1. I once posted in the Hartke Club thread on the 'Murican site that the name is short for "Horrible American Rubbish That Keeps Exploding", that was also a sore point Just to be clear, I actually really like Hartke gear, I used one of their Kickback 12 combos for ages and it was incredible!
2. It's the easiest and one of the most effective ways for new bands to promote themselves, and with my band we pretty much use it exclusively to book gigs. We even have venues and promoters contact us through it and have gained many bookings that way. For me, it is an absolute necessity.
3.
We are NOT going to try and palm it off!
I occasionally palm off fake pound coins (I know, I know!), but I'd be too scared to palm palm off a fifty even if I was that much of a dodgy geezer, which I'm not
4.
I stated the facts. If Hartke or BC Moderators for that matter don't like it then that is too bad. I believe I have the right to state what I believe to be true or do we simply keep quiet about issues and no-one gains from the situation. I certainly hope we are not turning BC into a suppressive forum. It should be open to all comments provided they are not derogatory or abusive.
No problem here buddy, I think it's just the thread in general has got a little prickly so not to worry. You're absolutely right in that the bad feedback should go with the good to give a true representation of a company or its products and people can make up their own minds. That's the beauty of forums that we can share this kind of information.
5.
Mention the problems and leave the initiative with them to offer a return/replacement/partial refund. If they don't, then weigh in with what you want.
This. You're covered by the distance selling regs for 7 days and it would be in their best interests to try and keep you happy rather than return the bass. Besides, as above, their customer services are very good.
6. If it was me, I'd take my rig anyway. it's not going to kill them to have you move a combo off the stage for half an hour!
7. Only £95?? I knew they were incredible basses at a bargain price point but when I opened this thread I expected to read that you'd paid around £500 for it!
8. The only cab I ever tried mine through that I didn't like was a random one in a rehearsal studio with a broken speaker WIthin that budget the first cab that came to mind was a Peavey TVX 410, sounded huge and really clear! There's also a fair few Genz Benz cabs for sale on here at the moment within that range and I've heard very good things about their cabs. And if you're after a really bright tone perhaps Hartke?
9.
I assume from the cone's 200w handling the sound is still crystal clear at full whack?
You can overpower MB speakers and they'll still sound really clear so I imagine so!
10. I think Warwick may still do a .175 gauge which is still massive. Just to let you know, I have a 35" bass tuned to A with a .152 gauge string on it (custom made by Newtone), and after a few years I've decided it's actually a bit too heavy!
11.
Name one other owner in this trade who would have this level of interaction
Marco De Virgiliis of Markbass But yeah, I appreciate the sentiment, it's great when company representatives, especially owners will get in touch with their customers directly
12. With regards to the cab, I'd always go for 8 ohm over 4 ohm. You will probably lose 1-2dB of volume, but gain the ability to add a second cab, and significantly reduce the risk of overpowering your cab with pretty much any amp!
13. I can't imagine Markbass selling anything that would sound inferior, give it a go!
14. Done! Very good questions, it will be interesting to see what you come up with!
15. My only experience with forgeries has been the odd dodgy pound coin. I tend to just be a bit naughty and use it amongst other change to pay for a pack of cigarettes or bus fare. I don't know if I'd risk it with a £50 note, but my thinking is that if you contacted the venue about it they'd be likely to say they had no idea, and it was your responsibility to check the money yourself before leaving.
16.
I'm quite pleased that the dong on the back of the body isn't pictured
I don't think when he described it as 'seriously pornographic' he was being quite so literal.
17. Interesting how on the back you can only see four tuners
18. Hey why not? You could always put something up as a "feeler" just to see what people might offer up!
19. If you post a bunch of ads in the marketplace you'd no doubt get a lot of cool offers!
20. I have the pickups on full, then set the amp to where I can hear it comfortably. Then during soundcheck I stand in front of the stage and if I'm not loud enough I'll go onstage and turn up as much as possible. I learned from experience that if the bass isn't already audible in the mix, that's either the way the sound engineer intended it, or the PA can't handle that much bass so I just use my backline
21. Marshall? Try a Marshall Jackhammer, they sound great on bass and can go from clean tone shaping, to mild warmth or grit, and the way up to face melt mode!
22. This is only personal preference, but I would put a distortion pedal before the Zoom if only using it for tuner and delay
23. I've heard a lot of reliability issues with the PF 350 and 500. Markbass heads are good, powerful and reliable with great tone though. I still use an F1 until I can find a suitable Peavey head to replace it with!
24. Bryan Beller is one of my favourite bass players. That super aggressive fingerstyle he uses is the 'improper technique' that I've used since I started playing, and its cool that he's able to explain how it works in a way that's easy to understand.
25.
..?
I think it's a good idea. Every so often somebody asks why they can't post an ad and it turns out its due to the fee. I guess those of us that spend our lives on here take the rules for granted and forget they're not immediately obvious to regular folk
