What exactly do you mean by "Googling" it in this context? Do you just put the name of the process into Google and see what comes up?
absolutley - just type the process name into google and you will get pages of results of explanations regarding the process and its functions
I've used FreeStudio for ages & (so far) it's been perfectly OK, but Avast! checks everything on download & has prevented one or two from happening, but this always gets the OK. but +1 on the above. G.
i too have avast and recently downloaded/ripped some yewchube vids to mp3 - it wasnt until later until i had need to open up windows task manager that i spotted a process running and googled it to find it was malware installed by the converter that didnt get caught by avast

in answer to your original question there is no real answer is there? to get good at both would require a lot of practice and research - and with regards to discipline isnt it purely down to the amount of self-discipline they have? you could teach somebody slap technique exactly like VW but then they would need the self discipline to keep repeatedly practising it over and over until its perfect
It does make me wonder how some bass players think if Im honest. I have had this same chat with other players. Some say you have the John Pattitucci or Jaco style of fingering that would blown anyone away but then others have said people like Victor Wooten, Miller, Larry Graham, Stu Hamm their style are forces to be reckoned with.
wearing a pair of adidas boots doesnt mean you can bend it like beckham why copy someones style when what you really need is to observe how people play and help them develop their own style?

if you download any of the free mp4 > mp3 converters then check your machine afterwards for spyware/malware - odds are there will be something lurking on your hard drive you wouldnt have knowingly invited

just a further edit/bump to clarify the repair on the pic above you can see a largish cylindrical silver eletrolytic capacitor - this is the item which failed due to age and to me inadvertently loading it up with 9v battery direct without bringing up to voltage slowly - this component has been replaced with a new capacitor of the same rating/value. my friend who is the electronic engineer responsible for the repair has told me that the function of this particlar capacitor is to regulate and smooth the power supply from the battery - consequently it has no function as part of the amp/tone circuitry and does not affect the sound at all the part was probably ok but was possibly damaged by me inadvertently just by plugging a 9v battery in to test the unit - it should ideally have been loaded up with a very low voltage and stepped up very slowly over several hours back to its operational voltage - something to do with the capacitor losing all its charge and polarity when left in storage without being used for a very long time i dont have a six string thing any more but tested it using my squier J and trace boxer65 and it is in full working order ta -

do you still have the piece that became detached? a careful application of decent wood glue and clamping carefully in place and then cosmetic retouching afterwards should not be too problematic as long as the detached section is in one piece?
Scott Thunes on Dupree's Paradise from Make a Jazz Noise Here. 65 P Bass, played with a pick, some chorus into a Trace I think.
personally i prefer the original rendition of the picked P bass (but neither are my favourite zappa bassist but thats a whole different thread!) we recently did a little gig at local pub and just for a change we threw in a bossa version of teenage kicks went straight over everyones head - like we became the invisible band for 3 minutes - it amused us though
He sounded pretty much the same at the Dublin gig a few months ago.
maybe he has developed a cunning vocal technique of emulating the auto-tune i saw them on the permanent waves tour at hammersmith odeon and thought they were great but then i was young and impressionable
