1.
I'd probably find that easier and more palatable than 25 blues numbers;)
+1 i can happily play both but i find chris squire's lines very easy to remember - blues stuff i find harder to learn and rememebr because the variations are more subtle
 2. ... and undoubtedly one of the best guitar talents to shine forth from our sceptered isle (despite the dodgy platforms) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boTY_7VYoYU
 3.
Also FWIW I once took a pair of basses to a recording session - a stock Squier Jazz strung with flats and a '91 Thumb bass with Rotos on it. I tracked everything on the Squier because I'd decided that was the sound I wanted and I'd only taken the Warwick as a backup. When the engineer saw the Warwick lying in the corner he looked worried as if someone else had left it there, and when I told him it was mine he asked me to re-track everything with that. In the end we used the Warwick track for one song and the Squier tracks for everything else. The engineer was pushing to use the Warwick tracks for everything but everybody in the band thought the Squier sounded more appropriate in most cases. I guess we weren't as swayed by the price tag as the engineer was.
sounds like a good argument for keeping the engineers in a room where they cant actually see what is going on in the studio - it would sort out the ones with good ears and good ideas from the brands bitches who just parrot fashion dial in the same old tones again and again
 4.
Shows how doss they are to sell the kit to a local muso shop!! Even most thieving scum will head off to Crack Converters or a pawn shop. Only ever had one thing nicked and that was an HH amp head (back in the day) nicked from a weekend residency venue. There was only one guy in Edinburgh who handled hot kit openly and I popped up at his shop on the Monday after the theft and there was the amp, complete with serial number and Dymod serial number from shop of purchase. The clown had even given his real name and address to the shop-owner so the cops lifted him. I never got the amp back cos the crook owner (Boston's, anyone??) said he'd bought it in good faith (right, mate!) and had paid well over the odds for it, or so his books said.Though I was a dole-mole heavy metal kid in those days I flatly refused to pay what the shylock was asking and borrowed amp heads until I got an Acoustic 330 at a good price.
if the police arrested the thief then they should have also recovered your stolen property from the shop and restored it to you - it is not the property of the shop owner even if he did buy it in good faith
 5.
I've always found Precision pickups really uncomfortable and unstable to rest on. Worse, in my soul band I end up putting so much pressure on the pickup that I'm constantly pushing it down into the foam and altering the gap between string and pickup. A thumbrest is a much better idea, IMHO.
totlally agree with the P pickup thing - fortunately for me my J and TRB have just the right pickups at just the right places for my right hand edit - you have stone cladding too!
 6.
I don't like thumb rests.
me too - isnt that what pickups are for???
 7. bugger the VM's - ive got an affinity - its even cheaper - and its the nuts
 8.
I guess the main point coming out here is we don't like playing out of our comfort zone. As said above we probably are best placed to change keys with least mental work than on other instruments.
its not just this though - its one thing a key change of a semitone or two to accomodate a vocal range but often once you get past three semitone jumps the whole sound and character of the tune is changed

 13. you can get duff strings producing strange harmonics too - i currently have a duff D string producing a very prominent harmonic when playing the open string its the harmonic that you can find between the second and third fret but it rings on the open string and loud enough to notice both acoustically and a bit through the amp too - swapped the string around different guitars and tested it thinking it was a high fret or dodgy nut but turned out it was the string all along
 14. i think that as corny and cheesy ben elton's 'we will rock you' is, it has quite a ring of accurate intuition about it - there will always be a mass market for overproduced/undertalented pap whilst at the same time there will be a discerning group who prefer the 'real thing' - as long as both continue along simultaneously that will be fine - i would be extremley concerned if either one were to disappear!
 15.
I say this all the time, but studying music at University has to be one of the silliest ideas going these days. It's a lovely thing to do if you have no aspirations to own a house or get a job, but in the real world, a music degree is as much use to an employer as as a wad of used toilet paper. You might enjoy indulging your hobby for a couple of years but beyond university and the meagre pickings of the music world you'll not have much to show for the colossal debt you've accrued.
i guess university didnt work out for you then?
 16. my friends in jeebusland would call this "hipster douchebag" being generous as i am i just call it mediocre
 17. i emailed hartke tech/customer support asking about compatibility.... Steve, Thanks for supporting Hartke products. Ideally you'll want to purchase the LH1000 so the cabinets get maximum power. Regards,
 18. which arm? the fingering arm or the plinky arm? possibly a positional/posture thing with your arm tennis elbow usually is in the elbow and the ligaments and tendons around it and often results from some sort of misuse - i used to get it badly from playing squash until i improved my racket swing
 19. first port of call is check out joinmyband.com and similar local websites (and your local muso shop noticeboard etc) - ive nearly approached a couple of local bands but then decided against it after a cursory check reveals that they are constantly and repeatedly advertising for band members
 20.
I always get this wrong so I'd check with paypal but effectively someone somewhere within the transaction will be paying to use the paypal service.
i just used paypal to purchase an item from the forum here and whilst completing the transaction it did give the choice of whether i wished to pay the fees or the other party was paying the fees im sure someone will correct me if im wrong but recently i didnt notice the 'gift' option - seems like paypal may have pulled that as too many people using it to avoid declaring the fees correctly??
