AUGHHH bob what have you done to me!
You started it...... J, you Cant go to all that trouble with a complete rebuild and NOT finish it as well.... There must be someone near you with an airbrush and if not send it here and I'll do it.... Order a big chunk of 3mm Lexan and lets have a play....
-
What pups are they? could you get some silver covers..... (stop me I'm on a roll here!) SILVER pup covers and silver under the clear guard fading away (to match teh BA) )and, black fading from the control cavity PS above art shoppie idea is getting there but my thoughts were a tighter fade around the pup cavity maybe a max of 10mm fading into the clear.....? it'll never look right with a big line around it... take that off as thats what the finished article will look like.... How about just doing a pro job of applying the aluminuim foil to teh rear of teh clear plate in a sweet pattern, that'll look semi mirrored if done well...... again just a pattern around the pups and control cavity..... Slapping a solid colour plate over that paint job (Like a PRS 10 top ) would be sacriledge... IMO
Having said all that, I do have a Wal, so I'm probably a bass snob just by virtue of owning that
Nik, buying quality gear doesnt mean your a snob does it? Have I got it wrong? Oh Sh1t what am I then with my little band of warriors?
-
Ahh but thats the rub. Its only as clear as you want it be.... You can fade the blagk out as much as you want..... the purple would then fade into the black.... Why no likeee clear?
-
OK, how about a clear one with just a layer of black base coat on the inside over the pot cavity to hide the electrics, and a ligth fade around the P pup to hide teh ugly cavity......... + black screws.... Now I'm thinkin outside the box..... ooooh I'm getting excited

My two are EB IVs (2000-2004) bolt on neck model- this is one of the ORIGINAL Bass 4 neck thru 1986- 91 models. This is the first all white one I've seen..... -
Jobie, Thought of spraying a PG to match it.....? On reflection that would look cooler than a polar bears testicles!
-
Roland cube 100x.... Undoubtedly perfect for your specifications inyour OP

My guitarist is trying to extend my interest into one of these, so I can flit from bass to rythym guitar parts. I believe its unlikley to happen, as I'd rather aim to be master of one trade as opposed to jack of all trades. (I could maybe go for the idea of a twin neck) However its an interesting insturment ..... so would this class as ERB or just an odd ball hybrid? Ahhhhhh Danialson..... PRoK firewood..... -
Dont use std twist drills, you need wood bits as twist drills large enough to fit the metal cups will rip the wood not cut it cleanly. Fitting a bridge isnt rocket science as long as you are good with engineering and wood. Mark an average length of string (A+D string) alonside the bridge lightly on masking tape stuck to the body before you take off the old bridge, or use verniers to measure the saddle to mounting hole relationship (my method) . Doing the routing for string thru body is not so easy, its much easier to go for a top loading bridge, and its very difficult to tell the difference anyway(tonally) IMO.

Jono... Ta bud. I'm quite excited! As for the Tort...... I still have it but with the jack socket moved it has too many holes! For sale (both redundant!) ... one tort and one white P bass scratch plates!
-
Very sad underwhelming place. Ignorant staff. Far to many nice basses in one place to be staffed my uniterested unintersting people. Been once wont be going back!

Catchy title eh... So wassis about then...? Well after taking my "pimp my bass" skills to another level with the Ibanez Blazer, http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4324&hl=teaser (now in the loving and trusted hands of Pete!) I thought it that if I was going to do a P bass and get seriously jiggy with it then I'd have to do it properly. How can you do that if you dont start with a US P...? well IMO you cant. So if I'm going to get anything made by Fender that plays anywhere near as good as my PRSs, then its going to have be seriously pimped (even my custom shop P hasnt got that -- something--). So take one very young (Nov 2007) Highway One P.. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...ender+precision And ditch everything except the neck and body. Go shopping...... 1. Black Hipshot A style Bridge 2. Black Hipshot Ultralight clover tuners x3 3. Black Hipshot Ultralight Clover D tuner 4. Black Hipshot 3 string tree 5. Graphtec Trem nut 6. Gotoh black chrome jack plate 7. Fender black neck plate. 8. Bartolini 8CBP pick ups. 9. switchcraft electrics 10. custom made (by me) 5 ply black pickguard. 11. Black Schaller strap locks Neck wasn't as straightforward as I'd wished as I had to make aluminium shims for the headstock holes.. bummer. Plugged existing tuner holes with Maple levelled and matt varnished. Fitted shims and new tuners. and string tree. Polished frets but they didnt need levelling as its too new to have any significant wear! Body- rout new hole for side exit jack, plug old bad ass bridge holes and level and paint. Fit new bridge and jack plate, and Barts. Just gotta make the scratchplate- (tomorows job) and finish the wiring..... Pics when finished!
The J pup gives me the slap tone I need. The P just doesn't do it alone when slapping. For fingerstyle and pick stuff the J is rolled off.
Aaaaaahhhh so your a self-confessed slapper eh? We try to avoid such frivolity on Ps....

With a good PUP and good rig,you don't need the J-PUP, trust me smile.gif

The Beedsters spot on there! ^^^^

Why? it shows you can achieve a nice low action on a 2HB....... Bl**dy hell if hes showing of with an action like that i'd steer well clear! I'd give up if I couldnt get it any better than that!
