Warwick SSI 5er pick up problems
The Burpster replied to carlosfandango's topic in Repairs and Technical
Whilst I find it hard to belive that somone could fry a set of Barts its not beyond possibilty (de-magnetized them!) .. have you checked the output of the Barts? -
Sam, the guage will not make a difference to the min hieght the strings are from the frets. It wil be the same for any set of strings as long as they are not worn where they pass over the nut..... What will change is the relationship of differing string gauges to the rest of the instrument.(Neck pups and bridge) The height of the strings at the bridge, The amount of relief on the neck And the intonation. All 3 of these are highly likely to change with diferent gauges. The more you tell us the more I'm becoming certain that you need a truss rod adjustmnet to increase the relief....

are there any cheap retro / vintage looking basses?
The Burpster replied to wengus's topic in Bass Guitars
It would help if you define what your idea of 'retro looking' is.... Because of course one mans retro is another mans vomit inducer! -
Graphtech will be closest to your original sound. Be careful with it and it wont break... Brass is indeed bullet proof but WILL change the tone of the bass.... An option you haven't mentioned is Bone... very hard and will sound more like your original nut than brass. FYI i'm fitting a Graphtec to my P project..
for some reason the mods dont seem to have problems with members joining just to sell stuff, personally it really pisses me and several other loyal members right off...
Sorry, but I take exception to that:- as it pi55es me off to. I have tried on several occasions to advocate different methods to prevent someones 1st post being a sale post.... However this is a democratic site and the MAJORITY are ok with it..... not neccasarily the mods.

Cash is not acceptable?!?!?!
The Burpster replied to thedarxide's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
How odd.... I've done several deals where I've met the person and paid in readies.... When has that come in? seems like they (ebay) are trying to dictate how you buy it? Can they do that? Incidently I may have a pop at the Ashbory as its Black and I fnacy a noodle with one.... Anyone got an idea of how much they should fetch 2ndhand? bob. -

Buying used and paying new prices
The Burpster replied to niceguyhomer's topic in General Discussion
And its a correct principle.... I try Dr Daves approach.... But its shop solid can't you knock some off fer that? Normally met by- "dunno mate" I say- "well go ask the manager" If the managers noty prepared to shift it then you point out that you'll just have to buy from Thomans then... got some great discounts on little bits doing that ---- Sound Control respond best to that approach! -
Whatever mate, why would you buy that and then just sell it on?
Actually you maybe looking too deep here.... he's obviously a dealer of sorts (check out his other stuff) and my guess is that he bough it as a project and then when he found out how much the bits would be (Status are not cheap in the US) he's had a coronery and decided to sell it on ... You can see teh impact mark where its hit teh deck after being swung by the neck..... Actualy I'm impressed how little teh carbon chassis appears to have suffered That being said a close inspection might reveal teh truth!

Guys, Anyone in Dorset can help Sam out before he trolls off to shop and gets fleeced!

wouldnt a cheap flight to and from London for a day so you can visit the Gallery be more efficient in time and money than buying and selling some that you dont like/get on with? just a thought....
-
Morning Chris, didnt think you'd be able to resist this thread....!
-
I'm surprised they still haven't done a Steve Irwin tribute Stingray...........
-
Looks like some bassist did a Pete Towshend or jimi Hendrix on it.... How odd.
-
It SOUNDS from your post like this is the 2st time you've changed strings on this bass? (changed from std strings) I really very much doubt that you have doen anyting to the nout unless you've been at it with a file.... Most factory made basses have notoriously high nuts- not low ones, so this sounds much more like a set up issue as pointed out above.

Phil Jones Suitcase 300/4B Cab - £30 BIN
The Burpster replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
You got all excited didnt you.... ? -
CK et al, That sounds spot on to me it will make it easier to follow as well, it wasnt my intent for the ebay threads JUST to be for ebay basses....... Why not use it for other online sites and other equipment other than basses.....(for which some already have) B.
-
indeed- I'd heard reports that the B wasn't all that good- that sounded great
I wonder from whom you've heard that, and if they've actually played one? As much as I try to avoid getting sucked into the 'Fender worship' vat of despair... I cannot see Fender releasing a lemon! Nice bit of playing BTW....

I also forgot Jackson..... http://www.jacksonguitars.com/products/sea...?section=basses

Just found this which I've PMd to KR and is actaully quite a good read.. nothng left unsaid in this! http://www.articlekarma.com/Article/Unders...-Neck-Shim/8660
a playing card or piece of acetate wouldnt have done it.the bridge in question was 3.5 mm thicker than the one that came with the bass so i figured thats how much higher the neck needed to be.
Yes it would, you only put it at the body end of the neck socket creating an angle between neck and body that changes the realationship of the neck to the body.... if he knows anything about basses he would know this! Cant remember if your new bass ( ) is shimmed now or was before but it certainly has been ! made no difference!
-
In my experience neck shimming makes little if no difference to sustain if done properly... Sounds to me the whole neck has been 'raised' and not what we know and love as shimming. How do you tell if its done properly when so many different resources give differing advice....? Tell him to pay for the shipping back and you'll give him a refund for what he paid originally sending it to him. Or better still if he knows anything about basses he should be able to shim it properly himself why is he causing a fuss?! Sounds like he's trying it on--- and does he think mentioning he's a lawyer makes any difference?
