I remember playing a 5 string burner years ago in electro music in doncaster, and the neck was really nice and the action very low it was a joy to play and it was only £800, it was the blue colour the same as walbassists, i only didnt get it as i was looking for a 4 and had a yamaha nathan east 5, TBO even though it was a while ago i dont think it was as good as the usa smiths the build quality is exceptional ( mind you it should be for the price diffrence) a small ote on that same shopping trip (i had £1000 to spend, i remember those days not being a dad = disposable income ) electro had a 4 string Wal bass in for £800 i really liked it but found the body a little bigfor me, so i walked away with a warwick streamer lx for the princely sum of £950 bloody kicking myself, i loved the streamer as it was an early one ad it served me well for many years. oh well love my smith to bits though, afretless burner would be cool though!!

Ive played five string pretty much all the time since i got my first yamaha back in 1996, i did have a couple of years where i played 4 string warwicks but then got a warwick 5, in my heart i mostly prefer a 4 and ithink thats something thats maybe pre programmed into your brain ( a bit like loving the tone of the fender bass, its been in most music for 60 years) i play a lot of shows and need a 5 as a lot of it is scored below low E and i always thought, taking it up the octave wasnt right otherwise it would be written that way!! At the moment i have my ken smith 5 set up with steel strings for a modern bright and punchy tone, and my jazz bass has some old nickel strings for those times ineed a more traditional tone (in fact in thinking of putting flats on it) i use whatever i deem appropriate for the show, funnily enough i use the 5 strings 95% of the time, but when i turn up with a four i usualy get "oh your a traditionalist" from bandmembers ultimately its all horses for courses, and i must admit even though ive tried a few and never bothered i am getting certain urges toward a six string bass, might be a good time to switch, i do like to play chords and double stops ( and im probaby getting lazy with position shifts ) very interesting thread, but no need to fight- all the best - lee

The EBS UNICHORUS has chorus and flanger modes, i always preffered flanging but when i had that pedal i tended to favour the chorus setting, a fantastic pedal none the less, pricey though!!
Wow... Thats awesome. There is little can wise outside of the EBS range that ever interests me... But that's on the list!!!
Just to say ive used EBS heads (td650/hd350) with accugroove cabs for about 4 years now and the sound is phenominal, they are very warm but clear sounding cabs lots of bottom end on hand and the soft dome tweeters have a very smooth treble which works really well with the EBS top end ( i mostly leave it flat and adjust the bright control to taste) which can be very bright! i know your after a neo 2x12, but this is seriously worth consideration, mind you i want it so leave it alone bump for a great cab - lee -

I think thats a fantastic looking bass, i particularly like the way the top horn in carved in, all the benefits of a singlecut but not as clumsy looking IMO, it reminds me of the nordstrand NX series!! this bass is a jazzers delight never been oe for six string basses but theres been a few on sale of late, that have got me thinking, if i had the cash etc etc blah blah!!!! bump for a gorgeous looking bass!!!

Just great ive always fancied one of these, great colour too!!! id say your price is fine mate as these dont come up often, id be curious to know if the JJ setting actualy sounds like a jazz bass as the spacing is a it diffrent, the P is in the same place though, a great idea, and id prefer it too the original which is a short scale!! does it have the through body stringing?

Love the white JV, it reminds me of what mine used to look like before i messed about with it i went through a phase of trying to "improve it" many years ago, and i very foolishly got rid of the original bridge and pickups ( still got the tuners though) when i got mine(about 1993) some prawn sanded off the original squire logo and put a crap fender sticker on, i had to have the headstock refinishedand had a 60,s style fender logo put on as i couldnt get a squire one at the time, I am considering taking out the preamp and maybe putting back the original bridge (i do like the badass though) yours looks i much better nick than mine as well, mines got a bit of mojo from 16 years of constant gigging all over the world love it mate if you ever move it on give me a shout - all the best - lee http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1530...p;id=1042572374 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1087...p;id=1042572374 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=5944...p;id=1042572374

Hi everybody It is with a very heavy heart that i do this, but as my finances are getting beyond my control im forced to part with my beautiful Ken Smith BSR5 mw, ive been holding back from selling this for a while as whenever i gig this bass im grinning from ear to ear!! It is bolt on constuction and features a very nice flamed maple centre core with a black walnut top and back with mahogany (i think) stringers in the body, also has a morado fingerboard( a harder form of rosewood which has a brighter sound generally) this model has the old style 9 volt 3 band preamp and smith humbuckers, string spacing is a very comfy 18mm and has the slimmest neck and lowest action of any 5 ive ever played. The sound is very precise and focused, with a modern but very warm tone and a sweet treble response which makes for a great slap sound. Conditionwise it is pretty much mint, it has one small ding on the bottom of the body and i tiny bit of buckle rash on the back. It comes with the smith branded hardcase ( disclaimer- one of the catches was damaged in transit to me, but it still closes fine)I will be wanting a very firm £1600 for it, i would prefer pick up only due to the expensive nature of the bass(best to try if shelling out that kind of cash), but will post at buyers expense if really neccesary, really sorry but no international sales please. I will be in the market for a replacement 5 string and cash my way- i would be interested in Musicman stingrays (pref maple fingerboard) Warwicks- BO or NT Streamers overwater perception spector euro sadowsky metro link to more pics further down the thread!
