Not a comment on the whole tonewood thing, but I found the interviewer's habit of routinely commenting "Correct" to Michael Tobias incredibly irritating, and I'm surprised he was prepared to put up with it. If someone of that status tells me something, I don't reply "Correct" like I'm telling him he got the answer right!
Now that's something we an agree on! Anyway, I thought the tone was all in the fingers?
Same here. I discovered the Hannah Montana guitar we have for the kids has the proper dimensions to accept a full size tele neck It sounds fairly decent as it is too. Would love to take it out for a gig for shits and giggles. As for the daisy rock I'm pretty sure someone on the forum has or had one and reckoned it was pretty good for the coinage.
Jean Luc Pickguard bought a stardust for his daughter I believe. AFAIK he thought it was a nice bass.

You Can't Always Get What You Want by the Stones?
-
Your songs are automatically copyright as soon as you record or transcribe them. The trick is proving the date you created it. Posting a registered/recorded copy to your self in a sealed envelope or depositing it with a bank/lawyer used to be a common way of doing it, but it's not infallible. Quite honestly releasing the songs and asserting your rights over them are the best way of going about it, though if your making up your own CDR's you don't get the same kind of paper trail you would if getting them pressed. Perhaps loading them up to a hosting site which date stamps them might do the trick? I'm really not up on these matters in the digital age, but ultimately it's up to a court to examine any evidence in the event of a dispute.
-
It's PRS-MCPS you need to contact, specifically the MCPS side of things. Doesn't matter whether it's for sale or not, it needs to be cleared. I seem to remember someone on here got into a bit of bother a few years ago by hosting covers on their website. Cost will depend on how many you're pressing up, though you can always take the risk of not clearing them if they're CDR's. It's down to you to consider if that risk is worth it.
Might be better checking on Tech21's website and asking them.
Oops! Yeah, it's Tech 21 isn't it, not TC.
-
According to TC's website it is capable of handling different AC voltages, with the note 'AC power cannot be switched. See authorized dealer/distributor for voltage modification information.' It sounds rather like it can be modified internally to accept UK voltage, but you'd need to check that with TC. Not sure how customs might react if they twig it doesn't meet EU standards though.
^Thanks, at the moment its just day 1 but having real problems stretching my fingers out from fret 1-3 already. I thought the smaller fretboard would alleviate that issue but after a 2 hours practising my hand kills now. Still going to stick to finger walking but the sounds from the sounds aren't the warm low sound you expect from a bass, instead it sounds choppy and lots of buzzzz.
Yeah, the stretch at the bottom end of the neck can be a bit of a killer when you first start playing but it does get easier. As do the aching forearms - take a break when that starts to happen. Are you practicing through computer monitors? I really doesn't take much to make many of them crap out by playing a bass through them as they're not really designed with that in mind, The usual advice applies when your speakers are complaining - turn down the bass eq or volume, or both.
...and despite choosing woods for a specific tone, any luthier worth their salt will tell you that you'll never know how an instrument is going to sound until it's strung up and played.
Very true. I've played Precisions that on paper are identical but sound very different.

I bought a Zoom H2 from James and he was a pleasure to deal with. Not only did he package it well and get it posted straightaway, he threw in an extra 4Gb of memory! Absolutely a top guy. Thanks James.
I'm guessing that when they were sold on to a distributer (Pretty much the same with chinese bass's now) they left the factory without identifying marks so the distributer could apply their own serial number(if required) and logo. Some were just removed in the days before people realised how good they were. I read a piece about US customs seizing containers full of unbranded Japcrap's during the lawsuit era. Guess we'll never know. Determined to find out though. The hardware and quality is quite high so I am guessing they're from the Matsumoku factory.
It's definitely not a Mat as they had 3 piece quarter sawn necks. Although the MIJ stamp on the neckplate is used on pre-'75 FujiGen (the makers for Ibanez and others) they were less accurate copies - tele style single coils were common. I can't remember seeing the wheel of fortune on a FujiGen, especially on a more accurate copy like yours. Where's Jon when you need him! -
Lets not split hairs here. If someone compliments you on your clothes or your car, they are complimenting your taste and your ability to choose well. The fact you dont dress well is neither here nor there. I just picked these examples to make a point. As I said, a compliment is a compliment.
Really, it's not. Compliments are given for different reasons, and are often culturally dependent. On top of that men and women give compliments for different reasons, and they also depend on who they're giving compliments to. What people are complimented on, and by whom, as well as the underlying purpose of the compliment, varies hugely. As to why someone from this country might respond with anything other than 'thanks' - well, it's not very 'British' to blow your own trumpet is it. But yes, "thanks" is the best reply.

