1.
I guess the main point coming out here is we don't like playing out of our comfort zone. As said above we probably are best placed to change keys with least mental work than on other instruments.
its not just this though - its one thing a key change of a semitone or two to accomodate a vocal range but often once you get past three semitone jumps the whole sound and character of the tune is changed

 6. you can get duff strings producing strange harmonics too - i currently have a duff D string producing a very prominent harmonic when playing the open string its the harmonic that you can find between the second and third fret but it rings on the open string and loud enough to notice both acoustically and a bit through the amp too - swapped the string around different guitars and tested it thinking it was a high fret or dodgy nut but turned out it was the string all along
 7. i think that as corny and cheesy ben elton's 'we will rock you' is, it has quite a ring of accurate intuition about it - there will always be a mass market for overproduced/undertalented pap whilst at the same time there will be a discerning group who prefer the 'real thing' - as long as both continue along simultaneously that will be fine - i would be extremley concerned if either one were to disappear!
 8.
I say this all the time, but studying music at University has to be one of the silliest ideas going these days. It's a lovely thing to do if you have no aspirations to own a house or get a job, but in the real world, a music degree is as much use to an employer as as a wad of used toilet paper. You might enjoy indulging your hobby for a couple of years but beyond university and the meagre pickings of the music world you'll not have much to show for the colossal debt you've accrued.
i guess university didnt work out for you then?

 11. which arm? the fingering arm or the plinky arm? possibly a positional/posture thing with your arm tennis elbow usually is in the elbow and the ligaments and tendons around it and often results from some sort of misuse - i used to get it badly from playing squash until i improved my racket swing
 12. first port of call is check out joinmyband.com and similar local websites (and your local muso shop noticeboard etc) - ive nearly approached a couple of local bands but then decided against it after a cursory check reveals that they are constantly and repeatedly advertising for band members
 13.
I always get this wrong so I'd check with paypal but effectively someone somewhere within the transaction will be paying to use the paypal service.
i just used paypal to purchase an item from the forum here and whilst completing the transaction it did give the choice of whether i wished to pay the fees or the other party was paying the fees im sure someone will correct me if im wrong but recently i didnt notice the 'gift' option - seems like paypal may have pulled that as too many people using it to avoid declaring the fees correctly??
