Apparently he's responsible for Iron Maiden's success http://www.markpercy.co.uk/iron_maiden.htm

*yawn* I'm off down the pub to see if there are any bands I can rag on.
This is known as nominative determinism, all your songs should be chrismuzz songs
I should keep a tally of how many festive jokes I've had about my name over the last 10 years

Great result! Your years of dedication have clearly paid off! The only time my playing was ever mentioned in a review was once, saying that I was 'right in the pocket'
-
No suggestions here, I just wanted to say that I learned Slade's Merry Christmas the other night for a gig this Saturday. Great bassline! I practically never go walkies and it is a real challenge to remember/play something different. Really enjoy it!

Nice one I read a lot of good customer service stories on here which is great as companies that go the extra mile deserve recognition. And I like to know who is most deserving of my pennies

I've had work done on a couple of my basses by Andy too. He's easily the best I've ever known. He's done work other 'luthiers' told me was impossible, at shockingly good prices. It's a shame I now live over a hundred miles away from the guy!
Does it happen to your other band members? Perhaps it's you someone wants to replace...?
I hope not! If they want a sensible bassist who plays the songs properly I have a lot of competition

Why doesn't this hilarious sh*t ever happen to me?
If you are clipping the preamp, just back off the gain so that it doesn't clip or only does so on your loudest of notes.I've got a really aggressive plucking technique, and only clip the preamp when I seriously hit the strings. The battery problem that a few people have mentioned I think is a non argument. It doesn't take long to change a battery and it makes sense to change them fairly regularly. If it is going to die on you, you'll hear the drop in output or the crackle long before it actually goes.
You're right about the battery thing, I ALWAYS forget though With everything else.. I dunno, passive basses have always just worked out great for me
-
Fret clank is your friend Also when you attack the strings, instead of stroking your fingers on the string try to 'play through the string'. Basically hitting your finger across the string as if it's a pick. I get compliments on my attack style quite often using this approach. Bryan Beller is another player who uses this approach to great effect

I only own passive basses. Sold all of my actives, and I actively avoid anything which has active electronics. I find that I don't need the amount of tonal versatility that some can offer. A pickup selector, volume and tone is all I need, and all my other sounds are at my feet. In my experience, my aggressive picking technique has caused problems with the majority of active basses I've played. I end up clipping the preamp, or just getting WAY too much attack (Especially with Warwicks!). Passive pickups tend to be more... forgiving? In fact the tone in general tends to be either over trebly, or completely devoid of mids. Also, the battery and the preamp are just extra things which could go wrong. At least if my pedalboard breaks down I can bypass it and go straight to the amp!
You can get a 2nd hand EBS Multi Comp for about that price usually.
That was my first thought too! I'm sure for your budget you won't do much better

Woah... Blend knob and a crossover? Paint job looks awesome too!

Stage left or tage right. Who cares ?
As long as our M&Ms backstage are the right colour and I've not had to waste time folding small sandwiches at the tour manager I'm easy
You won't go onstage unless you have 10,000 brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass? -
Stage left or tage right. Who cares ?
chrismuzz replied to BILL POSTERS's topic in General Discussion
I much prefer having the drummer to my left. not sure why, but it does mean I'm less likely to smack my headstock off a wall! If there's already a bass cab set up at the other side of the stage I wouldn't mind making an exception though.... I like to be near my amp so I can hear myself loud and clear -
I agree with the OP, I think it looks incredibly cool and I'm always filled with anticipation whether it's my own band's gear, or a band I've gone to see. I hate the waiting game though if it's anything more than an hour. I just want to get up there and enjoy playing!

Oasis - Whats The Story Morning Glory Album
chrismuzz replied to Hobbayne's topic in General Discussion
I like Oasis. Everybody thinks I'm joking when i tell them this -
Another vote for Zoom here! I use the B3 for silent practicing, loud practicing, rehearsals and gigs!
-
I barely use them, but I've got a few 'Cactus Picks'. Don't know the thickness but they are pretty thin for use on bass I guess. They've got little prickly bits on them so they don't slip out of your fingers EDIT: Just checked and it's 0.75mm ... anyone else like them this thin??

Bloody 'promotors' + waste of time gig
chrismuzz replied to pietruszka's topic in General Discussion
If the gig is poorly attended, how is he raking it in..?
If he's booking loads of gigs all in a short space of time and getting a small fee from every venue, then even if he has way too many to promote properly (or just can't be arsed) then he could be making a reasonable amount of money I suppose. -
Could just save lugging all your fx gear and get an old hh cab and crank it up then , probably sound the same! I have gone the other way and gone super clean, must be my age, damn kids and their punk rock and 8 track players
Hahaha you might be right there! But this way I get the knackered speakers sound without the risk of sudden silence, smoke, fire, and cones flying out at breakneck speed I went through a super clean phase for ages, hence the Markbass rig! But then I discovered just how nasty this thing sounds with distortion and I couldn't resist! I am the nemesis of tone purists everywhere

Bloody 'promotors' + waste of time gig
chrismuzz replied to pietruszka's topic in General Discussion
It's funny how so many promoters never bother to do what their job title suggests, PROMOTE. but then even the arduous task of printing a few words on a piece of paper and sticking them on a wall is just way too much to ask of anyone I'm sure... In my opinion in situations like this it should be the band only that get paid because they did their part, and the promoter did not. -
Plenty of people use amps way over their cabs rating, I'm one for a start as are quite a few folk with 900watt heads I guess? How many people on this site alone have a genz streamliner 900 and a single neox 2x12T for a start? (I have a shuttlemax 9.2 and a neox cab) the ratings are a nonsense on most stuff anyway, use the old lug holes I say
I should do the same, but I prefer not to have that nagging thought at the back of my mind I wouldn't be able to judge using my ears anyways, my main tone is heavily compressed and goes through two stages of overdrive before it reaches the amp but then I doubt I'll ever need more than 500w so I don't need to worry!
