Yup, splendid ideas! I can't figure out why Peavey haven't produced a decent class D based microhead too. Weren't they at the forefront of getting super small power amps on the market? Well 1u ones anyway. I loved my Peavey gear when I had it, for a solid state setup it sounded bloody marvellous, was just a little bit heavy. Would love to see a Peavey Microhead and matching 1x12 cabs.
Peavey have had the Headliner available in the US for a couple of years, although with a standard rack width it's not really a microhead. And in true Peavey fashion it's a bit heavier than most other class D amps as well. I don't think the new TNT is available over here either.
No. No, it wasn't. Bluesmen look good in suits.
Whilst I would normally agree with you, no bluesman is going to look good in that suit. Peaked lapels, really?
And my favourite track
And that neatly explains the state of the bass.

I think it depends on your other options in the area. If the promoter has the best gig in the area sewn up I'd consider swallowing it, but I'd let him know he's had his 'reduced fee' gig and you'll be expecting your full fee next time.

Ampeg B-HLF 410 vs Hartke Hydrive 4x10 HELP!!!
Musky replied to kevindoudie's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks! He has already asked me I have owned both cabs and in my opinion I did find the Hartke to have a more defined/precise sound than the Ampeg, which I thought had quite a boomy and loose bottom end. This is my modest and honest opinion, not an attempt to sell my cab.
+1 on your opinion of the HLF. It's all about the bottom end with the mids not so much scooped as almost absent altogether. -
Yep. Buying a used Peavey, Ashdown, Hartke and also Trace Elliot are fairly standard recommendations in this price bracket. All decent, all reliable, all available cheaply.
+1, word for word.
Ditto, only I've yet to discover anything remotely tempting about EBMM's effort. I used to really like tobacco sunburst and even bought a Fender in that colour. Didn't last that long before I was reaching for a rattle can though.

Just as an aside, the reason for complaint would be 'unsatisfactory quality' rather than 'unfit for purpose'. Unfit for purpose is when goods cannot be used for their intended purpose, e.g. if you'd been sold a guitar rather than a bass, but it doesn't refer to the quality of the goods. As has been already said, you'll probably find yourself on a sticky wicket trying to pursue this now and a diplomatic approach to DV247 is probably your best bet.

I bought a short scale on here, and that was tuned to fifths - 120-90-60-30. Seemed to work well with decent and even tension across the strings. It was quite interesting using the same strings tuned to fourths, but even then they were usable. I left the bass tuned to fifths for quite a while though. It was quite fun playing regular patterns to see what it sounded like - inspirational in fact. I then just transposed the ideas across to a normally tuned bass. So definitely worth a punt if you're looking to kick start your creativity.

