Do you tell your work colleagues that you play bass?
Oh, one time i plugged in my iPod and played rage against the machine. I then told them that it was my band, and i wrote the song. They all said it was good and they would listen to it if it was available to buy. Fools.
Haha, a bit naughty! But I've done this before to a mate. Came clean straight after though To answer the OP, I do talk about it if it comes up in conversation because it's something that interests me. i have walked into the office wearing my 'Bassist' t shirt as well! -
The above is sound advice, Mr F knows his stuff! But personally I'd always be way too paranoid to use a cab that isn't rated as high or higher than my amp

Guitar practice amps, about £100. Opinions and views. Ta

Peavey Vypyr 15 is what I'm inevitably going to go for when I get back into guitar. The Line 6 spider combos are really great too though. Both the guitarists in my band use one on gigs and they perform brilliantly and easily give my Markbass rig a run for its money! -
I'd suggest getting a 110 for the Drop D string and standard gauge for the rest - the only set that I can think of that comes with these gauges as standard that I used to use for many years is the Billy Sheehan signature Rotosound strings. He often uses his Hipshot D-Tuner to drop to a D on the 4th string but the 110 isn't too heavy when pulling back up to E. I did much the same until I moved straight on to six string basses. It's a brilliant set with a slightly lighter G string at .043.
Dammit, Rotosound are great and that set sounds perfect... but I just don't like them!
I hope you asked if he wanted to do that so that the guitarists cock would then be the same size as his, as he obviously had a penis envy situation going on?
God dammit, I wish i could think of stuff like this at the time

Good advice bro. Last gig I did some bloke came up to our lead guitarist, accused him of chatting up his missus, and threatened to snap his cock in half it's a good thing I'm the cheekiest git around after a few beers or he wouldn't have got ridiculously embarrassed at his questionable threat and walked off...

I need to stop reading these inexpensive overdrive pedal threads...
The 4x10 is going to be loads louder and handle loads more power than the 15, means that if the 15 starts farting out, the 4x10 will drown it out and you won't know to turn down. That's how 15s break when paired with 4x10s and its nothing to do with wattage numbers. Much better off getting two of the same cab, that you do like the sound of. If the 4x10 alone isn't low enough, replace it with something that is, and add more until loud enough.
Best answer by far!
What brand are you currently using?
I didn't think to ask that Stainless steel strings tend to feel a bit less floppy, and if they have a hexagonal core significantly more so! Elites Stadium Series, and D'Addario Prosteels tick both boxes. I THINK the steel Elixirs are hex cored aswell, they certainly are a chore to bend at the third fret
-
Hey buddy. My band uses the exact same tuning, and i use the same gauges as you too! I tried heavier (50 - 110) and the bottom string felt great but the D and G strings were just too stiff for my liking. I couldn't be bothered to mix and match sets so 45 - 105 actually works out best for me!

Andertons is a great store. I've only ordered from them once but would gladly order from them again and recommend them to others. Glad you got it all sorted
Hoping they'll start doing a Super-Light set of Stainless Steel 5's... I prefer 40-60-75-95-125 but they don't do those gauges in stainless steel..
If they catch on I'm sure they will.. I hope so!! I need them to do a .032 in steel for my 6 string too!
Surely that can be fixed by scraping the coating off at the ball-end?
The actual ball will be in contact with the bridge anyways so I guess not
This caused quite a stir. Roger Sadowsky on coated strings http://btpub.boyd-pr...client%3Dsafari
This is really interesting. I haven't noticed any noise using Elixir Nanowebs just yet but I'll look into it.
So you buy a relatively expensive and good quality amp head, but you're after cheap speakers? Nice one.
I just posted in another thread that I love the sound of my Markbass F1 through a Peavey 4x10
-
With regards to coated strings, I know that Elixir coats the entire string after it's made, so that no dirt, grease, or skin cells get stuck between the windings to deaden the sound. Other coated string makers (like DR) just coat the windings so they don't prevent this as well.

Peavey stuff is all great. I own three basses, all Peavey! I put my Markbass F1 through one of their TVX 410 cabs and it was one of the best live sounds I ever had too!
Is any of it miced?
Apparently they were very specific in their cab choices for studio use, so I would imagine so. -
lowballing .. definition and .. is it insulting ?
chrismuzz replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
I sold a bass with an intermittent jack socket a couple of years ago. I couldn't be bothered to fix it so I told the guy if he wanted to do it himself I'd decrease the price (I forgot how much, it was somewhere around £30 I think). He bought it at the lower price, and came to collect it that week. I never got a message or a phonecall from him so I assume he was happy
