what happens if you come up with a stunningly good idea? make sure you declare that you have full copyright on your designs or better still ask whoever has set this brief whether there is any tacit implication that they (in this case the educational establishment) have automatic copyright as the task was set as part of your course work (similar principal applies frequently with employers and they often state this in employment terms of reference which you sign when you accept a position) throw them a curve ball and ask them who has copyright on ideas submitted as coursework
Steve, your big problem here (and speaking as someone who ran a music shop for a couple of years) is that you really are not going to make very much money out of that side of the market - the amateur and pub players are by far the biggest number (how many of us on here for example are MU members)?
yes i agree hence my comment about it being extremely difficult to try and predict those figures compared to the readily available stats
May be worth trying the Music Industry Association (MIA) who are the trade body for UK#s music shops. They're all probably at NAMM (or recovering from it) so I'd be leaving it for a few days though.
http://www.statista.com/statistics/319278/number-of-musicians-in-the-uk/ http://www.thecreativeindustries.co.uk/media/320723/measuring_music_2015.pdf http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/Files/Reports/Industry/The-Working-Musician-report.aspx MU you could consult their members directory to get an idea of how many are registered which would indicate how many on a pro/semipro basis as for the amateur side would be fairly tricky to guesstimate without some sort of straw poll

Gigging bassists... how many basses do you own?
steve-bbb replied to The-Ox's topic in General Discussion
Squier J Squier vmJ fretless Status Matrix Energy Sandberg Electra TT4 Yamaha TRB1004 all regulalry gigged except the Yammy which is only occasionally gigged - the blue squier J is the favourite to be honest since its been modded with wizard hammers and a j-east01 gig frequency varies from one per month if quiet during jan/feb to one or two per week when busy in summer -
iPhone Apps for bass player - (esp your fave tuner...)
steve-bbb replied to LukeFRC's topic in General Discussion
Amplitube is good for headphones (never tried the output fed anywhere else tbh) has several in app purchases for effects and amp models (you will need an iRig adapter or similar to plug in) if you have midi keyboard iRig make one that is extremely compact and does midi, xlr, and jack inputs, and some of the software synths available are pretty amazing Also not a cheap app but well worth forking out if you have multiple uses is Audiobus which allows routing configurations between multiple different apps Polytune or Ultratuner are good for tuners -
Name and shame the pub so none of us ever have to play there. Don't be British, please.
+1 It's not 'his' fkn town -
that would be my ealy 90s TE 4x10 combo (12band graphic one forget the model number) plus 1153 cab with my early 90s TRB6P (sounded great too with theStatus Matrix and the 4+6 Shergold double neck beast but the yamaha with the trace was totally outstanding)
A few years ago I had some lessons from Jennifer Clark and she really helped me out. She was right in Glasgow city centre. http://www.jenclarkmusic.com She occasionally posts on here - her username is Endorka. I notice her website no longer mentions tuition but if she's no longer teaching I bet she can recommend someone.
nice website and material there

Song retention - any tips on how to remember songs?
steve-bbb replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
However.. Trying to get For Once In My Life sorted; currently more than my brain can take.
our band suggested this as a cover for us - i told them i needed 100% commitment to them all learning it before i would learn the bass line (all 64+ unique bars of it) -
Song retention - any tips on how to remember songs?
steve-bbb replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
extremley subjective issue this unfortunately and full of paradoxes and contradictions - if you try and start comparing what the concious ear/brain does with what the sub-concious does you can sometimes end up with completely contradicting issues- hopefully trial and error will lead you to the best method which works for you not very helpful i know -
Was lucky enough to see her at Sheffield City Hall a good few years ago, and was so impressed. Also remembered seeing her in the Nelson Mandela Wembley Concert in the late 80's with a great house band doing Pink Cadillac, again really good. I believe she fought a heroin addiction for years. Such a shame to lose a wonderful talent. RIP.
the great house band was in fact none other than the late great George Duke who did a brief set as a warm up and then Natalie came on for her set - needless to say by the time she came on his band were absolutley smokin http://youtu.be/ZTw1bqDyfCo?
Strange experience today. Played an afternoon pub gig with my classic rock covers band which went rather well. Until I was approached by a man in the toilets Turns out he was the bass player with another classic rock band who came along to listen. Basically, he told me that my bass sound was sh*t and I should use an overdrive on the bass guitar albeit subtely. I dont really use effects apart from a chorus pedal and dont see the point of having the bass overdriven when we have two guitars fighting it out for supremacy. I had my Nate Mendel Precision into a Markbass CMD 121 with a NY 121 ext cab. What do you guys think? Maybe some overdrive for classic rock bass?
Should have turned towards him suddenly with a look of shock and horror and 'accidentally' pissed all over his Cuban heels
The trim pots on the East preamp do not take the output down to the same level as passive, for the same setting on the volume control. Even the lowest setting represents a significant boost. This is definitely the case for my u-Retro, can't speak for the newer models.
yes apparently so ive just taken the cover off and checked - the trim pots are as they came from the factory and are set to their minimum
Just turn the volume (on the bass) down so it doesn't clip the amp?
seems like is the remaining option - the output still seems huge in comparison to my TRB and Sandberg though
