1.
Looks like a fairly standard colour scheme for a late 70s/early 80s instrument. Brass for the bridge and nut was a common feature. The only thing that surprises me is that the rest of the metal hardware isn't gold-plated; it's a fairly high-end instrument of that time and the Japanese have a thing for gold hardware on expensive basses.
I've got to agree about the tuners being chrome plated, though if it were mine I wouldn't be bothered as I'm not a fan of gold plating anyway. The black knobs and pickups are fine and match the darker grain. I'd definitely leave it as it is, though swapping the tuners for gold gotohs would work - as long as they're the same type.
 2. I didn't realise that Hondo was just a brand either! I'm rubbish at all the ins and outs of this Japcrap lark.
 3.
Or MIK, as certain of the Japanese factories had satellite facilities in South Korea, and vice versa.
I never knew that. Though obviously there were various brands, like Hondo, which although usually made in Korea did produce a few models in Japan. So would the satellite facilities be producing otherwise identical models, presumably apart from any MIJ markings? And which factories are known to have done this?
 4.
I would think anybody wanting to take part in this would need to be a pretty good player, and also be able to sight read very well.
You'd think so, but it's not really the case. A mate played at the one they did at the Roundhouse a few years back. He's very much into experimental playing and his style reflects that, but he's not much of a reader and admitted to getting a bit lost at times during the gig. Being a tight rhythm player and being able to handle complex rhythms are far more important for this if his experience was anything to go by. Oh, and it was a great gig BTW. Edit: Actually that was a Glenn Branca gig. So perhaps not the same thing at all!
 5. A link in the thread Silddx highlighted has a bit more info on Shaftesbury from Jon, who was a mine of information on Rickenfakers. Yours has the brass hex nut mentioned in the thread, so if it also has a sandwich body there's a good chance it came from the same factory as the Shaftesbury's. So at least you'll know it's MIJ, even if the the brand name and factory are likely to remain a mystery.
 6.
I win!
Bugger - I thought I'd got there first!
 7. I'll be first then - a Zoom H2.
 8. Wembley Loudspeakers may be able to help you out with fitting a replacement magnet as well.
 9.
Much like my missus when she gets home ,it's been stripped down and filled.
This made me laugh. Lots.
 10. 4x12's were pretty standard cabs with valve amps in the seventies, with some people going for 2x15's. Aside from the barefaced 2x15's, you'll be hard pushed to find cabs like that which weigh in at under 22kg.
Ibanez Cs-9 Chorus.
I think the Chorus there is it's precursor, the 505. The other ones an Ibby PQ9.
 12.
One of the songs is getting played on BBC Radio Wales after ten tonight if anyone listens to that
I did try to take a listen to your stuff but couldn't get it to play. I'll have another crack later.
 13. There have been quite a few threads on blown speakers, so it's probably worth a search in the Amps and Cabs forum as well as this one. A few things to look for: Anything touching the cone (including anything hidden in the corners of the basket), dressing of the speaker leads (including the small ones between terminal and voice coil), things stuck to the magnet, loose speaker bolts/ battens/ handles, rips and tears to the cone (these can the repaired) and a dust cap that is coming unstuck (ditto). And probably a few other things that I can't think of right now. It might be worth gently pressing in the cone to check if it moves freely with no grating noises as well - if it doesn't it's new speaker time.
 14.
All loads of help! I'd have no idea otherwise what I (might) be going to. Money is dependent on ticket sales - we're pretty much going on our own, so was just going to chalk it down for a bit of exposure and a chance to play in the capital.....
I've no idea what's going on with the place nowadays, but during what must have been it's last days as the Archway Tavern it had a bit of a name for pay to play. Maybe that's not the case now but it did rather trash the venues reputation - not that it had a particularly great one anyway. Quite honestly you could do better. I don't know what kind of music you're doing, but you'd be better off with a venue that's more on the beaten track. Very few venues for originals bands in London can guarantee any audience whatsoever, but you'll up your chances of passing trade by being were the punters are. The 12 Bar Club does both in house promotions and has outside promotors for some nights. If your music fits you'd be better off there - quite a few BCers have played there before.
 15.
I'm old enough to remember a time when Fenders were considered square and boring - now everybody just have to been seen playing a Fender or Fender styled bass! Fashions come and go, if you follow them you will always be changing your instruments (like me lol!).
There seems to be quite a few who still think Fenders are square and boring! I guess it's because they're so unbiquitous, so there will always be some who want something a little (or a lot) different. Precisions with flats certainly seem to be having something of a resugence at the moment though.
 16. Or go for the cheaper option and pickup a BDI-21.
 17.
Excellent, thanks! I think I might try a few different ones out first, though the price point on that Eden is very tempting just to get something of decent quality. I also saw on the LM250 page on markbass.it that it requires a 'minimum' of 4 ohms impedance. Does that mean between 4 and 0? Or 4 and upwards? i.e. could I use an 8 ohm cab with the LM250?
Yep, 4 ohms and upwards. So you'll be fine with an 8 ohm cab.
 18.
For the sake of clarity and defrazzling your brain... Two 16Ω speaker cabinets will give you an 8Ω load. An 8Ω and a 16Ω speaker cabinet will give you a 5Ω load. Two 8Ω speaker cabinets will give you a 4Ω load. A 4Ω and a 16Ω speaker cabinet will give you a 3.2Ω load. An 8Ω and a 4Ω speaker cabinet will give you a 2.6Ω load. If your amplifier states that it expects an 8Ω load then going below 8Ω is almost definately going to damage the amp. If you're unsure what your amp can handle then tell us what it is and we'll see if we can give you a definitive answer.
If it's the amp he posted about recently then it's a Marshall valve amp. It which case going above the stated impedance (or using it without an speaker connected) will fry it.
 19.
I wouldn't mind seeing the original ad for The Spice Girls ...
20.
Doesn't that breach employment law on the grounds of being a) sexist and ageist? Just saying... Of course, I'm a bloke in my 30s who's about 8lb too heavy, with nay titties at all, so it might just be me being a bit grumpy.
There are exemptions if it's considered essential for the job. Being a girl is fairly important requirement for a girl band.
 21.
Fees and sales taxes. Ebay's and PayPal's fees are capped and taxes at standard rate.
I think someone posted on here recently that Ebay had removed their cap. Could still be cheaper than an auction though.
 22.
And of course, whilst I remember... This chap!
I think Spoombung is looking for a modular setup, i.e. one with the woofers and mids in separate cabs. Shouldn't be too hard to modify the Fearful 12+6 plans and add a headcase though.
 23.
No, she didn't.....that was Jamerson.
