1. I wouldn't be surprised if the Behringer had no more power on tap than the Acoustic. AFAIR Behringer use magic pixie watts to describe the power output on their amps, so I'd imagine it's output RMS is about half of what Behringer claims.
2. The 550w stated on the back of the amp is the power consumption, not what the amp puts out to the speakers.
3.
Context is everything: JLS have been crowned Britain's hardest-working band in 2012 after headlining more major concerts than any other artists.

Eh, I just don't see the point in getting particularly riled up about this. Sure, it's stupid, but it's obviously not directed at anyone with a genuine interest in music, it's just yet another bit of PR-motivated industry self-congratulation.

PRS for Music should take the stick for compiling such a ridiculous list and JLS should be ashamed to receive such an 'award'.
+1 It's a bit of PR puffery on the part of PRS. Their press release begins "JLS have been re-crowned the most performed artists to headline at MAJOR VENUES for 2012 by PRS for Music." (their emphasis). All totally factual but as boring as hell, so they head the release with "hardest working band" to get the attention of journos in the sure knowledge it'll get people frothing at the mouth, thus generating more publicity. If it calms anyone down, rest assured there is no award, just a list. Surely we've all been around enough to know how this sort of thing works?
4. Another vote for either the BDI-21 or Bad Monkey. The DOD 250 is another to consider, though you'd be looking for something secondhand (or a clone). I think the Harley Bentons mentioned above are the same as the Joyo offerings, although their OD/DI doesn't seem to actually be a clone of the BDDI from what I understand.
5. That's a bit of a shame, as without it you'll never ID the brand it was originally sold under. Not that it makes too much difference really - it's a Matsumoku made bass, which is a good thing. Congratulations on the buy, and the price!
6. It's a Shaftesbury, made by Eko in Italy. Edit: Model 3266.
7. Can you make out the old logo on the headstock? It's certainly a Matsumoku made bass but Aria weren't the only ones to source their instruments from Mat.
8.
Cheers Musky. So say the 4x10 i buy is 800 watts @ 8ohms and the 1x15 is 400 watts @ 8ohms. Each cab will only be running at 225 watts? Am i right in thinking the two cabs will only be running at half their capacity?
Actually each cab might be running at it's limit, depending on how you you use it. Wattage isn't a good guide to how loud it'll go, or how well it will reproduce the bottom end. Most speakers won't do better than half their rated wattage (and very often considerably less) before they start to fart out on the low notes. Basically, the set up you're looking at will most likely have plenty of headroom. When you say each cab will 'only' get 225w I think you're underestimating how loud a stack like that can get, and quite honestly I wouldn't expect that you'd have to crank it up to anything like full volume. Don't get too hung up about the wattage, as it's not a terribly useful spec.
9. You won't blow your amp by using speakers rated with a higher wattage than your amp is capable of. The only thing you have to watch for in that department is the impedance of the speakers. Your amp has a minimum load of four ohms, so as long as you don't drop below that you'll be fine. In practical terms that means either two 8 ohm cabs or one 4 ohm cab.
10.
It's not the same one mate. This is the exact one i have here. http://www.bing.com/...E1F4450D7D572B1
Ah, my mistake. There's a link to a clearer image above the one you posted, which suggests it's 450w at 4 ohms. So around the 280w at 8 ohms. With a pair of cabs you'll be putting 225w into each of them.
11. 300w RMS at 8 ohms, 500w at 4 apparently. http://www.markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=82
12. Madisonsmusicstore on ebay sell what you are looking for and will age them to suit.
13.
Just out of curiosity, how will you know what percent is generated by the support band ?
As usual with these sort of things they simply ask people at the door who they've come to see. Barnet, who runs the night, is one of the good guys and doesn't turn over bands for a quick profit.
14. It's definitely a Fuji Gen bass, but there were very many brands that sourced their instruments from them. Without the name on the headstock it's impossible to tell what it originally sold as.
15. I don't ever recall seeing a book on how bsss tone has changed. It seems like the sort of thing that might be covered by magazine articals, though I can't remember one of those either. You might be better off tackling this laterally. Try picking up a book on the general history of the bass, like the one by Tony Bacon (and someone else - can't remember the name). There may be books on the history of general recording techniques, but if not there are certainly books that cover what bands like the Beatles did in the studio. It would mean a lot of reading and scanning for relevent sections though. A post somewhere like the Sound on Sound forum might throw up some relevent info in the recording dept. A word of warning though - try to avoid technological determinism.
16. Wavy tuners, staple bridge pickup and dual truss rods. Sounds very much like a Matsumoku made bass. Nice find. Edit: Just seen the Steel Adjustable Neck stamp - definitely Matsumoku. Which is interesting as I hadn't seen CMI associated with Mat before. It'll be a '76 or '77 - either the first or first two numbers denote the year.
17. Value really depends on condition and exactly which Squier it is. If it's early nineties it'll be a Silver Series. Got any pictures?
18. It's gone now. What was it?
19. Probably just a bit of housekeeping. A number of other threads marked 'sorted' around the same time have also been hidden.
20.
must have done - this is the manual I have... http://www.tech-soun...ma1000_engl.pdf
Right you are. Always nice to have the option of doubling your power if you ever decide to get a second cab though.
21.
I am not very big fan of 8´ speakers, It just sounds too thin to me even for quiet practicing, but it is just my taste.

I've got a HiWatt B 15.It's tiny and makes the bass louder, which is pretty much all you can expect from this class of combo.
This is my experience as well. Tiny practice amps are fine if you just want to hear yourself but inevitably they miss out on the low end. Mind you, it's the bass that tends to travel through a house so with your son in the next room perhaps a tiny combo would be just the ticket. The 20w Peavey Microbass used to be a standard recommendation here until it was discontinued a year of two ago, and seem to be selling for pocket money nowadays. I think they've been superseded by the 158 mentioned above.
22.
yeah, pretty sure it doesn't run down to 2 ohms
Oh, I just edited my previous post. The Tecamp website is saying it does run at 2 ohms, but I've no idea whether the specs have changed.
23. Are you sure you've got the impedances right? I thought the 1000 ran down to 2 ohms, so should give the full wattage bridged into 4 ohms. Edit: Specs here. 1000w at 4 ohms. Might be worth checking they haven't changed the specs at some point though.
24.
Must be my eyes then. More than anything looked like it had been hand painted in a couple of photos. Nothing I could put my finger on which is why I asked the question. Anyway, we have a Ricken&^(£$" pinned topic, there are often Ebay Fenders that come up for debate, I just thought it might be good to have a pinned Fender bit rather than loads of seperate threads. Quite a few of us like expert advice and comments.
I was looking at that a little earlier. I've got to admit my first thought was that it's a refin as it doesn't seem to have a high gloss finish. Apart from that and the details he mentions it's what I'd expect for a 1983 bass.
25. The one that sold on here was made in Japan, so it's likely to command a premium. Haven't checked the ebay listing, but if that one was made in Taiwan it might be nearer the mark. There's a few Yamaha fans on here, so doubtless somebody who keeps an eye on ebay will chip in. Going from one sale often isn't the best idea as you can't be sure it sold for more or less than is normal.
