There's no chance of damaging a 1x15 just because it's used with a 4x10. If you like the sound the Ashdown 115 and 410 make when used together it's job done.
Wow, this has to be the most BS I've seen on an ad. Would be worth getting just for the left-handed gig bag..... http://www.gumtree.c...-bass/111774954
He doesn't know what it is, but knows it's a collectors item. How does that work exactly??? -
Small is beautiful ohms selector on small bass cabinet
Musky replied to ceilidhswinger's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yeah, it'll have to be on to get any boost, but you'll want something that can leave the effect turned down to zero. Anything that will give you more gain will do the job, so a booster like the MXR micro amp or any of it's many clones would be good. Or a distortion that you can turn the drive down to zero or a minimal level. An EQ pedal might be a good choice (you could leave it flat and just boost the level). Behringer BDI21 might be a good as well. They're dirt cheap, useful to have as a DI and have a wet/dry blend. I'm not sure if you'd still get a signal boost with it used totally dry though - I'll give it a punt and let you know. Edit: Just checked with a BDI21 into the instrument input of an amp (not a Little Giant) and with the drive fully off and completely dry there is still a small but very noticeable increase in volume. Obviously more gain is available by turning up both controls. -

From what I understand the Little Giants have a rather low output from the preamp - it's often commented that they sound a bit quite for the stated wattage. Apparently putting a booster in the effects loop improves things no end. Any pedal which can lift the output will do the job, providing that you like the sound with it engaged of course. -
Another one for the pot, as reported here. S748741

Looks like a very tidy repair. Great result! -
If the speaker still works, put a pp3 across the terminals to test it first, then perhaps a bit of sealing wax or something similar might just repair it, if not you could try here, http://www.audioloud.../boultons.shtml as an other option.
Good idea. If the coil is fine you can use small patches of lens cleaning tissue glued with PVA to both sides of the holes to effect a repair, though if the hole are that small they probably won't make any difference. -
Hopefully he'll get no bids on his new ad. Then you can offer £550 tops for it.

You don't say what is wrong with the original Celestion. Chances are it can be re-coned or the coil rewound by Wembley Loudspeakers. -
Never tried an ally one but the early T-40s had Zinc nuts if I remember right and mine's still going strong 32 years on. As for sound differences it's very hard to say without comparing the exact same bass with the different nut materials.
I seem to remember that the bridges were made of Zamak (a zinc alloy) so I'd guess the nuts were the same. Gibson uses the same material for their tailpieces and bridges. I might have just plumbed new depths in bass related nerdyness.

No, VAT is payable on all liable goods by VAT registered businesses. Perhaps you're getting confused because much s/h gear is bought privately and so has no VAT invoice - i.e. no input VAT. VAT is still payable on the profit though. Perhaps Bass Direct haven't reached the VAT threshold and so aren't registered?

The only benefit to moving the port to the front would be if you can't move your cab a few inches from a wall. Otherwise it'll make no difference to the sound. Unless of course you happen to like the look of ports on the front.

If you've got a Mac you can use hardware playthrough. If not, the latency with software playthrough will depend on your computer. Worst case scenario is the recording will glitch, but if it comes out ok you can fix any latency by zooming in and using the time shift tool.

Just a quick point regarding the horseshoe pickups and the covers being unremovable. I have a 67/68 4001s without a cover - about one or two years ago I discovered it was in fact a horseshoe pickup, sans cover. I've no idea why it works, but it does. Louder than the toaster and nice and punchy. If anyone is really interested in nailing the details of Rick basses they could do worse than having a read through the articles linked to here.

If you go to preferences and audio I/O, you should see a box marked 'play other tracks while recording new one'. It does exactly what it says. You're better off monitoring your playing through the pod - you can use software playthrough but you're likely to get some latancy. Edit: I'm still using a version that's donkey's years old, and a Mac to boot(!) so the wording and location maybe different on newer PC versions, but doubtless they shouldn't be too hard to find.
Do you think it's possible to expand your musical imagination in a way that would satisfy you? Do you think you are motivated to? Are you happy the way you play?
Actually, the real problem for my musical creativity is that I've spent the last 8 years playing 60's style garage. It's not exactly demanding and can be rather formulaic, but I rather enjoy it. So perhaps I am lacking in the motivation department. I'm happy enough pounding out root notes with the odd chromatic run thrown in to remind the guitarist I'm there, but sometimes I can't help but wonder if there's more to life than raw, primitive, basic rock'n'roll? Naaaah....

I can play precisely what I imagine, but my problem is that I have a severely limited imagination.

It's our old German friend again. What the hell is that thing? I refuse to believe it is, or ever has been, a bass.
do you not think that the potential increase on a good preEB over the next 20 years might be more than an already high price in a satuated pre CBS Fender market? If it were me, unless I found a bargin, I would buy several basses likely to increase rather than one already high one.
+1 There's a lot of talk in this thread underpinned by an apparent belief that vintage instruments will always climb in value. Perhaps they will, but maybe they won't - who knows? What we do know is that there have been big changes going on in the music industry, not least that bands are no longer the only game in town. The dance side of things has already taken off big time time, with nary a 'real' instrument in sight, something that is likely to become even more common in the future if the current drought of recorded music sakes continues. There are real economic benefits if you can record the bulk of your tracks in the bedroom rather than paying big bucks for a band recording in a quality studio. So we'll most likely see a bigger market for music which has no need for basses and a commensurate drop in the numbers wanting to buy them. All of which is probably quite a long term view, and at 50 one I might not be around to see come to pass. If we're talking about purely investment here you'll probably do better looking elsewhere, certainly away from instruments that already fetch very high prices. If you're set on buying a bass it's the future classics I'd be looking at. G&L?

Musky replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
At 21 seconds before the end of the auction, it's unlikely he was using a snipe tool. More likely he just left it to the last minute before hitting the bid button. -
Like JTUK says, it's most likely the amp failing, but if you haven't already done so change your instrument cable to eliminate that as a cause. It can be worth cleaning your input sockets as well, as dirty sockets can cause the symptoms you describe.
thats what im thinking but just wondered if anyone had the balls to try it?
If the minimum load is quoted at 4 ohms, it's not balls that would cause anyone to try a lower load. -
It depends on how drunk they are
I once had a guy come up to me after a gig and ask me what I thought of my band, before telling me he'd known the band for years and could get me into any of their gigs. He was very drunk.
