Fretboard Accelerator Programme aka the Gary Willis book thread
naxos10 replied to Stub Mandrel's topic in General Discussion
'Meanwhile, can anyone explain what "a linear approach" is, as mentioned in the title of Mr Willis' book? easy words only please.' Toneknob, have a look at the Phil Mann lockdown video's on the Ashdown site. He talks about the linear approach, cycle of fourths and other processes. I think there are 4 videos in total covering fretboard progressions.- 103 replies

That looks nice, how does it play?

Muse music mix on the Amazon Echo.

Have a bass with switchable Active/Passive modes and use a pedal if required. My ACG is fitted with a John East pre-amp with this option and I use a Dave Hall VT1 just to 'warm' the sound if required. Generally meets all the requirements I need especially a battery fail.

Fretboard Accelerator Programme aka the Gary Willis book thread

I've been bombarded with the emails as well together with the offer of $50 off but that still makes the cost high for something that has such a time commitment. I will admit that the course would probably improve my playing though.- 103 replies

I use Newtone 50-110 nickel roundwound strings on all my short scale bases. They suit the scale length and provide a tension that allows precise control of the note played with fingers (soft to hard depending upon the song being played).

TEAC do a couple: TEAC MC-D800_CH TEAC LP-R500A-B The 800 unit has separate speakers and what looks like a better turntable. The 500 is an all in one. Both are well within the £500 budget. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Teac-Turntable-Combination-Rotation-Bluetooth/dp/B014HG9VDY/ref=pd_sbs_23_4/261-1946044-8659907?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B014HG9VDY&pd_rd_r=48ddaf30-4e12-421f-942b-1a34c0d16469&pd_rd_w=Ym2kt&pd_rd_wg=T7FnJ&pf_rd_p=2773aa8e-42c5-4dbe-bda8-5cdf226aa078&pf_rd_r=4SWYY6EBYSBSM149FW1V&refRID=4SWYY6EBYSBSM149FW1V&th=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Teac-LP-R500-Vinyl-Cassette-Station/dp/B002RW5298/ref=pd_di_sccai_4/261-1946044-8659907?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B002RW5298&pd_rd_r=499d56fc-4c7c-4854-ba02-30545babda4d&pd_rd_w=sT2e5&pd_rd_wg=D40fX&pf_rd_p=59cc1d13-7615-4c08-b20b-ea879fcdf2b9&pf_rd_r=XHCARFNX9H0T018Q2NRE&psc=1&refRID=XHCARFNX9H0T018Q2NRE

Had a note from our studio saying that they are re-assessing their opening strategy due to the fact that an enclosed space increases the risk of catching Covid19 due to droplets put into the air when singing. This looks like a sensible move since a similar situation exists for theatres and venues, and it must be similar for pubs.

We are in phase 2 of a three phase return at our studio. Hoping to hear about the 3rd phase in the next couple of weeks.

There is a white 4 string Lodestone passive P bass still available on the Ashdown website if anyone is interested.

What weight is the Lodestone Kevin?

There are a number of converters on Amazon, search using "dc 5v to dc 12v usb voltage step up converter cable". There are 9V units as well.

I use the Tascam in my practice setup feeding the bass into a Zoom B1 Four which in turn takes the output Tascam, and then output the B1 into a Vox Pathfinder. This works really well and offers great flexibility.

My NS94 was made in Korea and played and sounded excellent, it was just a little heavy so moved it on.

Our studio has sent us a note giving us the first phase of a 3 part plan for opening which includes: Only one band per studio per night Specific numbers per studio dependent upon size. Kit will be placed so that the 2m rule can be applied Staff will be cleaning each studio after the nights session Mike clips and drum parts will be left on Bands to use their own microphones and leads Further info to follow.

There's an Ampeg PF500 in the classifieds that may suit your criteria.

Deoxit - another product highly regarded in the world of hi-fi. It is also useful, as are any of the products mentioned, for keeping speaker and instrument plugs and sockets clean.
-
So should all other string manufacturers. At least it is on the Newtone website.

It's one of the best albums of the seventies. If you like it try and listen to their Breakfast in America album as well.

Nice strap. I am coming to the same conclusion regarding standard straps on a Hofner (I have a Hofner Club) so will be looking for a traditional strap myself soon.

Try Newtone strings which are available in Stainless or Nickel, round or hex core and virtually any gauge you want. You can even have two types of winding by going for either the Diamond or Platinum options. They have the extra benefit of being made in the UK.
