Good news, hope the show went well.

I had a similar problem that turned out to be a loose jack socket as Bunion suggested. Tightened it up and the cutting out and 'scratching' noise went away. The socket in question was the locking locking type mounted on the edge of the bass.

The last set of 'short scale' flats I purchased (Rotosound 77's) were for a 30" scale length and I had to scrape away the windings on the one string when fitting to my 30.5" short scale. Rotosounds 'medium scale' set fitted my 30" scale through body strung bass. Check the manufacturers spec it is normally stated, but would suggest you are looking at 'medium scale' from most manufacturers for a 31" scale length.

There is Neon Studios in Burntwood just a few miles outside Lichfield, 01543 677012. They have around 11 rehearsal rooms and our band use it. It's also just up the road from me so you would be most welcome to pop in for a cuppa S&J Music in Lichfield do have a studio but it would only fit about 4 people in comfortably, 5 at a push.

I live near Lichfield which is reasonably close to Walsall Mike.

When I first had abass many decades ago I was always told that the bass should be felt and not heard. I think there are times for the bass just to be there and when required be more prominent.
