1. G4M is miles better now they have a decent retail outlet masses of stock to drool over - and there are some good guys working there. MOR have some interesting basses in there S/H from time to time - Phil had an Ibanez Roadstar II and a Shergold Marathon in before Christmas, but don't know if they got inundated... .He's working online at the mo and I think doing the shop up. Banks have a decent selection too - a very nice USA Precision in Jade Green metallic keeps winking at me So, all round quite decent choice for a smallish city. Anybody know if Bulmers is shut permanently?
2. Just searched for a review of these having played through one at the studio where we rehearse and found yours. Spot on with your comments - I couldn't get over how loud it was! Got me thinking it has...
3. I was just wondering about Gretsch, but the earliest I can see with a casual surf is the Bikini (6024) from 1961.
4. Lovely looking bass...really like the gold anodised PG too, even as a someone who has become a bit evangelical about tort.
5. My interest in metal ended some decades back, so a 6 bemuses me.
6. I've had a slightly jaundiced view of the 80's, probably seen through the lens of a marriage which went pear shaped...But anyway: Closer - Joy Division The Crossing - Big Country Lexicon of Love - ABC Hatful of Hollow - Smiths
7. Heard on Radio 6 on the way into work. I don't think I've ever been so stunned by the death of someone outside family and friends. I didn't necessarily love all his creative output all the time, but he has been a presence throughout my adolescent and adult life. RIP
8. Just bought a hipshot from Paul who is great guy to deal with. Good comms, item well packed and as described. Great stuff, thanks!
9. Stunning bass - the parchment really brings out the red finish (I could say it makes it "pop", but I'd have to shoot myself). Nice one!
10. Gear4music are doing the Yamaha Bb425 in black for £249 in their sale. Quite tempted myself...
11. Paul Gray from Eddie and the Hot Rods (and others later) had good lines and energy. EHR were arguably more pub rock, but they crossed over well. Punk rock a reaction against Queen and ELO? Too right...Bohemian Bloody Rapsody needed a reaction!
12. A band of two halves - they needed that creative tension to make their best stuff. IMHO of course.
13. Lovely looking bass! I admire the creative vision and the execution to match - good job!
14. Been admiring your 'burst for a while and the white is also fab. I think I need a P/J in my life...that price is very nice too!
15. Bump for further clarification on price. In Black Friday Retail-land, the best price new I can see is £846 here http://www.projectmusic.net/fender-road-worn-60s-strat-olympic-white-4547-p.asp. Alternatively, used on ebay there's a slightly modded one at £719 plus £40 postage http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Road-Worn-60s-Stratocaster-Olympic-White-2-Mods-No-case-/111836580945?hash=item1a09facc51:g:wFgAAOSwFGNWTes2 or a sunburst at £599 plus £25 postage http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-ROADWORN-STRATOCASTER-ROAD-WORN-STRAT-/201471189467?hash=item2ee89e61db:g:KGwAAOSwEgVWRQwj So...roll up folks!
16.
Captain Beefheart Hendrix
Both of these chaps. Plus Little Feat with Lowell George up front Thin Lizzy - they played Cardiff Capitol just before it closed. Still don't know how I missed that one.
17. John Porter played on For Your Pleasure and (I think) Stranded. I remember them getting through a few bass players.
18. That's a lovely grain on the SG.
