1.
IIRC, the Precision first appeared in 51, then what you could call the 'Sting' version (two-colour sunburst with white guard) was from late 54 to mid-57, the 'new' version with humbucking split pickup, revised pickguard and headstock shape was from mid-57. Rosewood boards appeared in 1959 and tort guards around 1960. All these dates are fluid - being Fender there were aberrations and exceptions aplenty depending on availability of parts, etc. You are correct. In 58 you could get a 3TSB with gold guard and one-piece maple neck and in 59 a 3TSB with gold guard and rosewood board - which was only available for one year, hence its rarity. 3TSB, tort guard and rosewood board appeared in 1960. All approximate, of course - Fender transitions are notoriously hard to date with 100% accuracy.
So does that mean by definition the MiM Roadworn is a sort of 57 re-issue or did 2TSB persist beyond the introductory year (and apologies to the OP for hijacking!)?
2.
Anyone know the difference between the 57 and the 58?
Sticking my neck out here but...was 3TSB introduced for 58?
3. Lovely looking bass - nice one!
4.
Always loved John McGeoghs playing in the Banshees and I'm pretty certain it was the solo from Shot by both sides that grabbed peoples attention. https://youtu.be/TCULiAKoDcM
This^^. Also, that Barry Adamson bassline is rather cool.
5. I've quite liked the red and green versions - but this is stunning! GLWTS
6. Working my way - slowly and in random order - through the XTC back catalogue. Oranges and Lemons currently.
7. Nice story Mick - enjoy the reunion!
8. Just wow! If that sounds half as good as it looks, it'll be awesome.
9. Looks like some B&CH (Bach) stock here (not affiliated) http://www.instrumentsonline.nl/Webwinkel-Category-1131110/Thunderbird-Fenderbird.html
10. Congratulations!
11. We've just started doing "Keep on Growing" by Derek and the Dominoes - though my younger amigos know the Tedeschi Trucks version better. Great song, nice bass line too!
12. Nice score there! I remember gigging mine for the first time, it sounded suitably seismic and band mates looking round mouthing "what the bloody hell are you doing?" Enjoy!
13.
Just returned from my lovely new Thunderbird - my first - and I tried it in a strap as soon as I got through the door. It just hung there, no head dive, and I had deliberately chosen to use a plastic backed Fender strap, to minimum friction to hold it up. The bass also happens to look and sound amazing, can't believe I've waited so long to get my hands on one, but glad I didn't wit any longer! The T Bird will be gigged tonight!
So which one did you get Dave?
14. We have considered adding Mustang to our repertoire. Got to give the public what they want
15. Wow, that looks beautiful!
16. As others have said, their earlier blues based stuff is great and Full House is one of my favourite live albums. Like BRX says, they helped keep things exciting before punk. RIP JG
17. Have to do that "must resist" thing every time I see one of your ads Tom.
18. I'm puzzled. I understood that to make a stance like Gibson's stick, they had to have made efforts to protect their trademark headstock/body shape or whatever (hence the approach Ric have taken). Various manufacturers have been making eg Les Paul copies for decades.
19. Great call - love the O'Jays. Trouble is, I'm supposed to be working, not grooving
20. Hey, thanks for bumping. Just added a couple to a great list!
21. Rattlesnakes - Tori Amos (no disrespect to the original) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FWoJS_VTPI
22. Too shy - Kajagoogoo. Quelle fromage!
23. Very sad news - condolences. Winos, Rhinos and Lunatics was a favourite.
24. Tina Weymouth, Phil Lynott and Paul Gray (Eddie and the Hot Rods phase) for me.
25. Any larger estate should be fine. I've just run a Mondeo for 5 years, Passat, Octavia, Superb all quite acceptable with good reliability records and cheap to buy and run (except maybe the Passat). Larger estate rather than lifestyle - BMW 3 series, Insignia and A4 all look a bit pokey in the back to me, though all good cars in their way. I'm now running a V70 which is great for lugging and, equally important, has lovely seats