Ditto that. They pop up all the time for far less than your budget. Cheap, reliable and sound decent.

What Guitar Should I Buy for this Budget?
I think I like the look and prestige of PRS more than the sound, which has never really impressed me that much. Plus, the standard wraparound bridge is just daft if you think about the lack of adjustability. Humbuckers are a little compressed sounding to me, I'm moving towards single coils and P90's these days. I'd have thought a USA Fender will hold it's value more than a cutom made guitar. There's a bunch of Telebration guitars celebrating the designs birthday, I'd have thought they'd be good players and a decent investment. http://www.musicrada...asters-359163/1 Personally, I'm moving gear around to fund a Gordon Smith. Specced to taste, a GS2.0 with 2 P90's and a tunamatic bridge will set you back £700. That's if you can stomach the 12-14 week wait time.
I was about to suggest a Gordon Smith, though I was thinking of a Graduate. You can pick them up stock, but whether you'd find one with the specs you'd like is another matter. -
More searching... looking at the Tuners its pointing towards the factory that made Washburns and Aria's - possibly Matsumoko?
The tuners won't tell you very much on their own unfortunately. There were a lot of generic parts used on japcrap and they turn up on the instruments of many different factories. Matsumoku used the same tuners on some models as were used on UK made Shergolds, for instance. -
It's a gamble just like any other promotion. You could easily spend (more than) the same amount on T-Shirts or CDs for example and be left with 100s of unsold items. For originals bands who aren't being fronted money from an outside source (record company etc.) playing live is probably more about promotion is as it is about doing a job and getting paid for it. For the right band in the right location £300 (plus transport costs, minus ticket and merchandise sales) could be a good deal to support a known band at a decent venue. It's all about getting the right deal. Most pay to play is worthless, however some of it might not be. It's up to the individual bands to decide based on the circumstances.
+1 Buying on to the tours of bands with a decent sized following is commonplace, and should be regarded as a marketing expense. It should also be appraised as such and evaluated against what you want to achieve, value for money and the alternatives for your spend. Unfortunately, if the Alabama 3 gig is the one I'm thinking of it does fit neatly into the P2P pigeonhole and they do the same thing with various DJ sets by musicians of variable popularity.
The amount of screen real estate taken up by someone quoting a post they like and putting 'Like' or '^^^ This' or 'Spot on mate', especially if they have a big sig like yours, makes reading long threads a bit tiresome sometimes. I liked the LIKE button. I thought it was an efficient way of nodding assent, like Wot is saying.
The problem as I see it is that 'nodding' on it's own isn't actually very communicative - it's most often followed up with a comment in the real world. Can you imagine an interview where the interviewee just sat there nodding? A Like button is more akin to voting, especially as a running tally is kept. IMHO it just ends up being a popularity contest.

Your substation 18 is a sub - I wouldn't have thought it should be producing any top end. It can handle way more than your amp is capable of knocking out, so if it's 'farting out' with some unwanted high end noises it suggests that there's something wrong with it. It may well be worth your while to check for any damage to the cone, loose dust cap, check that the cables aren't fouling the back of the cone (or anything else that may have lodged between the cone and basket) and look for any small metal objects that have attached themselves to the magnet. It's worth checking for loose battens or control plates as well, and while you're at it tighten the bolts for the speaker.
