Refused to gig last night - being unreasonable?
steve-bbb replied to BNB71's topic in General Discussion
Promoters like to see that bands turn up on time, with reliable kit, play with an air of professionalism and stay until the end of the night to support the other acts.
ah yes the old do as i say not as i do principle might get away with it if the promoter had any sort of decent reputation but at face value from comments so far this does not appear to be the case i'll grab some more popcorn and continue watching and fwiw i would have also walked and would have mad e it quite clear to the venue management that any lack of perceived professionalism should lay exclusively at the feet of the promoter hope this helps -
beer festival saturday night outdoor marquee gig - huuuge crowd quite a few of whom we managed to encourage to shake their groov thang - mainly due to the fact that the saturday night seemed to scoop up all the punters who changed their minds about going friday night because it was pi$$ing down - on a technical note i took the TRB out for a spin as i stopped gigging it many many months ago due to handling issues but since getting my hands on a tasty little dbx160a from this here sale forum the TRB now actually seems to behave itself a bit better on a downside the old age wear and tear thing is a slippery slope and am getting mightily cheesed off having a bad back after every single gig from lugging the bloody 4x10 around - it sounds awesome but my back does not agree with my ears

i liked my squier affinity J so much i splashed out on a set of wizard hammers and a j-retro pre (both preloved from basschat) for it so does that make it technically NOT a cheap bass any more?
I've never been to a jam night. I dunno. I really don't fancy it at all. I have a vision of people who know every song ever written or can just make stuff up on the spot. Both are pretty disturbing thoughts
copperfield road endlessly ad nauseam hope this helps
I'm actually surprised that they found two hit songs that weren't written by the same team of 15 writers and producers... #oldcynic
never realised it was as many as fifteen -
It's also a good story for your local press. Be all good natured about it if you talk to them, saying you think it's quite funny being confused with a bunch of schoolkids who are learning to play...
this they are teenagers so notwithstanding the fact that they do in fact 'know everything' stay low key, make sure your online presence is clearly stated (preferrably without animosity or ambiguity) and let it play it's course and see where it goes it might turn out to both your advantages then again they might just grow out of it in a couple of weeks and post all their stuff up for sale on the nearest facebook musical sale forum group OR you might all get YOUR asses royally butthurt when they advertise for a SERIOUS DEDICATED singer as they have loads of material and are about to go into the studio and have management and promotion and WILL be the next big thing well punks ... do you feel lucky?

i have had arthritic problems with my back for over 25 years now - the only time it significantly went away was when i managed for a few short months to almost completely (as far as practicably possibly) eliminate wheat and wheat based foods from my diet NSAIDS used to be taken like candy until i rattled but u;timately only really ever took the edge off it - or maybe it was also the getting too keen to resort to the fizzy and subtlly addictive paracetomol and codeine - nowadays i lay off all nsaids and only take them as a desperate last resort am currently going to go back to the wheat free thing - very slowly though - you may titter and laugh but it is possibly more difficuclt than giving up smoking! dont believe me then try it for yourself there is plenty of stuff on the interwebs for research hope this helps
Have you tried dropping Status an email? They really ought to be able to info you up!
i did phpne them recently and spoke to Dawn she was very helpful as always - i decided the only way to tell for sure was to throw them in - called up John as East-UK just to check that hooking the third active wire up to the battery would/should not cause any problems John also very helpful as always So ...... waited until one of my days off work so as not to rush.... and then couldnt find where i had tidied the spare set away - so having spent about three weeks hunting for them i finally found them today and dropped them in couple of hours later and the difference in tone is MASSIVE very pleased now finally got this old dog of a status sounding half reasonable at last

Am I the only one that gets annoyed by adverts for fake Fenders
steve-bbb replied to Kex's topic in General Discussion
I am not necessarily talking about this website but I have seen on various forums adverts for (usually) DIY or cheap looky-likey basses that someone has applied a Fender transfer to the headstock. I find it annoying, it devalues the brand and would have thought it was at best legally dubious. OK so the seller may be 'honest' to admit whats been done, but who is to say what the next owner will do. I actually have a friend who bought a Jazz bass with what is quite a well applied Fender logo, I knew the second i played it that it was not right, but he has had it for a few years and i did not have the heart to tell him. I know Alembic will not even post a replacement logo even if you have bought a bass direct from them (and they record every sale etc) you have to return the instrument to them to have it replaced - a real pain in the bum BUT I can see why they do it. Yet I often see Fender transfers for sale, even on music supplies web sites, really do not understand why Fender allow it. Rant over
not as much as eejuts who dont look after their instruments then try and pass it off as 'cool mojo relicing' first against the wall when i rule the world -
If you scroll down the Hartke Facebook page there's a comparison video of the 2x10 and 1x12 cabinets. A single 4x10 does go louder than a single 12, but a pair of 12's deliver more lows than the single 4x10. Tonally the 12's have a softer mid range than the 10's but a bit of EQ will help there.
thanks found it - quite a noticeable difference isnt there

just wondering if anybody has swapped from a hydrive 410 to a pair of hydrive 112 - just wondering what the tone and power comparison was like - am getting older and need to lighten up the rig for the sake of my aching joints and getting it easily in and out of the car/venue am currently using an LH500 head with hydrive410 - my ears are immensely pleased with it but my back isnt ! rather tempted too by the look of the new 600w class D hartke lightweight head which is being released in UK any moment now i believe ta muchly in advance

had similar ish problem with HA2500 head - sent it off to local amp tech who complete overhauled the speaker out jacks and send/return jacks which cured the problem -
Principle involved here or am I over reacting?
steve-bbb replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
Just got in from a gig. A long trip and not much money but we enjoy the place. Great crowd, up for it from start to finish. We're aware of how much the owner pays as a maximum (lower than our usual fee) but we agree to do it as it's fun. However, tonight was a little different. It was a great night and we see the owner (he's a Brit) passing round a glass, collecting "for the band" At the end of the night, we get paid our usual fee and for me, therein lies a problem. Had he not collected any money "for the band" I would have been perfectly happy with my smaller than usual, but agreed upon fee but the people putting notes into the glass were obviously under the impression that the band would benefit from it yet only the owner has because, his contribution to the cost of the band is now much smaller. He was collecting for him, not us. I see this as immoral and dishonest and no different from collecting charity donations and then keeping it. I have just told the band that I will not play there again but obviously if they want to, they can use a dep. This isn't about the money at all. It's the principle and the fact that at age 64, I no longer wish to deal with, or need to spend any time with dishonourable w***ers.
name that venue please - particularly on twitter and facebook
