Does everybody else use it? doesn't seem fair asking for a bigger cut from people who don't use the PA.
Seems fair enough when it comes to repairing/replacing it. All the band gets use of it, because you're not going to get gigs without one. Ideally the singer should own the PA, but it rarely seems to work out that way.

Just a thought, but where has the donate button gone?
-
Only just seen this thread. Having looked through the ads that are already up on the classifieds section, there doesn't seem to be any obvious place that states where the seller is located. Although there are plenty that don't bother to fill out the location field underneath their avatars, it's quite useful and saves everyone having to ask. So maybe a prominent field for location might be handy. I can see the benefits of the changes, but I do wonder if it will mark a change from the current 'forum with a place to sell gear' to a 'forum with a classifieds site running in tandem'. We'll see. I'm slightly appalled that donations after a sale as well. I had imagined that most people bunged a few quid into the pot after a successful sale. Edit: Oh, and it doesn't appear to offer any clues as to when the ad was posted either.

Same text as other ads from years ago. What's the odds you'll have to pay via some dubious transfer?
My Fender Mustang bass short scale which is older than 1977 has through body stringing, so did the fiesta red precision I bought in 1971 second hand now long gone, had it also.
Precisions from that period (i.e. the 70's) didn't have through stringing. The original single coil Precisions did have through stringing, so your fiesta red one would have been one of those or more likely it had been modified. Odd Fenders turn up from time to time, but I've never heard of a P Bass from back then leaving the factory with through stringing. Any info you can contribute is always welcome though.
-
Yeah, Fenders from that period had neither through body stringing nor tort pickguards, so the 'guard has been changed. Other than that it looks to be exactly what he says it is, although the pictures don't really show some of the details well enough to know if other parts might have been changed. I'd want to see pictures with the guard off as well, but alarm bells aren't ringing.

There's work being done on the site at the moment. No doubt it'll return to normal service soon

The Zoom B series pedals have a Super Bass sim on them, so maybe one of those will hit the spot? I've no idea how good the sims are but plenty of people on here have the pedals. The cabs play a big part of Lemmy's sound, so might be worth bearing that in mind.
If you want to try it, you'd have to come round my house and do so. Brand isn't a relevant reference point because it bears no relation to the substance of a bass. I was asked to suggest a bass of substance. And since I've been playing this one for many years, and continue to do so in favour of a great many others, I can say with absolute certainty, that it is an excellent instrument. The writing on the headstock is absolutely irrelevant to that. For the name thing if I'm asked to suggest a good guitar tech, I'll point someone at a specific guy, once I've established a few specifics, as opposed to going 'just go for any guy called Jones', because not all Jones' are the same person. I like my bass because when I choose to play bass, this is the bass I like to play. This one, not any other ones that are similarly configured.
Sorry Oli, but I've got to say I don't think that cuts it. It pretty much renders your post entirely pointless, especially as you don't attach a price point to the bass which plays 'as good as could possibly be for the price'. Which of course was the point of 4000's post. It also fail's to answer Cairobill's post which prompted your reply in the first place. As things stand you're just announcing "I've got a nice bass", which presumably you got for a good price. It doesn't really move things along much.

