1. If I'm learning a song I just stream it on YouTube. Not sure on the 'morality' of that one I used to download a lot of music, but I've always bought CDs, shirts, gig tickets and sung the praises of bands that I like. Nowadays I hardly download any music at all!
  2. Everyone has their own basic sound. The trick is finding the gear and settings which compliment it best!
  3. Better to have too much than not enough!
  4.
...SYB 5 is going back to previous owner because he can´t live without it so i have to buy it elsewhere ...FX25B is going away next week ...line6 m9 + expression is going to classifieds (I just down have patience to work with it properly) ...Pro Co Rat with LM chip is on the way to me ...I "need" new envelope filter ...I´m affraid that I will need new octaver and some chorus and flange...and I am afraid that I will also need Darkglass B3K. bloody GAS
Sounds like quite the journey! I'd love to know how a B3K sounds used with a Sansamp
  5. In most cases a new pickup will be a lot cheaper, a lot tidier looking, and in nearly all cases will make the most dramatic tonal difference... Well, that or a fresh set of strings which will cost even less!
  6.
After seeing the Nolly Bass Cam video, and watching some reviews, I'm GASing for a B3K
You and me both!! Good luck with the sale my man!
  7.
For each take, just before you start playing -clap your hands in front of the camera. This will give you an accurate video/audio sync point that should speed things up...
That's a great tip!
  8.
I would not entirely agree with chrismuzz above, about scales being good for your brain. While they are definitely important to know, equally so (or possibly more so) are chord tones/arpeggios and their inversions.
Totally! I shouldn't have rushed my reply really Jeff Berlin is a bloody great teacher! His music leaves me cold but I learn so much from him.
As I recall it was in a marquee outside as part of an arts festival. Remember being confused by the presence of monitors (''aren't these speakers facing the wrong way ?'') Dont know the punch and judy but have fond memories of a night in The Roadmender many years ago
I used to go to to the Roadmender's under 18 nights when they had bands on, after craftily swigging bottles of cheap booze outside . Good fun! The Punch and Judy was on the same street as the Soundhaus (RIP!). I remember InMe were playing the same night but they had sold out so a lot of people who couldn't get in came to see us instead... Packed the place out! Result!
  10. Welcome Bassic! I've been here for about 2 years and I've learnt more about bass playing and equipment that I ever did in my previous 7 years of plank spankin'
Cheers for that ! As an aside I notice that your next gig is at the commercial in Sandbach which was the first venue I ever played at :-)
Awesome First time playing there myself! It looks much cooler than the first venue I ever played at which was a cramped little pub in Northampton called the Punch And Judy

OK, I borrowed one of these about 9 years ago for a few months and I can confirm that it is the best sounding bass I have EVER played. Definitely worth the asking price, especially in this good condition! Those huge single coil pickups really pack a punch! Treat yourself
  13.
I have seen a white blade with a rosewood neck, and I know of a tan burst and a natural with rosewood necks but never any other colours. The rosewood was only in production for one year (I think). That's going to be a difficult spec to find. The blade is the way to go though. Good luck with your search!
Thanks man, I can tell you're a fan! I already regard Peavey basses as the best in the world for my needs so I can't wait to get my hands on one. I've decided this WILL be the year that I finally get one
  14. I've been gassing for one of these forever! Has anyone ever seen one in red, black, or white with a rosewood fretboard and blade pickups?
  15. Good luck with the sale! Those Grinds are really something
  16. Haha brilliant! Had me laughing all the way through. I am a serial pointless updater though... When I can be bothered to update that is
  17. I'd like an endorsement with either Markbass or Peavey some day, but only because I love their products, and I exclusively use Peavey basses and markbass amps so much and love talking about them. I think it would be awesome to be 'officially' associated with them, would make me feel pretty cool in myself too In truth I wouldn't have much to offer them in that I don't do any high profile work, so even though I wouldn't be asking for freebies or discounts I think my chances are slim. Guess I'll just stick to being an avid fan instead
  18. Practicing scales is good for your brain and your finger dexterity. But I also find learning songs to be extremely helpful too. And much more fun! Make a point of learning songs that you think are out of your reach ability-wise... A shock to the system will really make you tighten up your skills... and who knows You might surprise yourself with what you can accomplish!!
  19.
What about a passive Yamaha BBN5? I had one of these as my first 5 string, and used it for over 10 years. Great bass, well built and a really good entry bass for the novice 5 string player.
God damn I love the look and the sound of those BB's... It's a shame Yammy basses just don't "feel" right to me.
  20.
Well you're obviously a much better bassist now man!
Probably, I do miss being able to piss around at top speed though
  21.
I would say I was a much better bass player 8/9 years ago than I am today, so there must be some way of measuring skill/ability etc?
In the past years I've become better at timing and writing bass lines, and getting a good tone... But worse at playing fast technical stuff because I've focused on the former... So am I a better or worse player overall?
  22. Welcome to the site Tom! You're doing well mate, when I was 16 I only owned one bass and it cost me £50 Enjoy your journey!
  23. I like Jeff Berlin. Much more so as a teacher though, the majority of his music doesn't interest me.
  24.
Could do even better with those flathead cables from Planet Waves! Even so, well done!! Truckstop
Flathead cables? I am intrigued!
  25.
Hi! Is this pedal better or worse than the Boss gt 10b in your opinion?
Personal opinion only, but I prefer Zoom effects to Boss ones for the most part. Though the Boss would probably be a lot more solidly built!
