Was lucky enough to see her at Sheffield City Hall a good few years ago, and was so impressed. Also remembered seeing her in the Nelson Mandela Wembley Concert in the late 80's with a great house band doing Pink Cadillac, again really good. I believe she fought a heroin addiction for years. Such a shame to lose a wonderful talent. RIP.
the great house band was in fact none other than the late great George Duke who did a brief set as a warm up and then Natalie came on for her set - needless to say by the time she came on his band were absolutley smokin http://youtu.be/ZTw1bqDyfCo?
Strange experience today. Played an afternoon pub gig with my classic rock covers band which went rather well. Until I was approached by a man in the toilets Turns out he was the bass player with another classic rock band who came along to listen. Basically, he told me that my bass sound was sh*t and I should use an overdrive on the bass guitar albeit subtely. I dont really use effects apart from a chorus pedal and dont see the point of having the bass overdriven when we have two guitars fighting it out for supremacy. I had my Nate Mendel Precision into a Markbass CMD 121 with a NY 121 ext cab. What do you guys think? Maybe some overdrive for classic rock bass?
Should have turned towards him suddenly with a look of shock and horror and 'accidentally' pissed all over his Cuban heels
The trim pots on the East preamp do not take the output down to the same level as passive, for the same setting on the volume control. Even the lowest setting represents a significant boost. This is definitely the case for my u-Retro, can't speak for the newer models.
yes apparently so ive just taken the cover off and checked - the trim pots are as they came from the factory and are set to their minimum
Just turn the volume (on the bass) down so it doesn't clip the amp?
seems like is the remaining option - the output still seems huge in comparison to my TRB and Sandberg though

Be warned good basschat folks this whole Santa thing is one giant marketing scam I had to go buy my own Christmas bass - and rather lovely it is too
In a similar manner, perhaps the original faux pas by the creator of this topic is, maybe, now forgotten..? One may hope...
Look to politicians for clues for they are the masters of forgetfulness and distraction -
My late hubby put up with me commandeering a whole room for my music and a whole room for my art! .... but then I had put up with 30 years of bike bits all around the house and cylinder heads in the oven on many occasions I never complained, that was just part of who he was
This always works best -

No worse than some people's attempts at relicing and adding mojo

Sid Vicious - undervalued bass innovator?
steve-bbb replied to upside downer's topic in General Discussion
most of those are down to him being strung out on heroin.
Anita O'Day managed it like a pro when she was off her tits Guess he was just being lazy then ;-) -
Fender switched to poly sometime during 1969. They did, however, overspray the headstock decals with nitro for quite a dew years after that. If memory serves maybe 1976 or 77, but I wouldn't swear to either of those.
Thanks that is about the year of this one am guessing it could be poly then as I did often wonder that it was a bit soft for nitro , but as you say the headstock does appear glossier than the rest so maybe this explains

Sid Vicious - undervalued bass innovator?
steve-bbb replied to upside downer's topic in General Discussion
underrated innovator? personally i always thought of him as a bit of a gobby chancer -
sorry without the pic the best way to describe is the lacquer has gone patchy and cloudy not sure how as it has been kept in dry cupboard in spare bedroom for long time im guessing is a nitro finish (?) as i'm not aware of many polyurethane finishes back in mid 70s thanks for link will have a look

good afternoon basschatters any clues as to how to best deal with blooming (if that is the correct term) lacquer? its an old early/mid 70s Fender F-15 acoustic and curiously the headstock is the only place suffering from this ta muchly edit- scuse photo lackage am grappling with the re-arranged dropbox
What you really want is for your bass to sound passive and exactly as it was before until you decide otherwise and start either changing the level (boost and/or cut) or changing the sound (tone-shaping). In theory (and usually in practice too) it is possible to set the controls of an on-board preamp so that they effectively "do nothing". That gives you a reliable, flat platform from which to start using the preamp. If I were you, I'd set the preamp knobs to as flat as you can, then set the trim knobs to produce exactly the same volume as if there was no preamp fitted.
marvellous - thanks will give it a go later when i find the teenie screwdrivers possible trip to maplins as i need to buy a little battery tag connector as the one in the yammy just bust so another little soldering job
