1. Thinking about it, it could have been that 320/330w is the full output clean and that we've no idea what the distortion figure is for Ibanezes quoted wattage. Which is what Oli was saying. A bit naughty is they're quoting a figure based on ridiculous amounts of distortion.
2.
Hi all I've just picked up my trusty Promethean head up from the Tech chap, after I thought it had developed a fault. (It turns out the amp is fine - it was a dodgy speaker cable). Anyway, while trying to recreate the problem he ran various tests, and told me it puts out 330w into 4ohm and 120w into 8ohm. ...this is an amp that's marketed as 500w. Now, I have no problems with the output of the amp - it's very loud, and Mr. Tech was very impressed with it. But, assuming most class-D manufacturers are doing what TC do, i.e. being economical with the truth, isn't it time they followed EBS's lead, and stopped inflating the ratings?
It does make you wonder how accurate the figures given by manufacturers are, and I'm sure 'spec inflation' goes on a lot more than we think. Those figures are a little strange though - 330w at 4 ohms but only 120w at 8 ohms? I'm not tech savvy enough to know if that could be correct, but I was under the impression that even theoretically you can only double the wattage when the impedance is halved. I don't suppose it's possible there is some kind of fault with the amp that your tech has missed is there, or that he's made an error in testing the output?
3.
Pete Best might be able to help you there...
Or Ian Stewart...
4. "The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side." Hunter S. Thompson
5.
I'd have to disagree about that assessment. Definitely at the bottom of the scale, quality-wise, for production from Matsumoku. Certainly built to a price point, which shows. Usual b*llsh*t about all these coming with DiMarzio pickups, etc, etc. Matsumoku's own, in-house pickups, or stuff sourced sourced from Maxon. Personally, at anything more that £50, I wouldn't waste your money.
Are you sure about that? They were definitely advertised as coming with DiMarzios, even using the DiMarzio logo IIRC. That's not to say that perhaps earlier/later models weren't fitted with something else though.
6. I'm assuming you're looking for something very cheap here. Besides Crack Converters, which can throw up the odd bargain, you'll be hard pushed to do better than the marketplace forums on here or the more obvious ebay/gumtree. Ebay has been the death of most of the junk shops and house clearance places that used to have the occasional bass, and music shops' secondhand stock is always more expensive than buying privately. Unless you want to trawl around car boot sales on a regular basis a wanted ad on here is probably your best bet. What kind of money are you looking to spend?

Slow?

Horrendously slow for me at the moment. Even the avatars on the front page are loading line by line.

