig from TE...hell yeah put me down as very excited!

14 tips on how to be a succesful covers band
Roger2611 replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Some really good points in there, irrespective of how long we have been playing in covers bands there are always tips we can learn! I also liked the bar owners perspective, it is largely common sense but it helps to think of it from that angle! The top 50 songs.....we played two, I have personally played about twelve and there were probably 10 songs I had never even heard of! so not sure about that list in this country at least! -

The opening riff to Stiff Little Fingers "Alternative Ulster" always excites me knowing the song is about to kick off big time -
One definition of a professional musician is someone who earns more from music than they spend on equipment.
Oh god...I am a rank amateur then

I know we like to complain about the various delivery companies operating out there but today I got home to a card through the door from TNT, the usual "tried to deliver...no one in yadda yadda" so I thought "brilliant a trip to the local depot tomorrow to collect it" anyway about 2 hours later I get a knock on the door, the same TNT driver was on his way back from the other side of town and was a bit early to start his collections so he thought he would nip back round and see if anybody was in! Blimey, I was utterly gobsmacked in this day and age that somebody would actually go that extra mile...I thanked him profusely and will email TNT to express my thanks again. His answer was "meh it would have been back on my van tomorrow" Well done Mr TNT driver!

I would go for 12's on the monitors, a bit bigger but you will get a better sound and I imagine with a 5 piece band small monitors will struggle....but my strongest advice would be buy the best you can, be it either 10's or 12's the better you get the happier you will be....buy second hand if you can....a second hand Proel 12" monitor will cost you about the same as a new "The Box" 12" monitor......the Proel is 100 times better. Mixer wise you are on your own...from what you mention you are talking technology far newer than my Peavey XR800 powered desk!

If only he'd used a real Rickenbacker ...

Hooky.... huge respect as a bass player......as a person, from what I have seen and heard in recent years.....I can't offer the same respect -
Your drummer may know other drummers, ask him if he could recommend anyone, if not "Join My Band" seems to be the go to site for musicians....if Drumchat exists then an ad on there should get you noticed....bands come and go all the time, the band dynamic will change with a new member but onwards and upwards I think they say!

Yep! A TU tuner, a chorus pedal an octave pedal (used for that Pino sound) and a Tech 21 VT pedal......mostly it's the tuner and Tech 21 pedal that gets used

I love the description on the blade.... "special plywood technology as manufacturing stringed instruments" because we all know how good plywood guitars are! TBH I use a plywood bat...they are great for table tennis.....not sure I would want to sling a bridge and some strings on my bat and start gigging it though!

A 1979 Crass T'shirt still with bondage strap rings (I know it's a 1979 as it is numbered 521984 or 5 years to 1984 as they used to number their shirts) It is framed and hanging on the wall nowadays as the material is really brittle, and I can just push my finger through it....I also still have 1979 Acme, Pistols T'shirts, Destroy and God Save the Queen but there really isn't much left of them now. The next oldest would be a 1986 Animal Boy tour Ramones shirt,,,,arms cut off and shoe laces holding the sides together....boy was I fashionable back then! I will post pictures if I am the winner of oldest T'shirt contest

A Precision bass and an ampeg SVT2 and 8x10 cab....my thinking is......the sheer volume of the ampeg stack should scare off the locals and bitey animals, the svt would also double as an effective heater on chilly nights and the 8x10 would be the basis of both a small house and an ocean going vessel if need be....the precision is already well renown as a weapon / paddle......they don't call me Bear Griddled for nothing! -
A very interesting documentary, but it unfortunately looked like it had been filmed by a first year art student and as a result it got annoying very quickly.
I agree, I have recorded it but I watched the first 10 minutes and found it annoying, I am just not into Julian Temple's directing
