If it is possible to send attachments with messages to the ebayer pretending to sell th eitem would it be possible for police squad to send him a pic of the bass with today's newspaper alongside it, tell him he's been rumbled and to withdraw it before he gets in real trouble from ebay, or is this just letting him off too lightly?

Gig we were originally booked to play yesterday afternoon/early evening didn't happen. Slightly annoying as we didn't ask for the gig, the pub landlord got in touch with us to do it and we all reshuffled our Sundays to accommodate then a few days before the gig he said he'd changed his mind as was going to go with another band because 'they have a couple of guys that have played with The Specials'. It would have been more driving and probably not a particularly well paid gig so we weren't too fussed. I ended up at a cancer charity fund raiser that friends had organsied and had a pleasant couple fo hours chatting to mates I hadn't seen in a while instead. One gig left next Sat then I'm off until September.

Just back from ripping through another wedding gig. We played a 45min first set after being continually asked when we were going on then someone else wanted to do a 'first dance' song with our kit for bride & groom which we were OK with. Then the groom wanted to play 3 or 4 songs with old band mates who were guests so we let them do that too, despite the groom nearly breaking one of our mic stands with some onstage nonsense. So eventually get on at 9:30 rather than the agreed 9:00. Did a solid 45min set. As soon as we were off we were then immediately hassled about when we were going back on, how long would the break be. So we said we'd go back on at 10:45 and do a 1 hour second set. We went on at 10:45 on the dot and got offstage at 00:25 ! And then the bride wanted to pay us half the original agreed fee which was cheap for a wedding in the first place! We still had a blast though and all the guests were up dancing or providing impromptu backing vox (I barely had to sing all night). A few more pennies in my coffers for the upcoming Skiathos trip. One more wedding next weekend and that's me done gigging until September.

Staggered by bass and guitar prices in the shop recently.
KevB replied to tonybassplayer's topic in General Discussion
They don't really seem to be flying off the pages s/h in ebay auctions either so if people are reluctant to even pay half or 2/3 new value for a used instrument in good nick then I can see some of these shops having new gear hanging around for a while. I've bought all of my decent basses s/h. I noticed that an identical model to the last one I bought from a fellow bc'er was being sold by a shop in the UK (also second hand and in poorer condition to the one I bought but with a bit more case candy) for twice what I paid, would be amazed if it sells! -
I'm a bit put off by the Dairylea cheese wedge stuck in the headstock so I'll be giving this one a miss.

I have to say the last couple of times I saw them (which is still a good few years back) he did look rather feeble and a little out of it. I recall we spotted him wandering around outside with his towel still round his neck just after a gig, think he probably went through a wrong door and out onto the street by accident, didn't look quite 'with it'. Looks like it was probably the chain smoking that got to him in the end though, RIP.

Looks like there's one here; http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Genuine-Fender-250K-S-1-S1-Switch-Telecaster-Tele-Jazz-Bass-0061260000-/200946599018?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2ec959c46a#ht_2081wt_815

Everyone's welcome down the Greyhound on a Sun afternoon. Might be picking up some of the house band bass slack when someone moves on in September, just to ratchet up my adrenaline levels a bit more. Nothing quite like being approached by strangers saying 'Do you know this song in the key of (insert song title you barely know and some obscure randome key that no one is going to be able to sing it in).

Poor bastard, stuck there in jazz hell when he could be knocking out Mustang Sally down the dog and duck...

When I got my P bass deluxe s/h at the handover I was amazed at the state of the hardcase. It looked like it had been sat in or had been spilt with some quite aggressive organic solvent. This had eaten through the outer shell in a couple of places though the interior remained undamaged. I've patched it with gaffa for the time being, it is an odd body shape and I don't think a regular P moulded case would fit. It made me think that if it had been in a soft case that would have just soaked it up like a sponge and I expect would have made it through to the finish on the bass itself.

My S1 jazz is still the one I like to play the most of my 4 'proper' basses and cost the least. Picked up on eBay on a relisting for under £400 with a hard case included. Original receipt was still inside from some place on Denmark St for over twice that, it was under 2 yrs old when I got it. Wish I could play it more in the band but most of the songs in the set are shoe-ins for a passive P so that gets the gig at present.
to me, it sounds like a mess from the start, too many "members" not being able to practice, and as for travelling 4 round hours for practices with the sax player? f*** that.
Agree, I know sax players can be hard to find but surely there's one available closer to everyone else or that at least has own transport?

The capering drunk was distracting me On the whole a very commendable performance from what I heard but I wasn't there to pass any judgement, just take in the evening. Shame there wasn't much genuine 'jamming' going on or I might have been able to give everyone a laugh with my 'playing'. My ears were ringing like nobody's business when I got in the car!

It's just the volume control for the neck pickup that has the S1 switch, if you depress the inner part of this it is on a little spring latch and will stay in until it is pressed again. Switches PU outputs from series to parallel and back. With it depressed the bridge PU vol control becomes redundant, all output is controlled from neck PU knob. Undo it and you are back to independent controls again, the tone knob just acts normally for either configuration. If I'm doing rockier stuff I often play with the switch pressed in all the time, gives the ooutput a ballsier sound.

Think mine's a 2003 model, it's an S1 so I'm guessing yours will be too? quite a handy device to have on a jazz to give it some extra oomph when needed.

Can Anybody Recommend Me A Case For A Large Semi Acoustic Bass?
KevB replied to bagsieblue's topic in General Discussion
Coming to this thread late so sorry if this has been covered. I assume it is the length of the thing (34'' sclae?) that's ruling out all the soft carry cases for semi acoustics? I have a gig bag at home which seems massive to me (bought for my cheapo semi acoustic which now never leaves the house anyway!). If someone can post the extreme full length (bottom of body to end of headstock) and width (widest part of body) of the star bass I'll happily check the inside of my gig bag but I'm guessing it won't be suitable. -
Talk To Me About Musicman Basses Please.......
KevB replied to bagsieblue's topic in General Discussion
I have to admit I never really got on with mine and after a lot of extra expense trying to get it as good as it could be I decided to move it on, never regretted it. And considering it was a 4-string stingray the g wasn't that piss-weak outputwise either. -
Yep, fair comment Conan. We've all looked at youtube clips of technically gifted bedroom noodlers and wondered if they can really pull it off in front of the sweaty mob on a Saturday night under the hot lights. Well, it keeps me going anyway
As I suggested earlier, there's more to it than being an eyeball-melting slapper. :-)
Indeed, but then the particular bass bash that I'm thinking of (would have been a bassworld one I guess, one of the early Northampton gatherings long before they went regional) was thankfully fairly short of manic plank spanking. People like Dood who made me seriously consider just giving it up as a bad job

A good rule of thumb is to go to a well attended bass bash and check out how many players are better than you are. I'd been playing a while when I went to my first one and I expected to about upper 'fourth division' to use old football system parlance but once I'd been hanging around a while and listening I quickly regraded myself to Sunday morning dog and duck league standard.
