1. Bought a pedal from Jon and he had it in the next available post, delivered the next day boxed and bubble wrapped to within an inch of it's life! It's in excellent condition too, so he obviously takes as much care with his gear as he does with the packaging. Cheers Jon, it's been a pleasure.
2.
HI , I am very new here and only joined up today, thats quite a selection of basses between you two guys, I thouhgt I was mad having about 6 or 7 basses, in comparrision .the amp I use is amines a bit of a joke. what I have in my little collection is an Aria designed in the Aria laboratory Japan which is a 5string, a Precission cpy made by Antoria in 1962, Tokai Jazz (oldies but goldies) 1972 or 77 not quite sure of the year,Squire P bass Peavey Fretless 4 string (Foundation Series),and just recently bought my son a bass collection 5 string 1987.The amp I use is an Ampeg B 220 1x15 combo, and somtimes a Trace Elliot 4x10 cab with an Ashton (Australian )300 watt head..
You've got quite a tidy collection yourself. Welcome to the forum!
3.
or you can download the video and import it in Audacity, then you can slow it down without changing the pitch.
Does Audacity do video now then? I haven't upgraded for years. Edit: Ah I see, it can import the audio from video files.
4. I think this confusion about the frequency range of the BF 12" speakers comes from the fact Bill linked to the LF model, which Alex uses either crossed over to a separate mid range unit, or alone for the cabs which aren't intended for any output in the upper mids (like the Dubster). All the others use the HO model which has much more output in the mids.
5.
if the serial number starts with JV, it´s a JV... full stop. if it starts with E, it´s and E series SQ SQ series, etc etc. really...
Unless it's an SQ specced instrument which went out with one of the remaining JV plates.
6. I just followed a link on TB to an old bass (nothing like yours BTW) but noted the serial number was remarkably similar. Coincidence, or does that mean your Jack was built by Cort? https://www.demontguitars.com/Images/Cort%20Vintate%20Samick%20Bass/watermarked/index.html
7. You could always download the clip and load it into VLC to slow down the video. Problem is that it'll also change the pitch. If it were me I'd download the audio and load it into Best Practice.
8. I'm playing 60's garage type stuff, so there's not a lot of call for top end. Not to say these basses won't provide that, it's just that I've never tried. I've not tried drop tuning it either, but I doubt a 32" scale bass would take kindly to it - the shorter scale adds a touch more 'flap' to the strings as it is. An RSB or SB would probably be a better bet. Unless you fancy going for heavier guage strings?
9.
Thanks for the link, really like the look of the cardinal bass anyone know what they're like?
Like Stu I've got a CSB380 and also a 300, which has been my main gigging bass for the last 7 or so years. They play very nicely and the sound is very precision like, which you'd expect given the configuration. It actually sounds a bit 'gruntier' than my P's, which may well be down to the shorter 32" scale. It's something you should be aware of, as it probably won't do 'twang' in the same way as longer scale basses. (I hope these descriptions of the sound are helping, as it's quite difficult to describe the sound in text!) Not something I need as the treble and upper mids are turned down on my amp anyway. Pricewise they seem to have been climbing a bit recently, and I'd expect them to sell for £130 -£150 for the 300/380 - the higher designation doesn't seem to command any more on ebay. The 450 and deluxe models are very much rarer and can fetch a bit more (particularly the 450) when they show up.
10.
+1 for absolutely anything with a Westone/Matsumoku badge from that era.
For stuff that is widely available for good prices you can't go wrong with a bass made by Matsumoku, including the the Arias, Vox and Westones already flagged up here. http://www.matsumoku.org/models/models.html
11. I'm not sure that I've deliberately tried either method, but going for number 2 would make more sense to me. The first should come with practice and time anyway. Also learn your scales, as it makes learning songs much easier.
12. How is the pedal powered - via an AC lead or an adaptor? It could be that there's a fault on other equipment you're using rather than the pedal itself.
13. Cheers for posting when you did Lozz, as I'd forgotten this was on! Only missed the first 5 minutes.
14. PM'd as well.
15. Rockinbetters sold by dealers without a Tokai dealership. A fairly cursory search reveals that.
16. True, but neutral is tied to ground and the phase has a constantly varying voltage. In the UK on a single phase that's 230V to -230V.