Welcome to my world.
In the end it really doesn't matter wot Fender did and didn't do regarding skunk stripes, as it has no real bearing on the fact that the bass in my OP is well dodgy, and even if it did have a skunk stripe the fact remains that the headstock is NOT the right shape to be a 90's MIJ Squier, end of.
Yep no arguments here. The Silver Series had a very tight radius on the corner next to the E tuner - this one doesn't.
-
In the seventies Fender did produce rosewood board basses both with and without skunk stripes. They used the 03 neck code for instruments with maple boards and rosewood board necks with skunk stripe.
-
Not making any comment on what this bass is or isn't....but I thought that you only tended to get the skunk stripe with maple fingerboards, as it was necessary to cut a channel in the back of the neck to install the truss rod, whereas with rosewood, the fretboard would be lifted to install the rod. CB
It's not necessary to have a skunk stripe on a neck with a rosewood board but it standardises the manufacturing process when you're also making maple board versions.
A tribute thread to the 'Tribute Bands - are they degrading?' thread. One might imagine that the Wonderful World Of Music is neatly divided into Tribute, Covers and Originals acts. The reality is somewhat different, so here's my handy cut-out and keep guide to the 'Spectrum Of Shame' calculated in accordance with the Bilbo Scale of Musical Usefulness[sup]TM[/sup].
Genius. . Oh, and another one in the Genre Inspired category.
this is absolutely the ballsey valvey grindy pedal to have IMO, especially when you run it at 18v; then it kick ass even more with plenty more headroom. It works great for guitar too. the only thing that i've found that tops it on guitar is a Butler Tube Driver with the bias adjustment control http://www.butleraudio.com/ I haven't tried the Butler on bass yet tho.......I've gone AWOL from bass for a while and am playing 6 strings more than 4 these days.....sorry!
The Tube Driver is a great pedal but was never designed for use with a bass. I've not used the Tube Driver but do have a Real Tube and a Blue Tube rack. The RT does lose some bottom end, though that was never a problem for me as I've always gone for bags of low mids over much real bass. Used it for ages until... the rest of the band asked for more bass in my sound. By that point I'd picked up a Blue Tube rack, which was intended for bass. It was a better choice for me as it did the low drive thing much better - the RT could get pretty hairy as you turned up the drive. It has the bias control which is sadly lacking from the original pedals, and as you doubtless know it is a real killer of a feature as it changes the whole character of the distortion. Why no other manufacturers have done the same thing is beyond me, though I did mention it to Dave Hall and he said that BK Butler's implementation of it was very tricky to pull off. It's capable of lovely creamy, fat sounding overdrive and I've yet to hear a pedal that matches it (though I'm working on that ), but it's such a shame that the bias isn't available on the pedal version. the size of the thing is a huge pain in the ar*e. I don't even know how the BT pedal compares as I've never had the opportunity to try one, but I'm sure I'd miss the bias control. Last I looked schematics (of slightly dubious accuracy) were available for the pedal but not the rack, so even a pedal sized clone seems out of the question. No idea how much these things go for now, but they were always very thin on the ground, and I've got to say the Tube Driver with the bias seems horrendously priced. Perhaps that's just the price you have to pay for tone. Oh, just to say the anyone looking for low gain overdrive could do much worse than a BDDI or BDI-21. Especially at the price of the BDI-21.

The volute at the back of the headstock is a huge giveaway, as Fender necks don't look like that. And the seventies logo and lack of string through means even if it was a Fender it's wouldn't be a Hotrod.
-
Is it like one of these? Looking around the Spector website it seems that they only did a few single pickup models. It should be a decent enough bass, just in need of a setup.
-
It's not even Fender, nevermind a Hotrod.

A Heads Up If You're Looking At This Auction
Musky replied to Ashborygirl's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It seems his response has been edited to read "this is not the full story. Macko is a very angry ebayer. I will avoid him". Might be worth contacting ebay and asking them to remove it as it shows up under Ashborygirl's 'feedback left for others' tab. The fact that ebay have already issued him a warning and that his story is full of holes could make it easier for ebay to decide to remove the feedback. Maybe. -
No - I think the 750 still came in at under 300w.
Yeah. Weirdly the long term output of both the 450 and 750 is 236w RMS, even though the voltage swing and burst output on the 750 is greater than the 450.
I've already told them that I want an equal share in the song writing credits seeing as I helped write the songs and they are planning on releasing the album I helped record. But I wouldn't be suprised if they tried to screw me over about that as well.
I should keep an eye on PRS If I were you. It's not unknown for songs to be registered in someone's name without all the others who contributed to the process getting a credit. You can raise a dispute with PRS which will put any royalties on hold until the dispute is sorted out. Sorting out whether your contribution was significant is a whole different kettle of fish though.
I find it amusing in the Class D world that all the manufacturers have different claims as to the watts. They all use the same power section because Class D technology is patented and owned by B&O. If you open the amp up you will usually see the B&O ICE module in there separated from the rest.
Patents on Class D amps go back to the early fifties, and while I don't doubt that B&O have patents on their implementation of the design they certainly don't have a monopoly on making Class D power modules.
