how long should I wait before I start asking for moderator help?

Im with Luke and Shambo on this. I think if someone wants to turn a profit by flipping something bought on here they should at least have the decency to sell it elsewhere. Selling it on here is a bit like rubbing people's noses in it. I rather enjoyed it when this place felt like more of a community. -

Anyone remember the Fender CS that was sold on here several times, before finally being advertised for a far higher price? Caused something of stir at the time AFAIR. Opinions on the matter seem to have shifted in the intervening years. Edit: Although ebay wasn't involved in that instance. Not sure if that makes a difference? -
What do you guys reckon to this one then? http://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/brand-new-asking-alexandria-style-metalcore-band--t463399.html IMO the guy comes across as a complete dick - mostly CAPS and immediately goes for the ' I wanna be famous' thing. Seems very controlling too
I think the guy's just naive and has spent too long dreaming about his perfect band. Good luck to him, but I don't reckon he'll get too many takers.

I think if you prefer short scale instruments it's a bit of a no brainer, although plenty of people (read most people) use long scale instruments for the styles you mention. It's just a matter of personal preference. There are tonal differences in the scale lengths but it's still a matter of choice. You can find bassists that opt for short scales instruments in any genre. I think pickup placement is probably more important than pickup type. Something placed right up by the fret board is never going to sound punchy regardless of its type, so don't let the type put you off. Re the Bronco, I've not played one either, but like the good Dr says a lot of people here have had luck in pimping them. Just be aware that they were a budget bass and like all budget instruments likely to be quite variable. Try before you buy.
If I understand the paypal website correctly, then the fees work like this: 1. For buying goods etc, the seller pays fees of 3.4% + 20p 2. For sending personal payments, then if the money comes directly from a paypal balance, or from your bank account (ie not a credit/debit card), then there are no fees for anyone. If you pay by credit/debit card, then there are fees of 3.4% + 20p payable to paypal, but the sender chooses who pays the fee.
Ah, thanks for that. My account is linked to my card, so it looks like I've been sending the correct amount. -
I agree almost completely, except for the paypal gift bit. Paypal will just put their %s up to cover the costs of dishonest gifting. So we all pay in the end. If someone doesn't want to pay the paypal fees, they should supply their bank account details and use BACS. I refuse to use the gift option these days, although I have a couple of times in the past at the seller's request. Never again.
How does paypal work in this respect? If someone sends money as a gift either the sender or recipient has to pickup the fees - usually the sender, as I thought that was the point of requesting payment as a gift. So I not sure how this is dishonest or why paypal would need to up their fees to cover money sent this way? I thought the only difference was you get the option of who pays the fees, and of course no buyer protection. I've made payment as a purchase in the past, but checked the fees beforehand by looking at the fee for sending as a gift and then adding the amount on to the money I'm sending. Have I been short changing the seller or something??? -
Vox Clubman bass... maybe worth a couple of bob to Vox collectors now (if they're really that daft..?).
They're not worth much at all, so you're safe. That Continental on the other hand...

There's two little arms on the switch that the toggle makes contact with - perhaps one of those is slightly bent?

Looks like an early '76 that has been messed around with slightly. The decal placement is slightly off, but I've seen that on other Fenders from the period and is otherwise what you'd expect to see. Knobs, misplaced cover and tuners are right for the year, though the pickguard screws have been replaced. It'll be interesting to see what this goes for.

Yep, nice set up. Now all you need is one of these and some bungies, and you're ready for the tube!

I was reading a post on music think tank about a similar service just the other day. The stats made interesting reading, in as far as it proved a pretty pointless exercise and actually buried any useful data and potential fans amongst the fake hits. http://www.musicthinktank.com/blog/youtubes-dirty-little-secret.html Sadly I think that appearing 'pro' or more credible isn't something that can be acquired as easily as fake views on a youtube page. Going back a few years I think it was expected that bands went out of their way to collect Myspace fans, without anyone seriously thinking the band had a fraction of that number of real world fans - if any at all. The only benefit was to show promoters that a band they had never heard of had in fact put in some effort and might actually do the same for a gig.
Musky.... I was talking to the right people. I'm not a child.
Sorry, no offense intended.

