  1. You can purchase Newtone strings direct from their website which also gives you the option to choose round or hexagonal cores. The Platinum versions are wound to be smooth for recording purposes.
  2. I also have a Silver Series Pbass which I purchased from the Basschat classifieds for around £275 a few years ago. It's a nice sounding well built bass.
  3. Best of luck for tonight Dom (just recovering from a bout of flu myself so no how you feel).
  4. Nice one Marty.
  5. We have had the Sonos Beam for a couple of years and that has good sound and is highly rated by others (and available from Richer Sounds). You may be able to pick up the Version 1 for around £349 or go with Version 2 which has Dolbby Atmos for £429.
  6. Looks like a fine job done there, full marks to Jon Shuker. I bet you're a very happy man.
  7. They also got a good review in Bass Guitar magazine.
  8. You could also look at the Platinum range of bass strings from Newtone. These have a smoother wind than normal and you can also choose round or hex cores.
  9. Nice👌
  10. Yep I liked the short scale one except for the pickup arrangement.
  11. They are Ashdown/Lakin designs produced in a factory in the far east that has produced Laklands I think.
  12. Bought one of the Bass Bash t-shirts off Mike, excellent design and super fast delivery. Thanks Mike.
  13. Add to your list Ashdown their older 15w with an 8" speaker is only £79 at a lot of online retailers. More than enough power for practice and I think Andertons have a video/youtube review of a number of practice amps.

    Howdy

    Welcome john.
  15. I applaud how well you are getting on with moving production to the UK - respect to you.
  16. With regard to pricing I have not found Amazon to be the cheapest recently in fact up to 20% dearer on some of the products I have been looking for. Also found their search engine throws up anything it thinks is close to what you want even when the part or product entered is specific, it's becoming tedious.
  17. It's due to their construction. Being made from flat metal they do not attract dirt into the windings like roundwound so last longer. There are many stories of pro bass players not changing flatwounds for years, decades even.
  18. With flats you will probably never need to replace them😁
  19. For funk listen to Larry Graham, Flea, Les Claypool, Marcus Millar and Stanley Clarke. Not all of these are out and out funksters but have been influenced by the genre.
  20. A lot of practice combo amps have an auxilliary input for an mp/cd player that also allows a tablet or computer to be connected normally via the headphone or line out sockets. Alternatively you could use a headphone amplifier like the valeton/vox or Blackstar which plug into the cable socket of the guitar and you just plug headphones in. If you are interested in going this route let me know as I have a spare unit that you could have which will allow you to concentrate on getting the bass first.
  21. As per replies above regarding going along to a shop. Also try out long and short scale basses as well as different makes. Best of luck on your bass journey.
  22. An excellent band. I have most of their output on vinyl and particularly like the albums Giant for a Day and In a Glass House.
  23. Purchased a copy of Rivals of the Beatles book from Mick, easy process and excellent communication topped off by prompt delivery. A true Basschatter, many thanks Mick.
  24. Another option maybe: MyVolts
