I make plugs out of Spruce dowelling.... then stain them to match... But I am a bit anal about these things! the Bodster is spot on tho' you can do it with matches...

Are you absolutely sure its not a sympathetic harmony on another string? I cant see how the pups would pick up a harmonic from a part of the string that should be damped by your finger, and with no pup...... Just thinking out loud...

Did you mean £100 MORE......? Have you had a look on Thomman IIRC they are teh same price on there? I may be wrong....

That SII is indeed a lovely looking bass.... It doesnt sound to me that you have teh same connection with that new one as you do the oldie? I feel that you've answered your own question bud!

I have to say that for every decent person on that site, I now firmly believe there is one tw4t..... I feel for you..... DO you have any more 'crunches' I think I'd like one for me.....!

There are definately better Shergold experts on here (Shergoldsnickers comes to mind) But I have just worked on and set up a 12 string that my guitarist bought from, the guy that bought it from Mr Houlder (ordered in 1976) and has had it since..... Anyhoo he paid £325 for it and I expected a wonderful piece of kit by the way Neale was going on about it.... I have to say I was massively underwhelmed by it..... In their day they were among the very few 'custom makers" but its design is very dated now, it is an unusual beast with a long scale but although 'challenging to play" it sounds pretty good. I've only seen Neale play it once since I set it up! Quality wise they can be quite varied, although well built I feel they dont age well.... But i do have to say they can be bought for very little money compared to other makes of teh same age. I had a look at a bass (Marathon) and didnt like it..... but then I do have quite limited and pigeonholed tastes....! I have no idea if thats any help, but it my experience of them. They are a great platform for rebuilding. I will be selling mine soon but it will be more than that (pups and strings cost more than £100) Someone should snap his arm off for that price..... It can be knckered and its worth more than that. BTW if any of you buy that one anbd you want some original parts to renovate it contact me. I have a complete set of OEM hardware for it!

If your serious or want a go at it, ask for a detailed close up pic of teh back ot the headstock and check teh serial no against fenders tech suupport. Looks OK to me... in fact if I hadnt sorted out a H1 I would have a pop at it myself at its current price

What pups are they? The good stuff from Allparts will suffice unless they ooper dooper active jobbies.....