I've no experience of these basses I'm afraid, but I wonder how they do the relicing - it's near identical. There must be a CNC machine for relicing now.
I got Facebook messages and MySpace messages from these shysters a couple of years ago.... I can't remember what they were calling themselves, then... but it's the same people and the same "deal". They couldn't answer my question when I asked "how much promoting do you actually do?" They seemed to consider monopolising all the venues was "promotion". I went to The Water Rats (Kings Cross, formerly The Pindar Of Wakefield) to face them out over it but they pretended they'd only been hired by the "promoter" to do the door and didn't know much about the business arrangement. I spoke to some of the bands. Nobody made any money that night. All considered that the cost of getting to the gig, time off work, time spent trying to drum up a crowd... was the same as paying to play. I believe these "promotors" no longer "promote" at The Water Rats. I despise these s*** - c***s with a hatred.
The thing with Water Rats was there were many promoters using the place, so the situation there could have been quite confusing - you might well have been talking to someone who really didn't know what was going on. Having said that the main house promoters were Monto, and they managed to earn themselves quite a reputation doing pay to play (so different to the situation described above). Symptomatic have now taken over the bookings at Water Rats. They're apparently keen on hiring out the venue much more, so there will be an even greater variety of promoters using the place now. No doubt some will be good, some bad.

FWIW the Bass Machines were designed with guitar in mind as well. A guitarist I used to play with loved the sound of it through a 4x12 and swore he was going to get one. Obviously won't be everyone's cup of tea though.

There's a couple of internal fuses mounted on the PCB. Clearly visible in the top picture.
Hi guys, what would you recommend to recover a 4x10 with? Dunno what make it is, but it's damn big and heavy, covered in a horrible dark green plastic. Always used to get called the Aligator, but dunno if thats the make or what?
There used to be a British brand called Alligator in the late seventies/early eighties, and they were covered in green tolex. Sounds like you might have one of those.
That's not an Ashdown. Where's the VU metre? Actually, kinda like the look of it. I'm guessing 240W @ 8 ohm, 360W @ 4 ohm? I wonder if the 'Student' tag is going to be reflected in the price?
I'd imagine that's 240w at 4 ohms. 'Music power' is usually the sort of Mickey Mouse designation spirited up by marketing departments to make things sound more impressive.

It's changed alright - it no longer displays properly! Look carefully and you can still see Basschat displayed.
Please excuse my ignorance and feel free to educate me, but, I see a lot of money changing hands for second hand TE cabs but was always led to believe they were only celestion speakers in them! Is this the usual case of paying for the badge on the front?
I'm not sure where you're looking but I thought one of the attractions of used TE kit was the bargain prices they could be picked up for. The other thought that occurred was that Celestion is one of the leading designers and manufacturers of drive units and make some very capable speakers (although of course they don't usually make their way into commercial bass cabs, along with high end speakers from other manufacturers). I not sure that it's a secret that brand names can command a premium, but the upside for the consumer is that used prices will also hold up. Unless of course the brand falls out of fashion, in which case it's bargain time for buyers of used gear.
Oh if I could afford and Ampeg. Would love one one day but for the moment I'm more than happy with my Trace.
You shouldn't rule out a Sansamp BDDI for an Ampeg type sound, or the VT Bass for the addition of a useful mid control. The Behringer BDI21 is a clone of the BDDI that many people on here use (including myself) that as has already been pointed out is dirt cheap. Reliability of these doesn't seem to be an issue. There's a thread on talkbass somewhere with soundclips comparing the BDDI and BDI21. Very few people could correctly identify the pedals from the clips.

My thoughts would be that you aren't in need of an effect for this. It would be better to develop bass lines that support the song and fill any holes your guitarist can't cover (if indeed the holes need filling - sometimes less is more).
You know that as soon as one gets posted in here it will be removed from eBay in a matter of hours right? I believe the Rickenwaffen patrol this post pretty regularly now...
It's gone already! Westminster was a US brand if I remember correctly, so they're not likely to be that common this side of the pond. I'd have to trawl the thread to see if Jon knew which factory it originated from though. For what it's worth some of the auctions posted here do make it to completion, although obviously this thread isn't as busy as it used to be. RIC seem to do a fair job of patrolling ebay on their own, but the zealots on the Rick forums aren't slow to flag up auctions either.
