1. The woodwork will be pretty much the same as a US.... The hardware maybe not be as good but its upgradeable..... If you like it go for it....
2. tyler, as another WS owner.... 1 piece of advice might be to check the output options before ordering. I got mine second hand (112) and its a 4ohm. If I were to order a new one I'd get an 8ohm 115 so I could run a 2nd cab (2x10) from it without taking the amp out! Just my thoughts..... FYI ----- You will not be dissapointed..... One of the few bits of gear that I own that is not on an 'upgrade/ for sale at the right money' list ......' Tone is incredible, and full of surprises and its easily luggable.
3. I'll give you my Cube 30 and £100 for it....
4. You need big Watts to shift big speaker cones. You need big speaker cones to shift a lot of air. You need to shift a lot of air to produce good clear low frequencies. You need to produce good low frequencies for bass. Or.... We're blokes + we like lotsa power!
5. I think the only bit of that add that maske sense is the sellers name....!
6. ^^^^ perfect..... what he said !
7. And I would NEVER try and get away with it...... !
8. I'M no expert but just had a look in teh Blue book. they were made between 1961-82 as Wlikins then Watkins and then W.E.M. The bass it would seem is quite rare. G-plan (furniture) were employed at some point in this history to produce the woodwork. No Ideas of a value but I'd treat it like a Shergold.
9. I thought they just made tennis and golf bats and the like.....
10.
damn it...I feel I'm being lured to the dark side...
Luke, I am your Father..... Come with me to the Dark side....... Together we will rule the universe father and son.....
11. Aaaaahha so now your talking a little less limited...... Also I guess it depends wht you mean by 'classic styling' if you mean Fender shape body and head, your going to struggle unless you go custom..... 12. I think you can do it.... ( I have a 30X) by using the EFX out and line in. IIRC the line in (I used mine mostly for MP3) doesnt go through the pre-amp. Email Roland (or ring them) they are OK, dont tell 'em you want to rip it apart tho'.....
13. Most of the major parts for MIM Fenders are actually made in the US plant so dont be put off if VFM is what you want. The neck is likely to be very similar to a US one but not finished as well. The body may be made of 2-3 pieces of wood rather than 1-2 as a US. The hardware may not be as good but thats all easily changed. That kind of money sounds like a no brainer to me... Get one and pimp it....!
14. Pete, FYI- D'add arent the only maker to produce 1/2 rounds but they are the only make I've tried.! they are pretty consistant and I KNOW they are less bright than round, and slightly brighter than flats! Bob. Even found you some.... 15. You could do really well if somone genuinely will punt you they're strings.... as they loose that 'brand new zing' very quickly.... (most brands do anyhoo!) Boiling them is not a good idea..... the resultant soup tastes like discarded incontinence pants, and it doesnt do the strings metallic structure any good heating them to 100c especially if they have been crio treated! The tone is only resurrected for a very short time anyway, and its not really worth teh effort. Its a much better habit to clean your strings after every use. ( I use fast fret)
16. Chris, Thanks.... Chrome? Pah! I put a set of D'addario chromes 45-100 on to start as these are my default string. I'm going to try a set of GHS precision flats next (with a 105 E string) to see if I can get a bit more out of the D tuner.... That being said its pretty good as it is...! As a side my guitarist (whose being playing 25odd years) had never seen a D tuner..... Now he's hooked and wants me to fit one to his Strat......
17. Pete, You could try D'addario 1/2 rounds. (round wounds ground off flat) I have tried them and they are almost exactly 1/2 way between flat and round, tonally.... I find 'em a bugger on my fingers tho' Bob. http://www.daddario.com/DADProducts.aspx?ID=3&CLASS=ACCA
18.
My issue with trying new strings is that I hate the sound of all strings for the first few months. Because of this, the three basses that I own all have their original strings on them. The only thing that would make me change would be breaking a string. I might start a second hand string donation thread.
The problem with that (and dont get me wrong, I dont like new strings either!) is that at some poiont you end up with flats worn into the underside of teh string where it contacts teh frets. This affects the string tone, intonation and eventually gives horrid fretbuzz as more often used frets, wear the string more..... I would snap bremens hand off at that offer as it seems a perfect solution for you...!
19. How about.... http://www.thomann.de/gb/yamaha_rbx_270f_mgr.htm
20. Dont know much about these but somone might be floated by it... Its cheap enough.. 21.
I think you know a little too much for one not initiated
Never say never...
22. WoT. Yep... In a Scout 112. Wasnt bothered about using the amp out ot the cab, but I have removed it a couple of times... Ohhhh I can make my mind up.....! If these had been Powerhouse of vintage powerhouse, I'd have had 'em already... But these are well heavy....
23. Thats std Highway one Cellulose finish.... Very stealth isnt it..... FYI my guitarist loves it.... He's well impressed by the even tone...
