1.
Like many others I can see both points of view. I also in my day job work in what could be loosely considered a "Customer Service" environment (Education). I know it only takes one thing to set some people off, and the chances are your party of 16 were already aggrieved and looking for a fight finding themselves seated in a small space right up against the band, and it all whent downhill from there. Letters of complaint do tend to increase and exagerate the situation. Believe you and me I have been accused of all crimes bar piracy by Parents who have been agreived at something I had nothing to do with, nor any control over. Think both sides can learn a valuable lesson here. I would think myself as a punter would not like much more than an accoustic duo type arangement if I was sitting down to eat. I think the only time music and food mix well is in a dinner-dance situation where the band starts when the eating stops, or in an italian resteraunt (on one of my wedding aniversaries, at his resteraunt, had the pleasure of having Renato of "rene and Renato" fame sing to myself and the wife - pity he passed away and the restraunt changed hands).
What? DURING the song? That's an anniversary to remember!
 2. Thanks Steve, that's kind of what I was worried about. And thanks everyone else for your comments - BC is great!
 3.
Couple of thoughts: * Cost of cancelling holiday vs remuneration from gigs. Will you be quids out? * Do the trip later - the countries you propose to visit are perfectly nice in September. Fewer tourists around, too, though many hotels, etc., may be closing up at season's end.
You're right and if I offer to do the August gigs I'll ask to be recompensed cost of cancelling flights etc. Doing the trip later would be a great option but I work in education so could only take that amount of time off in August.
+1 to this, as long as your wife is okay with it of course. Liam
Girlfriend not wife.. what do you call your unmarried other half in internetland? Ms Chaypup?
 4.
e) Talk it over with Mrs Chaypup.
Well, she says she wouldn't stand in the way of me doing what I wanted to do and told me to do the gigs. I don't take her for granted though and wouldn't want to take the mickey.
 5. I've got a dilemma that I would like to hear your opinions on. I've got a nice holiday booked for 2 and a bit weeks in August - going to Croatia, then inter-railing through Italy, Switzerland France and Spain to end up at La Tomantina festival in Valencia. All this with Mrs Chaypup. Now I've been offered the chance to tour with someone throughout the summer, and do some TV work too. The record company don't know exactly how many gigs or dates but say it 'should' be 2 or 3 gigs a week for July and August and all would be well paid. The only date they know for definite is at a good venue in London - on the missus' birthday! When I was originally offered the gig I said that I had this holiday booked and they ummed and aahed but said they could get someone else in for that time but this seems a bit of an unprofessional way of doing things. So, what would you do? a) Cancel the holiday altogether and say I'll do the whole tour. b )Wait till I know gig dates and hope I can re-jig the holiday around them. c) Let them get someone in for the time I'm away and hope I keep the gig after that. d) Turn down all the summer gigs but let them know I'd be available for future tours. ???
 6. Might as well suggest the obvious too.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMrNDnU6PPk
 7. This is a great track.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvCCQxypdaQ
 8. Nice to see he's still got the Thunder - looks in brilliant nick too!
 9. Nice looking Thunder and someone may get a bargain. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270994558529&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123#ht_500wt_951 Love this line at the end:
The snazzy shoes in the photo are not for sale, they just create ambience.
10. Done - good luck!
 11. Played in Koko's again last night. Not a full gig but an excellent open mic where we try out 4-5 new songs each week and have some fun. We went down well and there were some top notch musicians there for us to enjoy either side of our 'set' too. Any Cardiff people get down there on a Thursday - it's a great night!
 12.
A recent pose featuring BC clothing and GWB35 With the Sandberg And the 63 P
I'm pretty sure you're miming in that first pic!
 13.
If I remember rightly it is.
If it's your old one which was my old one then it is.
 14. Hi fellow BC denizens! I would greatly appreciate advice any of you have for playing bigger stages and also for tv work etc. I've played bass for some while and until now my biggest gigs have been in front of a couple of hundred people in pubs and small venues. I've just bagged a job which will involve playing festivals across Europe and is looking likely to include tv shows as well. The band is hip-hop/roots style and I play the gear listed below generally. Do I need a bigger rig? Is it better to hire a rig? What advice do you wish you'd received before stepping up to the big time? I get quite bad stage nervousness at most gigs anyway so any tips there I'd love to hear as well! Thanks.
 15. I thought I had gone deaf and panicked - until I realised that the work computer I'm on had had the volume turned off! I can hear them all. *Old man voice* I'm 36 you know!
 16. Played a dep gig for a ska band last night. 30-odd songs to learn in a week on charts that weren't necessarily the same as what the band played on stage. I played like a dog on a couple of tracks, especially house of fun, but the band were a nice bunch and very appreciative and invited me back for more gigs so that was cool. Even better, this morning I get a call from a well-known hip hop producer/mc asking me to tour with him!
 17. That's a lovely fretless Westone Thunder II hanging on his wall
 18. Cool, thanks basschatters!
 19. Oh thanks! Just saw it again. So, an EUB then?
 20. I'll have to wait till it's on the iPlayer to get a pic.
 21. Anyone watching The Voice? What was the crazy fretless bass with half a body that was standing up behind Jessie J?
 22.
Great rehearsal = bad gig.

And vice-versa. Superstition of course, but it's happened so many times I'm beginning to think there's something in it...
Yep, same here. I think a couple of cock-ups in the last rehearsal before a gig focuses you a little bit more than a perfect rehearsal does. IME + IMO.

So you change volume and tone how?
 24.
24hr Pre-performance bump!
I only caught half an hour of your second set due to there being far too many things on in Cardiff this weekend! But what I saw was great! Hope to catch you guys again soon.
 25. It's just as depressing when they don't say anything at all.
