1. Thats a lovely bass clarky!!! Ive always loved alembics, but alas a lottery win bass, much like a fodera couldnt be more diffrent to the humble P bass, im very recently rediscovering fleetwood mac, and john mcvie was a precision and alembic man, great tones!!! your in good company- all the best - lee
2. Cheers matt!!! Cant wait to see your black tiger, is it the same one as the pics on facebook? the figured walnut on those is just sublime, id love to see some more pics of Walldav,s 25th anniversary fusion elite, now thats my perfect smith right there!!!. Is yours the black tiger or the black tiger elite? im a nosey get!!! you must PM me what that thing set you back so in theory now you have your dream bass, when you go to the royal northern you can concentrate on music rather than chasing tone dragons like me cant wait to hear the tiger in action ive never played one. Geoff in answer to your question, the smith i have isnt heavy at all, not sure of the precise weight, but its a lot lighter and more comfortable than the warwick jazzman 5 i had previously, looking forward to some more smith pics as i too have been a long time fan, ever since i saw freddie washington playing his on my "bass as a solo instrument" video many moons ago, lovely tone and i dont think they are ugly at all, each to their own- cheers - lee Ps Matt - time to change your username to - EL BLACK TIGER#1
3. Thanks for the info Eude!!! i really do love the sunbeams, but i would like a little more snap from them (the d,addarios have a great brightness, but sound very harsh compared with the DR,s and they die very quickly and sound awful when they do) so the nickel lo riders sound ideal, there was alink to an excellent shootout between the DR line that ed friedland had done, he recorded them all, so you can compare them (the lo riders had the best slap sound i thought). As i said something between the sunbeams and hi beams will be spot on, as i dont like stiff feeling strings, the round core strings are really flexable. cheers - lee PS - Sunbeams/hi beams = round core = flexible nickel/steel lo riders = hex core = stiff
4. +1 on the DR Sunbeams, they are my absolute favourite string(i have them on my jazz), a little bit of zing initialy but wears off fairly quickly leaving a nice warm but very clear sound, just perfect, i used D,addario XL,s for years and you cant beat them on cost/tone as they are very good but as yo say quite bright and harsh compared to the sunbeams, i currently have fatbeams on my 5 string and they are very warm and smooth for steels, not much bightness at all really, i was very surprised, i am very tempted to try the lo rider nickels after the earlier post, although i remember trying the steel lo riders and not liking them at all. Anyway its all subjective and a very expensive learning curve finding "your" string, good luck with the quest
5. Just sold my Radial Bigshot to james, he paid very quickly and communication was spot on, great guy , thanks James - lee

12.
Hi Matt Brian Barret at The Low End in the US has an ultra-rare Smith BMT Elite fretted 6 for sale at the moment. These are the best Smiths of all IMO (I used to own one, as well as numerous other BSRs). I know it would mean buying sight unseen from the US, but I'd be astonished if it was anything less than incredible, and expensive. Cheers Gareth
WOW!!! thats amazing, put the series/parallel switches in and lose a string and i,d have my perfect smith right there, i feel a smith porn thread coming on. Thats ya baby matt right there, might need to add another 2k to your budget though lee
13. You got the gas then mate smiths are lovely!! a very unique sound and took a bit of getting used too i found!!! absolutely love mine now though!! giz a shout if your in bolton!! - lee
Aye i know i was dead chuffed when i got it and only used it for one show but obviously wasnt meant to hang onto it, great eq would like it built intomy jazz with the VTC will do that in the future- cheers lee
21. i think i went to newcastle college with this fellow when i was young(he was a bit older mature student - lol) gave me some great advice on adding a bit of mids in a very sh*t sounding hall, mind you my sound at the the time was a jv squire jazz using the back pickup only, as i was going through my jaco phase honking like mother goose- nice fellow if its the same person i remember being told he was in the tygers of pan tang, id never acually heard of them though, but i did get a coloured record of theirs though= great bass and the same as mine- lee
22. Hi everyone Due to 2010 ,s relentless assault on my finances im having to let go of a couple of my gadgets SADOWSKY PREAMP/DI PEDAL ( SOLD!!! ITS GONE) You all know what this is, very recently bought by me from the excellent bosshog ive only gigged it once and its fantastic, i used it in a show with my ken smith and it warmed up the sound no end, fantastic quality, i got it to use with my jazz and im pretty sure its the perfect circuit for the humble fender, i will eventually get one fitted to the guitar. Anyway its in great nick and with spice up your jazz bass no end £120 incl delivery RADIAL BIGSHOT I/O INSTRUMENT SWITCHER ( ALSO SOLD) This is such a handy piece of kit, but its not that often i take two basses to gigs, built like a tank it has a mute facility and a bright switch which is great for adding a little sparkle to passive basses , one channel has a volume control to match the instrument levels when switching between them, it had a rubberfoot missing when i got it, so itook them all off to stop it wobbling, once again ive used it twice - £50 incl delivery ive no pics at the mo but will get some up at the weekend- thanks for looking - lee
