1.
I did a fade out on a folk cover a few weeks ago - I just walked slowly backwards and played gentler and gentler until I was behind the back stage curtain.
CW Stoneking's whole band do this - It sounds (and looks) brilliant!

 4.
Maybe try palm muting gently, while popping the note hard? If your pop technique is anything like mine, the side of your hand should come to rest quite naturally on the strings.
Thanks! That works well and was well explained
 5. Baby Huey's version of 'A change is gonna come' for a new band. Simple stuff but because it's in a slightly different time sig and reeeeeeeeeaaaalllllllyyyyyy slow it's quite tricky and I can't relax into it.
 6. All cried out is pretty cool.
 7. The Boss ME-50B has a fretless emulator which sounds pretty good. Even better when I use my fretless with it.
 8. Although I love the original, this version is nice and groove-laden too.
 9.
Interesting thread and I wonder how long it will be before the Vintage Trouble backlash starts, when people realise the band they 'discovered' playing at their local venue and they've told all their mates about, are actually not a gang of 40 somethings who are 'keeping it real' and doing it the hard way by gigging relentlessly, but are in fact signed to Doc McGhee's management company, and the 'underground band' thing is just a very clever marketing ploy aimed squarely at the middle aged, middle income, middle class rock fans who hate what the music biz has become - ie: Simon Cowell's toy, and relish the chance to get behind a 'real band' (man). Doc McGhee you will know as the ex manager of Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Kiss............. and guess who VT are opening for this summer? Yep.........Bon Jovi.
My own personal Vintage Trouble backlash started when I went to see them live and realised they had no more than 3 decent songs and the rest were a beigeness of Middle America.
 10.
Singer;" I'm on a hen night next new years eve
Don't believe him!
 11.
" The Rolling Stones are the best band in the World. I think so, so does my wife and our daughter and all her friends". That's from our booted lead singer/guitarist and band creator who refused to play a Snow Patrol track because nobody's ever heard of them
He should have refused on the grounds that they're the most insipid, bedwetting piece of beige crap he's ever heard.
 12. No Went for a bargain as well!
 13. Les is more cooling if you're out in the hot sun but if you want to get away quickly then it has to be Flea.
 14.
. I have just picked up a Thunder III fretless so happy days
Oo nice, how much and pics?
 15.
I think though that when an established well known band plays a cover version of another bands song they often embellish basslines and stuff. I personally would hate to go see any band and have them play the song exactly like the record even if it was well within their capability to do so. I tend to favour live versions of songs anyway and I disagree with an earlier post that suggests there isn't much variety between performances a quick look on Youtube will show you many groups perform songs differently. I am still hoping a live version of REM's Country Feedback that was once on Youtube gets re posted as all the other ones I have seen weren't as good and were very different.
Maybe years apart they will have changed their style or how they like to play it, but they won't just make it up on the night and throughout one tour it will played the same way. Especially where you have midi cues,or lighting, video and pyro cues to work to as well.
 16. That is beautiful! Hope I win it
 17.
I reckon that most of the original bands dont even play the same thing when they gig each night
Sorry, but in my experience from working with touringbands this is incorrect. Great (and even halfway decent) originals bands know exactly what they're going to play and have rehearsed it to death. Even the between song banter is the same each night and is scripted and rehearsed. Ad-libbing simply leaves too much room for things to go wrong.
 18.
Should have got Mariella Frostrup to kick his arse, the fat gobsh*te.
You know, for a second I thought he meant Moyles too!
 19.
"said drummers" are pretty much at the top of their game, and didn't get there by "having a sh*t sound". FWIW When we arrive at a rehearsal/venue/TV etc we give the drummer 10 minutes to have a play before the rest of us get on stage. Soundchecks can be stressful at the best of times.
What I meant was even the greatest drummers ( and bassists, guitarists, singers etc) are at the mercy of the engineer in a live situation unless it's a completely acoustic gig. I've seen people piss off the engineer by being arsey in a sound check only to become the sound guy's bitch during the gig and have piss poor onstage and FOH sound. True, engineers should respect the performers, but it's wise to do as he/she asks as they know the venue and what works there.
 20.
I know a few drummers who, had they been 'told off' by an engineer (BBC or not), would have presented said engineer with a nice bit of bling...in the shape of a snare drum necklace. EDIT: Thinking about it, I know a bass player who would be none too happy about either
I imagine said drummers etc don't mind having a sh*t live sound then...
 21.
As I peruse the for sale boards for instruments I can't afford, I regularly see them advertised from "smoke free homes". I was just wondering, am I missing something about ciggarette smoke causing damage? I know lots of people find smoking a dirty habit, and if you were buying a sofa or clothes second hand then "smoke free" would be an advantage, or maybe a mixing desk thats been used as an occasional ashtray or skinning up board would be something to avoid, but do basses aquire a smokey smell? Does nicotine clog up the pots or deaden the string prematurely? Perhaps it leeches behind the finish and causes crazing? If my basses look a bit grubby I'll give 'em a wipe with a clean cloth and without a second thought. Should tobacco packets come with a warning of the damage caused to musical instruments? Just wondering.

That is news to me. I can't say I've ever been able to smell a bass in my entire life. Perhaps I haven't been trying hard enough. My sense of smell's shot anyways due to the erm... smoking. I thought it was ageing and sunlight that caused some finishes to yellow. If an instrument has developed a covering of smokey residue then surely it just needs, or did need, a bit of a rub with a cloth. Next time I see some dude with an old guitar in the pub I might go up and ask them for a sniff.

I can appreciate that people don't like smoking but I just can't (or couldn't) imagine anybody knocking back an instrument because it smells of anything. If it was dirty then I'd clean it and the smell would be gone. You go to buy a used bass. It looks good. It feels good. It sounds good. The price is right. Hang on... *sniff, sniff*... NO SALE! Has that ever happened?
Nicotine STAINS - you can't just wipe it off as if it were dust or dirt.
 22.
and my all time fave version of......
Oof that's some sweet tone!