Taking the "couple of hundred quid" budget literally, you pretty much limited to the likes of secondhand Hartke, Peavey and Ashdown. The MB112 might struggle a bit at gigs, but should be usable as long as there's PA support. Or hang on for a Peavey Mk IV and 2x15. But neither your other half nor your back will thank you for it.
9. I think that's a BCer's bass. I thought I'd seen those pictures before, but the post has now been edited. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/184768-removed
10. I've never used a BA300 so I can't really comment on what they usually sound like. But the one in the studio was clearly knackered, so I'm not sure the sound was a true reflection of what they're capable of. So, when did you report the problem to the studio.
11. The Little Giants had a bit of a problem with the volume for the rated output of them. It was down to the output of the preamp apparently, which was on the low side. Putting a pedal to boost the volume between the pre and power amps is supposed to improve things no end.
12.
I used to have an SVT 6 Pro and it had the same problem although not as bad as yours. It used to trip my house power occasionally when first powered up but was fine elsewhere. It does draw a lot of power when first switched on apparently. There is a fix for it, I remember reading something about it at the time.
Yeah, I remember that as well, probably this thread - http://basschat.co.u...-inrush-current Oh, and welcome to the forum Andy.
13.
I don't think the old Carlsbros were wired this way. The amp chassis was also packaged as a head, and the outputs were wired in parallel pretty much as you would expect. When they mounted it in a combo, I assume they anticipated no-one would want to cart an additional cab around so they packaged it with a 4 ohm speaker even though the speaker sockets were still accessible.
You might well be right, but it sounds like a recipe for disaster.
14.
Well it ended with 1 bid of £79.99 Let's hope the dopey bugger shilled himself for it.
Funny that you should mention that. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CUSTOM-BUILT-ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR-or-upright-electric-bass-WOW-/180961649612
15. Sounds like the amp is producing it's full 150w into the internal speaker and the speaker outputs are wired in series. Adding an extra cab with this scenario will result in a drop in the wattage. Some modern combos like Hughes and Kettner do this. The other scenario might be that the original speaker has been replaced with a 4 ohm one, though if you've had it from new you can rule that out. So you could replace the existing one with either a 4 or 8 ohm speaker, it just depends how much you want the full wattage and whether you're likely to want to use another cab. In terms of wattage alone there's scarcely any difference in volume between the 150w and 100w you're likely to get with an 8 ohm speaker. It's quite possible that a modern neo will offset any difference by being more efficient anyway.
16. FWIW I've use a Ritter gigbag. It doesn't have a shoulder strap, just the usual rucksack style ones, but with the straps set to their longest it only sits an inch or two above my head when carried on one shoulder.
17. I've used pretty much the same cab for the last 30years for bass duties, a Marshall 4x12 loaded with 50w speakers (only one original Celestion though). It really depends what you're looking for in a cabinet - it won't do any real bass, as the frequency response drops off like a stone below 100hz. But then I've always been about low mids rather than bass. And this cabs has low mids aplenty. You're unlikely to do any damage to it so give it a shot. Mine survived 6 months as the bass backline in a rehearsal room with 175w on tap, with doubtless the typical kind of abuse studio amps get, and only one speaker got damaged. With sensible use you'll be fine.
18.
I'm using a mesa powerhouse cab 4 10 and a mesa 400+ head. The cab needs to be 4 Ohms.
Are you looking to replace a speaker in the powerhouse? If so, the 4 ohm 410 uses 16 ohm speakers in parallel, so you'll need a 16 ohm speaker.
19.
It was designed as a safety feature. A few weeks ago I was wondering why UK plugs are the design they are and looked it up, that's how I know. http://en.wikipedia..../BS_1363#Design The strain should be taken up by the cable grip where the cable enters the plug, not the wires.
That's what I said: a design fault. If the cables are fitted properly it's not an issue, but unfortunately they're often not and that's when the extra distance to the earth pin becomes an issue.
20.
Even the placement of the pins in the plug, the Live wire is the shortest so that if the cable is pulled out of the plug while it's plugged in the Live is the first to be disconnected and the Earth, being the longest, is the last.
That's not a safety feature, it's a design fault. The cable lengths should be trimmed so that if the cable is pulled there is equal strain on all of the cables. However most people don't bother, which means it is the earth which will take the strain. Failure to wire plugs properly is the reason why new equipment is now fitted with plugs as standard.
21.
Thanks for the advice guys and yeah I kinda do want to run all the cabs...mainly just because I have them and I can... until I find a good deal on something decent anyway. I'm not too worried about devaluing them...ive messed about with em recovering and whatnot so many times Well I think I'm gonna go with Dads suggestion allthough im not 100% on the maths... I worked it out to be something like 10ohms that way. just to check 2 16 ohm cabs daisy chained together gives 32 ohms then those in parallel with a 16 ohm cab would give 1/((1/32)+(1/16)) = 10.6 ohm new to this calculation but i think thats correct TF
It's definitely 5.3 ohms. Daisy chaining the two 210 16 ohm cabs won't give you 32 ohms as the cab sockets will be wired in parallel. So what the amp will 'see' is three 16 ohm cabs.
22. Douglas' suggestion above is the way to go. You don't have to run the amp at either 4 or 8 ohms, just as long as it's running above it's minimum impedance (which will be 4 ohms) everything will be fine.
23. I think Lozz is returning to that Ampeg set up after going through a bunch of other combinations of amps/cabs, so maybe he'll chip in. If you're hoping that the 210 plus the 500w amp is going to match the Ashdown/410 combo for volume you might be disappointed though. I don't know the relative efficiencies of the drivers in those cabs, but I'd expect them to be pretty similar. Given that, the 210 will be less capable of moving the same amount of air as the 410 and you might be looking at getting another 210 for those bigger gigs.
24. I thought domestic electrical appliances in the UK had to be fitted with a 3 pin plug. Do instrument amplifiers not count as a domestic appliance?
25. Creative. Not very creative. Mind you, I could have done the same with many tracks 'written' by Led Zep which don't feature sampling.