17. So far all the evidence we have available suggests that the Rockinbetter brand is an importer brand, and operates in exactly the same way as other importer brands since at least the sixties. Importer A wants to make a copy guitar so they contact an overseas manufacturer to make them and name them *Brand A*. Importer B may contact the same manufacturer and ask for the same instrument to be branded *Brand B*. Same instrument, originating from the same factory, with different branding and different importers. There is no link between the brands other than that they have used the same manufacturing facilities. From time to time they may approach a completely different factory to make these instruments, so the specs/quality on construction may differ slightly. Other brands (which once had their instruments made in the same factory) may or may not also decide to have their instruments made at the same factory as their rival brands. So what we have here are at least three brands (Rockinbetter/Rebelrocker/Bass Collection) that have at one point used the same factory for their copies. Some of these are claiming a Tokai link, although the Bass Collection doesn't. As has been pointed out waaaay back in the thread, the Tokai that is importing the Rockinbetters into the UK has nothing to do with Tokai Japan other than it has the word 'Tokai' in its name. Other companies do as well, but they have nothing to do with Tokai Japan or even musical instruments either. There's absolutely nothing to suggest that there's any link to Tokai Japan, or indeed that they existed before the early 2000s.
18. Sounds like the International colours, but they didn't do a pink one. Morocco Red perhaps?
19.
I belive the first Rockinbetters were made by Tokai but then switched from Japan to China in the 80s its said that Tokai sent over some of there top staff to set up plants in China. I think it was around 1998 that Tokai and Rockinbetter parted company. they were still made in the Tokai factory for a while then moved to Korea and I think Cor-Tek make them. i think the new ones (22 fret) are still something to do with Cor-tek and could be made in the Cort factorys. they are imported into the UK from Korea. some not all have no serial numbers like the Gresch Cor-tek made guitars. i have been told the still make them )Rockinbetter) in China but think that is the older 20 fret ones. the newer 22 fret ones are make in korea and also have a double action truss rod. don't think that Tokai Ltd Uk have anything to do with Tokai Japan. I have read that the owner of Tokai uk has gone over to china in the past to see the building of Rockinbetters and has increased the import of them in the last few years.
Colour me sceptical. You may well be correct with any or all of that info, but it would take some hard evidence before I'd be convinced. At the moment there appears to be nothing concrete to link Tokai Japan to Rockinbetter whatsoever, and as it stands your info is peppered with enough caveats for me to remain dubious. If you do have any evidence I'd love to see it, as this topic has been brought up many times without anything definite to suggest the two companies are linked.
20. Sounds like your browser has been hijacked.
21.
ok going to a proper noob here, how does one test the mains sockets at a pub? Is there a "plug in" device that tells you its ok? would deffo get one if there was. Some of the dives we play have well dodgy power supplies.
They're sold as socket testers in DIY stores, but often called Martindale testers after the brand (like Hoover). Testing the socket for wiring faults is never a bad idea, but it still leaves you open to faults to the chassis of the amp. The amp needs to be checked over as well.
22.
Not sure if these are jap, but cheapish, sandwich boy, 6 bolt plate: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item337e7e2c7c
My first bass was one of those - a KB-24, made in Taiwan and very, very heavy.
23.
I'd rather have all the available power on tap myself so if I knew I only wanted one cab I'd hunt for a single cab solution.
You'd have the power on tap, but that only equates to an utterly meagre increase in volume. With 900w at 4 ohm the Mesa is going to be producing something like 600w at 8 ohms, so the difference in volume between the two is going to be about 1.8 dB. That's an absolutely tiny increase in volume that you'd struggle to notice at all in a live situation. Mr. Foxen is right - more speakers is the way to go if extra volume is needed.
24.
Gone and I had my eye on that!
And I thought it might last at least until he got up on Monday morning. I take it you made a note of his user name?
25. I messaged him to ask.
Squire body, with Jv bridge, older knobs, aged body and scratch plate, roadworn neck. Looks like the models listed, is a hybrid.
He bought a neck sold as a reliced MIJ last spring, so that might be on there. Then again, it might not.
