1. They shouldn't be asking you. Tell them your depping rates are three times the amount they want from you for rehearsal but you are willing to overlook the shortfall as a favour so they don't have to pay you and you're even. If they don't take the hint ask them to find someone else.
2. 3 members on Later (including V White) but it was just an interview, no performance. They were all looking their age!
3. Not a huge Genesis fan but going with a mate and his brother (who apparently is a huge Genesis fan) to the Sheffield gig on Wednesday. Pomeroy always does a solid job, seen him a couple of times with It Bites. Bit worried if the vocals are a bit cack, it's a significant part of the overrall performance for me. Should have got the guy from The Watch in, he's got Gabriel off to a tee.
4. Just don't forget come audition time that you are checking them out as much as they are checking you out. Don't be afraid to back out if they look like a shambles, it will save you time in the long run.
5. So what is the round hole in the lower horn for and does this now not differentiate MIM from US like it seemed to do at one time?
6. At least for my (so far only) sacking it was a phone call, albeit not the bandleader who seemed too spineless to carry it out and got the keyboard player to do it. I was getting frustrated by a general lack of professionalism in the band anyway so was on the point of leaving. When I got the call I jumped at the chance to move on elsewhere before he changed his mind! I found out a few months later that the keyboard player (and drummer) who had been with the band leader much longer than my brief 6 month stint had also been relieved of their duties soon after...
7. I mostly buy basses second hand and the internet has pretty much wiped out second hand sales in shops. Chances are if you see an instrument S/H in a shop now it is overpriced by default so they can't win with it, hence virtually everything I see locally in shops is new and it would have to be something very novel or difficult to get hold of S/H that piqued my interest for me to buy new.
8. Countdown to the next 'I've found this 80's P bass copy and would like to know more about where it was made and what it might be worth' thread... Good to see you back Jon
9. Just think how many doggies in the window that would get you...
10. I have a 2001 US P and this gives a decent variation in tone. My 2003 US jazz also gives variation in tone but on that it all seems to happen in the last 3rd of turn of the tone knob. Still usable though.
11. I'd never seen them and reading about Latimer's health issues I'd come to the sad conclusion I never would so when these tour dates came up I got onto it as fast as I could. Still only got about 5 rows from the back but the sound was actually pretty good though the bass lacked definition (and it looked like a Wal too!) even the bass player had a moan about it at one point.
12. Like a lot of his music, think the whole astrology stuff is as nutty as it is from anyone else but he seems to take it seriously. If I can get to Bilston to see him I will but there's a lot of gigs around at present of interest and I can't make them all. Tall Blond Helicopter is a great summertime feel good album.
13. Good show in Wolverhampton last night, no set list spoilers but played for over 2 hours so decent value. Latimer looks to be genuinely touched by how the fans have hung in there while he couldn't tour and have come out in numbers for these 4 gigs.
14. Hope Mr drums makes a full recovery, as for Geoff I've found bands to be much like buses. Nothing for a while then 2 will come up at the same time.
15. Dingus, you didn't read lowender's post? He's just playing busy rock runs over the chords, it's a piece of piss apparently
16.
I love to see people take this much care, shame the videos don't go up to the point of completion
He's a custom builder, he's not not actually finished any of them yet
17. Mr Big started out as a bit of a muso's band but then gained more general recognition after the big hit. I recall seeing them on the 'Lean Into It' tour and I think the gig was before they had released 'To Be With You' as a single from it so that song wasn't even in the set list!
18. I was getting fed up of cases piling up then I realised that with one possible exeption (not checked it yet) non of the 4 decent basses I have fit in each others cases at all and 3 of them are Fenders!
19.
My cynical side says he was disappointed with how much I won it for, and got a better sale elsewhere, and couldn't work out how to get out of the sale with me. Jus' sayin'........ Cheers guys Geoff
If that was the case he should be banned from eBay immediately, it's an auction site and the rules are clear to sellers.
20. Just to allay anyone's fears, I saw Deep Purple last night and they are not doing the jazz-lite version of SOTW live, though after the first 5 or 6 songs Gillan did say 'Well that concludes the jazz part of the show...'
21.
Glad you enjoyed it. When I was a kid, I used to love Hocus and Sylvia . However, I bought the live at the rainbow album many years ago. Hocus pocus with flute solo?? Wtf . It was soon gone . Not rock (
Can't imagine Hocus Pocus without that flute break personally. Live at the rainbow was the first full focus album I heard, still sounds great to me.
22. Seen them 2 or 3 times since their 'comeback' when basically Van Leer went out and recruited a Focus tribute as his backing band. In more recent times P van der Linden has returned on drums so its got more credibility. Off to see them in Leicester on Friday all being well then Camel in Wolverhampton on Sunday!
23.
[Pedant mode ON] No pedals :-)
Yeah I was going to mention it in an edit but the editing seems to be going a bit haywire on my system at the moment.
24. Sorry about your protracted drive home, by all means bring the rest of the band some time and have a good session, all very easy with the gear set up ready to go and someone doing the sound. I forget what proper monitoring is having to cope with my regular band!
