Eqpt = Hartke LH500 into a Hydrive410 previously i was playing a passive J into the head via a couple of boss pedals (with levels set to match the clean signal) recently purchased on the sale forum here a nice little dbx160a rack compressor - ive tried this in line in fromt of the amp input and also in the send/return loop (where i am informed it will do its job to best effect) after i started using the comp the amp has become extremley loud - at same time i also loaded a j-east01 preamp into the J so the output from that is now rather massive - i tried turning down the input gain on the comp but it still frreequently flashes into the orange and red on the comp - indeed the first time i gigged it i did start to experience what i thought at the time was power amp break up possibly where the whole preamp signal was driving the power amp too hard - i gigged it a second time and turned down the input gain on the comp but still clips into red - the only way to stop the comp from clipping into the red seems to be reducing the master vol on the guitar do i need to adjust the trim pots on the active eq - is it likely that the signal from the guitar is the cause and not the amp.comp? ta muchly
Of course all music is totally subjective but what I've heard of Jaco Pastorius has been a total let down compared to what I've heard from word of mouth. Granted, I've only heard some of the most well known tracks and to me it was just disjointed... It sounded like I'd just walked into any guitar shop in the world... Aimless noodling... Anyone got any suggestions that may change my mind?
pretty much anything of his material with joni mitchell - she was his sort of muse and saw the 'original' in him and gave him masses of leeway creatively (and socially it would seem) within her closest circle way too much material to choose from so im going to put this up here because it is beautifully sublime and simple http://youtu.be/N0MwObE-OC4
While I am no fan of Mr. Bieber, he should be given due credit for having singles at numbers 1,2 and 4 in the charts. That is a very impressive, if not unparalleled, achievement.
why credit him? why not the writers producers and marketing team? in the big shceme of things he probably comes quite low down the list of talent/skill/endeavour credits list after all those in the background who keep him in the spotlight just mho of course

Gigging and the costs - what would you do in this situation?
steve-bbb replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
so many parameters but then as you say if you are playing orifinal prog metal then many of the variables will undoubtedly be rather constrained to reiterate an earlier comment if you can affort it and think its worth it go for it - just think of it finacnially as another night out and put the expense issue to one side and go out and enjoy yhe gig if the cost is going to be constantly gnawing away as your overriding concern then id personally suggest kick it into touch hope this helps -

Trouble playing octaves - could it be a thumb placement issue?
steve-bbb replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
Cheers! If nothing else it's good to know that it is not just me that finds it tricky. It seems simple when I stop and look at it, yet getting the notes to all sound clean, clear and in perfect time is hard work. Well, looks like I know what I am going to be practicing this morning.
dont fret too much about 'clean' at first it might sound clanky while youre practising but youd be surprised how many isolated bass track of 'name players' also sound clanky when put in a harsh spotlight but as JT says above you will deffo get a different feel between the thumb/1st and 1st/2nd finger technique - if you can get the right groove and feel with the 1/2 technique then imho this would be preferrable over the thumb/1st technique even at the cost of a bit of rattling and clanking - after all who else at a gig is going to spot it other than a bunch of nitpicking bass players ed - and if youre in the sort of band who's gig success relies on getting people on their feet and shaking their groove thang then def go for the 1st/2nd string skipping technique -
Power ballad sentimental warblings about being dumped is not something I'm interested in regardless of how well done it might be. Can't argue with the sales figures though.
this - and sales figures as we all know bear no correlation whatsoever with talent but she is obviously vocally talented - which presents a slight conundrum but as you say Darren ... still cant listen to her with seeing pictures in my head of Glenn Close and that certain 'cookery incident'

Trouble playing octaves - could it be a thumb placement issue?
steve-bbb replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
give the thumb technique a go at first and eventually you will pick up speed although its as much an agility issue as it is speed imho - used to struggle like anything a few years ago with all that donna summer octave stuff and initially used to do it with the thumb and 1st finger method but gradually you pick up speed and get on top of it - although i must admit it does seem to be one of the areas where it does take a considerable amount of time and repetition to achieve the final result -
Well yeah, it had to come from someones stash.
why so? if you were compiling something where you were asking 5$ for a song download as a profitable ongoing business i would start by researching what would be the most likely and popular tracks rather than my personal preference
