I use schallers with a touch of loktite and have never had a problem.
+1 C'mon guys it aint rocket science...... 1 drop of Loctite.....

Now you've got me stumped- I cant see it being a dead spot or it shoudl eb the same with teh other amp.... can you try another head.... so same bass lead and cab but different head?

What are the benefits of an active circuit?
The Burpster replied to smurfitt's topic in Bass Guitars
Switching in and out whilst playing just gets you aloud pop and more output... Why would you want to....? My PRSs are switchable but I use them with it on in the active input on my Mesa.... or in teh passive input with it off and no its doesnt sound teh same..... Has far more depth with it on.... My active Fender P is a nightmare when its on but beautful when played as a pasive P ..... My (new to me) Ovation is only active (pluging in the jack activates the preamp) and is just superb..... If you have a weak amp or are playing lightyears away from it then, active is means to an end but it is necassary? Nope... A more verastile amp and pre amp (even a valve driven preamp stomp box) make more difference than adding an active cricuit ....IMHO of course... -
In fariness he has changed it in teh listing body..... Just another dense guitarist........ What would we do without them as entertainment eh?
-
New in January but how old are they? I have bought new basses that havve been on display for 4 yrs! Does your J have a pre amp fitted? It only does it on the D string and not on the G when playing the same notes? If so try string first and if that deosnt do it sounds like a dead spot-- Other thing what main amp and what practice amp?
-
They should be std pots so tentatively yes to the knobs.... A string sounds like that classic "Fender straight head insufficient break angle thing" Normally (easily) solved by fitting new strings leaving LOADS of extra string at the tuner and back winding it down as close to the headstock to increase the break angle over the nut..... Alternatively fit another string tree to catch all 3 strings......

When did someone put a big notice on BC saying 'Sell Here'?
The Burpster replied to warwickhunt's topic in Site News
It could be worse. You could find that someone joins the forum, doesn't play bass, has nothing to sell, spouts drivel constantly and then won't bog off
Ahhhh but we like drink laden floosiees......! -
Old strings ? when did you change them last? Has it always done it or started just recently? Do you have adjustable pole pups?
-
I thought you were happy with the new ones?

For not a lot of money you could upgrade the electrics on what you have (if you feel up to it!) Skills progressing and need a new bass to reflect it....? how so? Play the ass off that one (as you like it) and if its not performing somewhere sound/output/tone, just improve those parts.... (Herbie Flowers one of thh most respected session bassist in the UK has had one jazz bass his entire career all 30 odd years of it!) You say you hate your amp... what is it? if you play plugged in a lot you will be gobsmacked what a 1/2 decent amp can do.... Way too many folk on here get hung up about what bass they should be playing yet the rest of thier gear is way behind and is also WAY down the list of priorites to upgrade.... I'd put money on you being able to slowly upgrade the electrics on teh bass and getting a better amp and leads will give you exaclty what you want...... Until some point down the line you will know EXACTLY what you want, bass and backline wise.... If you need any help or advise drop down to the Repairs and tech forum.. we are freindly in there!

Mind you thinking about it, the 5 way I put in my guitarists Strat was from the same supplier and thats not been quite right either..... Just goes to show stuff in a Fender pkt isnt always top kit!

Dave, Whilst that twin from Maplin isn't cheap, it would make a fantastic start for the effects loop? BTW what braided sheath did you use? I can blagg Blk Nylon stuff from my dads old employer (the stuff they used to make up welding cables with- same idea different leads....) but wondered if you had some 'pretty' stuff... ? Bob.
