1. One of the comments from the band (I assume Nick is the bass player) : It was all done as part of a project with Nicks permission don't worry! Plenty of immaculate instruments in his collection!
2. Did my second house band at jam session yesterday, usual mix of stuff I either knew, only half remembered or in some cases never played before in my life. Despite suffering the after effects of Nottingham beer festival the night before it seemed to go OK, more players than there were 2 weeks ago but I still ended up playing a fair bit. A highlight was our very own seashell turning up and rocking out on a few tunes with the house guitarist and a couple of other regulars.
3. I have a guitarpro file for it which sounds pretty accurate to me. I used it to learn it for a covers band I was in several years ago and no one thought it wasn't right so can't be far off. if you have software that can read the file drop me a PM and I'll email you the file.
4.
There are exceptions, you can get the sheet music for this and check his accuracy, I just stand back and gape
And he's playing with only half the number of strings of the guy in the OP, doubly impressive!
5. Saw him live about 10 or 12 years ago, he managed to play about 4 songs in his 45 minute allocation
6. Maybe you could have him fitted with castors instead?
7. Posted this before but since there's also some cowboy boot, jeans with holes and waistcoat action thrown in for good measure there's enough to keep the fashion police smirking for some time... 8. I was a bassworld member before chat but I think I was only on b-world for about two years before it folded and chat replaced it. I don't rememebr which year the changeover happened so not sure if I go back as far as 2005, it's possible. When was the very first gathering at that pub near the M1 in Northampton happened? I was a memebr then. Edit just checked bc came in 2007 so I may well go back as far as the 2005 page shown on waybackmachine. Feeling older than ever...
9. Quite like the look of this; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-2013-American-Deluxe-Dimension-Bass-IV-HH-Natural-Maple-/290980432488?_trksid=p2054897.l4276#ht_2005wt_958 If one came up for say £600 second hand in a few years in decent nick I might be interested.
10. There's a Tommy Shannon instructional DVD on blues bass playing that can usually be picked up on the cheap in music shops, worth a look to the OP maybe?
11. Warwick? ages since I was there. Nice castle from what I recall but they were charging an arm and a leg entrance so we didn't go in.
12. According to his website the bass player is Greg Harewood who I'm not familiar with. Probably a jobbing pro session guy?
13. Aesthetically I like the look of rosewood on a jazz but maple on a P which is why I'm currently gigging these
14. Back to one of our more regular venues last night. First set a bit quiet but then the place really filled up for the second and we had a good work out, some nice positive feedback from punters and one guy in the audience offered us an extra £20 if we'd play until midnight. We didn't have the heart to tell him we usually play until almost that time anyway but didn't turn down the extra cash
15. Yep, get enough learned initially to a good enough standard to get you through the gig then at least you can start working whilst expanding the set list. Doing 200 from scratch and *then* moving onto gigging is a non starter. It'll take so long to get them all up to standard that you will probably start losing band members and then you are chasing your tail bedding in replacements whilst still trying to get this theoretical 200 song list up and running, it'll be like painting the Forth bridge. Band I'm in sometimes does wedding too though we don't really promote ourselves as a wedding band at all. They sent me 33 songs to learn and that's more than we'll ever play at a gig. We've then started learning new stuff whilst gigging with a set list culled from the original 33 so our total is now more like 40 or so.
16. Plenty of folks earn decent money doing it that way, I did a duo gig for the Diamond Jubilee in a little gazebo that wouldn't have fitted a live drummer if we could have found one. In fact the (trio) house band I'm doing jam sessions with might have a go at augmenting the set with some backing, principally keys and brass sections with the drummer working to a click, just for a bit of variety.
17. You're being a bit mischievous there Conan, Down on the farm is probably one of the least representative examples of what I'd call classic Camel. It was written by Richard Sinclair so (unsurprisingly) sounds just like Caravan. It's the material that Andy Latimer had a major input on that I'd cite as being more representative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VMljszwjag http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPOvraS2qDk
18.
Always tell when a band's audience is getting older as they introduce the much needed two setter pee break lol
fixed for ya
19. I'm going to Wolverhampton on 20th and looking forward to it. One of those bands I never got round to seeing before and with Latimer's health issues it looked like I never would (apparently he's a lot better now) so when these gigs came up I jumped at the chance. It's also on a Sunday so a nice steady drive down and some pub grub en route will be great and the traffic will be very light for the journey home. Whole of Snow Goose album plus more in a 2 set show, excellent!
20. Saw him at Rock City in Nottm years ago and though it was a terrific gig in a nice intimate venue I did wonder if he became really big how he'd transfer to bigger arenas. Was also at High Voltage when he played with BCC and I thought they were the best act all day.
21. Back to back gigs so a tiring weekend. Pub gig on Sat night with main band was a good one but we always seem to go down well at that particular venue. Nice touch was a mate who's a brass (mainly trombone) player came along for a listen and commented how nice the bass sounded so I'll be sticking with my rig which has served me the last 7 or 8 years now. Slight trial by fire yesterday as I took the plunge and joined the house band for a jam / open mic afternoon. Played with the guys before but always difficult to second guess what they are in the mood to play, they know a vast selection of material to a good standard so it's always a learning curve with them, hopefully get less stressful as I pick up some of the songs they do regularly these days (its a couple of years since I stood in for any length of time). Problem was it was unusually quiet which meant we did more sets than usual and I filled in with another band a couple of times too, must have played 5 or 6 sets yesterday.
22.
Aw, but it's daamn 'ard to go on stage with blood gushing from a wound
Didn't stop young Sidney... 23. We've been doing a lot of private parties over last couple of months so it's been a while since I was at a public event. However if anyone is in the area and wants to laugh at the rudimentary PA then we're here on Sat 28th Sep and here on Sat 5th Oct. Alternatively any other bass players wishing to bring either just themselves or their full bands along to a fun packed Sunday afternoon jam here I'll be in the house band this Sunday (29th Sep) starts at 3pm runs until 7pm.
24. Saxon were never 'heavy metal' in their early days as I saw it. Classic melodic British heavy rock. then the crowds began to dwindle, they had a go at the US market (failed inevitably) and then went chasing the younger audience brought up on the likes of Metallica (we've all got to make a living I guess) and became much heavier, thrashier than they ever were in their heyday at which point I totally lost interest. Byford still seems the sort of bloke I'd happily have a pint with though.
25. I thought Steve Swallow might work in a Police tribute. But then I realised... One Swallow does not a Sumner make.... cloakroom attendant, yes that's mine hanging over there..cheers.
