1. I've used half wounds on fretless for years. Great tone, most of the brightness of a round but the smoothness of a flat. They are a bit sticky to begin with but the more you play them that goes away. They won't harm the fingerboard either. D'Addarios might be best at the moment. I have always used Status halfs but they are not available at the moment and no sign if they will ever return. You could also consider Labella 760FS or D'addario chromes. Flat wound strings but with a tone to die for, much brighter than a traditional stair rod flat and the flexibility of a round. Just my experience and I'm sure others will chime in with rounds not damaging fingerboards. That's not my experience.
2. Sure you're not a bass player who plays guitar? You really do know how to play bass. Good stuff.
3. I want to miss this almost as much as the E word we're not allowed to mention here.
4.
The Font is to small...
I'm sorry, I can't read your post. The font is too small.
5.
I want a P bass but think uncovered splits are ugly... That just me? Are they crucial to the P tone?
Halleluiah! I am not alone. They just look untidy and I am not keen on the tone from them. But then, I do like a darker tone than a single coil will ever produce. There are J style pickups available that have split coils in them. They might have a slightly different tone though as the coils are end to end. The P style pickup has the coils picking up sound from slightly different parts of the string which is probably what gives the distinctive tone.
6. Don't be afraid of adjusting the trus rod. Plenty of vids on Youtube to tell you what to do. Also have a look across the flat of the face of the bass. If there is a rise around the bridge area you might have problems. That's a luthier job to sort and might be expensive. If it's flat then maybe just a tweak of the trus rod might work.
7. You're probably better to just make a patch that suits each room when you get there, maybe in the sound check. Each room will be different and even the same room will change depending on the number of people in it. Just my experience of 30 years playing live. Just be flexible.
8. I bought Paul's iPhone 6. Great condition and works a treat. Communications were quick with no hassle at all. Recommended.
9. Best looking Fender I've ever seen.
10. I think I can hear the noise you refer to. Does it just happen when you take your fingers off the strings? It sounds like a grounding issue with the bass.

Ibanez Porn
Managed to grab myself one of these beauties:
One of the prettiest single cuts on the market.
12. Marcus Bell of these parts is looking for one of these, if he hasn't been in touch already.
13. Have a look at Gary Willis' technique on YouTube. He uses exactly that to get dynamics. Gentle touch to play quietly then he can dig in a bit more at times to bring out something different.
14. Mark just bought my double bass. It is now in a good home where it will be played. Very easy to agree a price with. A gentleman and genuine bloke. Thanks Mark, enjoy the bass.
15. I play both but given the choice I would go with lines. "If lines were OK for Jaco then..." Just had to get that one in to annoy everyone. I get on OK without lines and you learn where your fingers go eventually but I do like the security of lines.
16.
Anyone know how to identify the year of Status basses? I've just come into possession of a beautiful S3 and was wondering when it was made....thanks for any help in advance 04143678
That is April 2014. 04 being April, 14 being 2014. Last 4 digits are the number of the bass.
17. 18. Like it. That's a bit of fun.
19. Two of my favourite artists from the 80s. Always the mark of a good song when it is stripped down to basics like that and still sounds just as good.
20. I'm sure you will be able to find somewhere you can challenge this. I had this same thing with a track I wrote, played and recorded myself, so no copyright for anyone. I have also had it on other videos I've posted and challenged the claim. Within seconds I have had an email saying the claim has been withdrawn. I think it is YouTube's cheeky way of putting ads in front of videos in the hope that most will not challenge it. Try the challenge and see what happens.
21.
Man this is so damn nice! It's similar to what I do but this is more melodic. Amazing what the bass is capable of!
Thank you. Most kind. Have you come across Ambient Online. Specifically about ambient music. Lots of influence and inspiration. http://www.ambientonline.org/forum/forum.php
22.
I actually use the echo effect on my pedal to create atmosphere too in between quiet sections; string scratches, harmonics, swells etc. Works really well and I rarely see any one else doing it. If this is the type of stuff you mean I'd be interested to here!
If you click on the youtube link below you can hear how I use the effects.
23. I use reverb all the time. Mind you I don't play bass in the conventional way. TC Hall of Fame and Strymon Big Sky along with all sorts of other effects. Makes some wonderful sounds but not everyone will get what I do.
