3.
Is that a good 'un? I have no idea about these things, but I'd heard that 50W was too much for general guitar/bass soldering. Wouldn't surprise me if I was wrong though.
Whoever told you that was missleading you. Sometimes 50w isnt enough... Its HOW you use it not what you use.. there you go [topic="0"]solder[/topic] have yerself a little read.... Besides that Maplin one is variable... Bl88dy good value if you ask me. if you can get it with a couple of different size tips even better!

 5.
Hmm I never see other bassists in shops ! I'm always the only one there..
Thats my experience mostly.... I do always get a good reception at my fave shop in Lincoln, when I ask abotu bass stuf they normally go..... "phhooowww there bud, you know a lot more than I do..." I like that. I much prefer them to admit they dont know something than try to BS me... Not yet met another bass player in there. Yet to go to teh Gallery (must resist ) but found the BC a dismal place!

 17.
what is truly odd is that it is headed "only in America", on a board from the country that created the shooting brake class of usually very expensive automobiles, designed around the use of a shotgun
Here Here.... And whilst we're on the subject, the country whose aristocracy was responsible for alomst singlehandedly wiping out huge numbers of wonderful African creatures as 'trophies'..... creatures who were only killed so the assailant could brag about what a big animal he'd shot..... The same country that started whaling.... the same country that started the slave trade.... the same country killed thousands of foriegn nationals whilst on (religious) crusades, to impose thier religion upon 'heathens'.....
 18.
surely an Uzi would be far more efficient?
You've never shot an Uzi have you? I'd be impressed if you could hit a turkey the size of a small car using an Uzi without a stock (making it like a small, auto, assualt weapon) and evem then its a horrid little gun..... Bit like a handgun version of the AK47. Even if you were lucky enough to hit your xmas lunch with the Uzi, I'm afraid there would not be much left after hitting it with a 9mm PPC round.
 19.
3 names you should ONLY consider - Musicman, Lakland and G&L
In your humble opinion of course..... there are plently on here that would dissagree with that!
 20. Yawn..... off to the ebay thread where it can fester........
 21.
Just i have never heard of G&L basses and this bass certainly looks the part.
Where have you been? not heard of G+L?
 22. I REALLY hope this one is a joke..... Buy shotgun. Go to dude selling amp. Get amp for free.[ ???? PROFIT!
 23. Whats so funny about this? I have this quandry all the time..... GAS is a serious disease, it doesnt just affect musicians you know....
 24. Kev, I'm struggling with this one without examining the bass.. I cant see it being the pup as its not somting that they normallt do. it could have a loose pole piece but arent the EMGs sealed? Im wondering if its a pre amp problem.... Or an amp problem. You need to try the bass thru another amp to eliminate the amp, and then start looking into the pre amp onboard.
