1. Have you got a light Mac? No, but I've got a dark brown overcoat
2. Nice story - my first bass suffered from the same bits falling off affliction! Happy Anniversary!
3. Has anyone given any of these a listen? I know they've "done" the two original New York Dolls albums, a good deal of the Blue Oyster Cult and Wishbone Ash output and some of the Quicksilver Messenger Service stuff. But is it worth the price of admission? I'm still reeling (not in a good way) from Iggy's "breathing" on Search and Destroy .
4. Having clearly been living under a rock for some time, I've not seen these guys before. What a great show! Made me feel optimistic, excited, a bit nostalgic...sort of Feelgoods meets J Geils in their RnB days. Great stuff!!
5. I like that, lovely feel. Sounds good through my ropey in ear phones at work!
6. Nice score Paul, that black looks very cool . I guess the only visual clue on the increased body size is the distance from the bridge to the body edge.
7. +1 to pretty much all of the above, but my favourite was probably Weekend World (Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2dpq4sExgs
8.
Its not just weddings though surely. apparently Light My Fire, and Arthur Browns Fire are popular at Cremations. Not many funerals have bands though. Anybody played a funeral ?
I've heard of "Another one bites the dust" being played over the PA at a biker's funeral. Must be true, the vicar told me.
9. A Bass VI, a Limelight P, an NR Thunderbird...
10. With the Precision, volume on max and tone between 75%ish and 100%. With the Tbird, for the "classic Tbird sound", neck on 10, bridge on about 8 and tone on 10. If I want to kid myself that it sounds a bit like a Jazz, I'll reverse the volume settings but lose a bit of volume in the process.
11. Thanks AT, hadn't twigged the scale length. I'd seen the one on Ebay which talks about being based on the Pawn Shop Bass VI... 12. Has anybody tried the Revelation RJT 60 B - the Bass VI alike. Looks nice, decent price too, well below the latest Squier price! http://thebassgallery.com/bass/rjt-60-b-bass.html
13. This is at Bishopthorpe Road York. We're playing on the back of a wagon at the street party to celebrate the TDY finishing stage 2 in York. Should be a hoot, but I'll need some fingerless gloves!
14.
All finished and should be with me next week. The brief was a replica of Phil's iconic maple boarded CSB era Precision, but worn to emulate how it would look today had Phil still been alive and playing - I don't think it's turned out so badly. A few others here https://www.icloud.c...#AC55Z2WMG9WQrP
Rik, that looks fantastic! As others have noted, if Philip saw that, he would approve!
15. Great story - and a fab looking bass. I'd quite fancy an old P...
16. Just bought a Dimarzio P pick up from Jose. Friendly bloke with very good communications, prompt posting and bullet proof packaging. Recommended!!
17.
Under-rated bass players in humungous bands and who rarely get mentioned on BC possibly because they're a bit unfashionable or because they eschew fretboard acrobatics, preferring instead to 'play for the song': Mike Rutherford Bill Wyman Noel Redding John McVie Dusty Hill Garry Tallent (E Street Band) Joe Bouchard (BOC) Tina Weymouth Colin Greenwood Under-rated, older British bass players of whom we rarely speak: Tony Levin Sparko (Feelgoods) Johnny Spence (Pirates, Johnny Kidd) Gerry McAvoy (Gallagher / NBZ) Henry Cluney (SLF) Tony Goggle (Wayne Fontana, Mungo Jerry, Foghat, Yngve Malmsteen, Quartet of Doom) Ronnie Lane (Faces) John Wetton (Family, Crimson, Roxy, Heep, Wishbone Ash) Johnny Gustafson (Big Three, Roxy) Barry Adamson (Magazine, Visage, The Birthday Party, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) Jah Wobble And Rocco Prestia.
Blimey, what a great list! Special nods to Johnny Spence and Sparko.
