Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
chaypup replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Thunder 1A for £350 with parts missing and photo's nicked from the Westone site? Errrrrrr no thanks! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260940017800&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123#ht_500wt_945 -
That does nothing for me.
Well you can buy it and give it to me then!
When the gig-triangle is missing all it's pieces it's time to leave.
What are the pieces? I'm guessing enjoyment, comfortable slacks, and hordes of fit birds. Where can I claim my £5?

Slap, for people who don't like slap.
chaypup replied to Beer of the Bass's topic in Theory and Technique
This dvd here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ed-Friedland-Slap-...3667&sr=1-1 It's by Ed Friedland, who is an absolutely fantastic player, and it goes right from the basic form of the techniques all the way up to the fancy stuff with a few tricky lines! I bought it a few years ago and it really revitalised my slap playing as it brought me back to basics and made me focus on raising the standard from the ground up.
I found it went straight from really really basic straight to super fast wa**ery with nothing inbetween. You can have my copy if you want. Edit: I mean the OP can have my copy, not Chris2112 as I'm sure he already has it! -
This thread is great! Really well thought-out posts here

Wrist Tendonitis issues - instrument options?
chaypup replied to thisnameistaken's topic in General Discussion
If you hadn't played football for 6months and then played a 3 hour game last night, you'd be aching all over today! Give your wrists time to get used to electric bass again by going in to it slowly, and make sure you warm up too! -
Possibly worth mentioning at this point that I am looking for a Westone Pantera Deluxe X790 bass. Just in case there actually is someone out there with one going spare who just so happens to be reading this...
There's one here but it'll cost yer AND you have to get it shipped from the 'States. Looks pretty good though, I only wish Westone had made a 5-string Thunder or even a Superheadless 5-er..*sigh* EDIT: I should put the link in shouldn't I! I said something really. Stupid to a great friend
chaypup replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
I was talking to someone I hadn't met before at a friend's party when he mentioned that he's like to be a Mayor one day. At this point I noticed that his hands were shaking. I GENUINELY thought that he was doing a Michael J.Fox impression and told him I thought it was in poor taste. ..Whereupon he informed me (and the 7 other people standing round us) that the shaking was due to the medication he had to take for a serious illness. Scheiser! Another time, while working on the door of a club I told a guy I wouldn't let him in as he'd obviously had enough already, being unable to take the change from me easily and wobbling a bit. That was when he told me he was registered blind, so it was tricky for him to see me offering the change in the dark corridor. I should've spotted the clues as I work supporting people with disabilities! D'oh! -
friends are more important than music.
In which case he'll understand that you need to replace him and remailn friends with you both. ...Unless he's a prima donna idiot who'll get massively offended and not speak to you for the next 6 months EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T YOU WHO WANTED HIM OUT AND YOU ARGUED HIS CASE. Move along now, nothing to see here.

James Taylor.. shower the people you love with love..
chaypup replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Ugh, pure cheese. I don't get the James Taylor thing. Americans love that brand of mush. Makes for a very dull song, IMO
Ooooh someone's cranky! You know what you need? A lovely big hug! -
What's the best technique for getting a hard, short, pull-off (as heard in Luther Vandross's 'Never Too Much? I can't seem to deaden the note enough. And you, Jones, at the back there - stop sniggering boy! EDIT: And after all the innuendo, what I actually meant was the hammer-on pop towards the end of the phrase in the verse.

Beautiful headstock on this Thunder...... http://www.ebay.co.u...ME:B:SS:GB:1123 -
I don't normally dig big bass solos but Bootsy's off the hook on this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZECQCQjP38

Loving this by The Brothers Johnson which no doubt has been posted some pages back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbxUtFDKz8k Rather annoying that it's in Gminor and the tape has been sped up so it sits somewhere between G and Ab though....
-
Westones are beautiful and amazing to play! I would really like a Thunder IIa, the version with 2 precision style pups and the xlr output if anyone has one to sell...........
-
I think it's Vintage One who put up the ad.
There's any number I could have picked, but plumped for this seeing as it kicks off with the bass. Great playing/tone. Allen McGrier, I believe? http://youtu.be/FEFw_EnCuNE
So good! There's too much good funk in this thread - I'm getting a funk overdose!
Sultans Of Ping FC - Give Him A Ball (And A Yard Of Grass)
Great song and great band! Used to play 'Where's Me Jumper?' and 'S-t-u-p-i-d Kid' many years ago.