Replacing Speaker in Peavey Black Widow, Opinions??
Musky replied to LloydyG10's topic in Amps and Cabs
Before you discard or replace the BW, double check the tinsel leads that run from the connector panel on the speaker itself. They run into the yellow suspension support from the black panel and should be clearly visible. I say to check they're in good order as I've fixed many a dead or bad sounding BW simply by re-soldering broken or nearly snapped ones bringing many more years of faithful service from the drive unit. I'm not saying this a guaranteed fix but double check yours, it might be a simple (and in-expensive) repair.
+1. That the speaker had died altogether and has now spluttered its way back to life rather suggests an electrical fault. -
great bass players with terrible technique, are there any?
Musky replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I suppose you could probably argue the reverse also - ie. that many bass players have great technique but are boring.
True. Technique should be the means to an end, not the end in itself. -
I'd take the advice that it can't be reconed with a pinch of salt. But it may not even need a recone. Like Mr. Foxen suggests, lens cleaner tissue and PVA can be applied to both sides of any tears - even tiny ones can sound nasty. Also check the dust cap very carefully to check that it is properly stuck down. Off the top of my head, other things that can cause nasty rattles include loose battens, drivers or control panels loose, speaker leads touching the cone, debris between the basket and cone, and even anything that attached itself to the magnet. It's worth checking the panels to see if pressing on them reduces the problem as well.
Sorry, but i couldn't resist it! I saw the original of this at an art exhibition some years ago and you're right the original is a lot longer.
I saw it at the exhibition of audio art they had at the Haywards Gallery (I can't remember it's proper name). I think it was only about 15-20 minutes long, but it seemed a lot longer at the time.

It's at times like this I wish this site still had a wiki.
-
What's up with the original? Damaged cone or voice coil gone? Wembley Loudspeakers can repair pretty much anything that can go on a speaker, but if it's just buzzing because of damage to the cone you may be able to repair it yourself.

I've just bought a Polish Love from Si, and have had the same positive experience as everyone else. Kept me informed every step of the way, packaged it to withstand even the most inept of RM's workforce and it arrived in double quick time. Cheers Si!

Fair price really, but the £190 he paid for it with the Mark IV head is probably more in line with typical prices.
Interesting... what makes you say that?
No rivets on the shafts.

When exactly was this? I'm getting the impression it was quite a while ago. Is this Music Ground we're talking about here? It's well documented they were involved in some dubious practices.
I posted about these mid "relic thread" a couple of weeks back. The very nice chap from Classic and Cool rates them and they do look very tasty eh. I havn't been able to find anything else about them on the web tho'.
Yeah, I must have seen your post because I checked out that link a couple of weeks ago. It does look good but I did think that having a finish that had sunk into the grain on a new guitar didn't bode that well for the future. I could be wrong but I do wonder what it's going to look like after a bit of use? I don't know, perhaps it's possible to make a reliced guitar like that in such a way that it doesn't go from 'heavy relic' to 'knackered looking dog' within a year? I know not sealing a body before finishing will give it the look of an instrument that has far more years on it, but that finish doesn't look to be awfully durable.
Did you resolve the issue with your Ashdown? I've had a similar problem with a new ABM500 Evo III. I set it up with an ABM 1x15 cab in the house, played at low volume for 5 minutes when the sound cut out. Signal still getting through, VU meter moving etc. Tested the speaker and found it had blown. Relieved it was the speaker rather than amp, I sent it back for repair. Subsequently used amp with an Ampeg 2x10 classic (300w, 8ohm) at a gig. Half way through the 1st half the sound cut out again. Could continue as signal still going through DI and into pa. Tested speakers again and found they were blown. The shop has now taken the amp back for a "repair". On a side note, does anyone know where I stand legally if the amp I bought was faulty and has blown a cab I already owned? Cheers! Dave
Good question. This site suggests that you can make a claim against the manufacturer, but you might do better posting this as a separate thread in the General Bass Discussion forum. There are a few legal types about and others may have some experience of similar situations. If not, the CAB is your friend.

I must say, this must be the most impressive introduction to a forum I've ever seen. Well done for all the work Bruno, and welcome to the forum!
-
FWIW I have the BA500 head and it's working fine. Having said that, it was only bought so I could use it at the odd gig where I wanted to hang around for a drink or several afterwards. So it's only been used half a dozen times. I'm not sure anything about it's reliability can be gleaned from that.

Peaches and Hanging Around by the Stranglers. If you haven't already found it, StudyBass.com is quite a good learning resource which gently introduces the student to some theory and gives examples of songs to illustrate what you're learning.
