1. quite nice innit
 2.
I think flats lend themselves particularly well to both Precision basses and especially fretless basses. Any jazzy or dub or early rock n roll tone and you are virtually 90% there. I appreciate they have their haters but try them for yourself, I say. I use rounds on my Gibson because they don't suit every situation but they do have a place in modern music.
not hating on flats - they have a certain timbre which lends itself perfectly to certain situations BUT those situations are often very limited - so for the sake of versatility unless you have the luxury of having two fretless basses then rounds or halfs are probably the more versatile option
 3. also depends on what type of bass the fretless is? if its a high end high value type of thing you might want to keep it as pristine as possible so flats or halfs would be the sensible choice to minimise damage to the board - however if tis something at the lower end then try with rounds and see what you think - personally my fretless is only a squire vmJ so not too bothered about the board wear to be honest - i have sanded it down once but there is 'minimal' string marking from the rounds on there now after about a years worth of occasional playing and even that is so slight as to be not noticable from more than three feet away and certainly doesnt affect the sound - if you do get some marks and you want to get rid of them you can always attack it with some light grade papers on a radius sanding block once you get drummed in to your head to NEVER BEND THE STRING and only use the sideways vibrato technique you shouldnt have too many issues hope this helps
 4. i tried some of those black nylon coated flats once ... dull as ditch water bring on the rounds i say and growl away

 7.
Forgot to say that I started wearing ear protection a few months ago. It seems that it is almost universal that rehearsal rooms have ludicrously massive equipment. Not only rediculously loud for the room but a waste of space.... I do think that it is a lead guitarist thing in general.
yes and yes whyTAF do you need a 100w head and 4x12 cab in a rehearsal studio??? also from experience of a previous guitarer in our band i always suspected that he wasnt intentionally turning up all the turning but possibly more likely that his hearing was compromised in that mid range and the fact he was persistently turning up all the time was more to do with the fact that he was having trouble hearing it in the mix due to his own hearing response
 8. you cant try and equate the two environments and expect to achieve same results - just treat each one on its own merits and adjust accordingly i find the biggest issue to be with effects and the more extreme the effect the more extreme the difference - i find that if you set up a nice effect whilst practising at home the blasted thing rarely if ever works just like you want it to in live/gigging environment

 12.
If I was in a more contemparary setup playing chart sh*te its possible we might get to play in pubs for a younger crowd although I don't know if such places exist that want live music (or old men playing chart stuff!)
if you dont know, and you havent tried, you might end up finding out that there is fees to be found

 15.
Pretty sure the East preamps have a trim pot, but on mine, still doesn't go as low gain as passive (U-Retro).
i have three easts and they are all trimmed to the lowest setting and are still extremley pokey - the only one i dont have is on the status on the bridge pickup is trimmed higher to boost volume and keep the pickup a reasonable distance from strings because it is so much closer to the bridge than most other basses that said i have yamaha and sandberg also both active but the output on them is nowhere near as powerful as the easts - ive just compromised and sort of figured out roughly where the volume pot should be and keep my fingers crossed would a trim pot across the output be literally connected up across the hot and ground? ta
