  1. I'd imagine you've developed a very musical ear after all these years, good on ya ! I think the thing to do is get in contact with some tutors and tell them what you want to learn - you're paying for the lessons so you should be able to ask for what you want. Start the lessons and see where it takes you, don't worry too much about what you think the lessons will be like. Dabble that toe.
  2. The Only Living Boy In New York. Sublime.
  3. I think you should gird your soldering loins and have a look at Fuzzdog's Klo(w)n Buffer kit, if there's enough space in your, um, cavity. https://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/Klon_Buffer/p847124_6346591.aspx I've made quite a few of their kits and they're nicely done.
  4. You made me realise by My Bloody Valentine....with the 20 min noise section
  5. Which model of Spector is it ?
  6. PM'd about the GT2
  7. Here's something I pondered upon one day whilst thinking about impedance problems when driving certain sorts of fuzzes. How about putting something with a less-than-ideal output impedance in front of the fuzz ? Something like an EHX LPB-1 ? The output impedance EHX quote is 10k...in the same ball park as a pickup. So off I went and tried it - I added an LPB-1 circuit to a Woolly Mammoth clone I'd built and, well....gone was the thinness (also an extra gain stage....cool !). I've done the same trick with a Fuzz-Face a friend gave me....stick an LPB-1 in front at unity gain, it fattens it up nicely.
  8. I'll be needing a fresh cup of tea then, my laptop's wearing my last one
  9. Yep, first half-way decent amp I had as well. Aaaah.....memories. GLWTS
  10. I've read that obeche is a fairly light wood - some of the Shergolds suffered with balance problems because of it.
  11. Do let us know how it turns out - I've been thinking of putting together a Telemaster-style thing with mini-humbuckers.
  12. If someone wants to hear me play bass I'll play one of my basslines, not someone else's. And I'm certainly not out to show off, but then that may be down to how I play bass
  13. Nice work, looking good ! You've got a new guitar and had fun making it....or at least I hope it was fun You've got me back about building something now, dammit
  14. One sacred cow criticising another....wow, it's like a war in heaven !
  15. "Neck-dive"
  16. Aaaah, the old 'cut-and-paste-the-cryptic-crossword-clue' boo-boo. Happens to everyone.
  17. I think it's a nice ad, he's basically saying that if you're only bothered about younger players then don't get in contact...and doing it with with a smile. To the kind of band he seems to be after it makes sense - he may put some folks off with his saltiness, but maybe he wants folks with a similar sense of humour...
  18. I see. The 308 models do have a bit more 'mojo' about them, so good luck !
  19. Snake oil IMHO - if you really want a RAT with an LM308, then buy one without and fit one. Even if you can't do it yourself, paying someone would be cheaper than those prices. I retrofitted an LM308 in my Turbo Rat, just to see how strong the snake oil it contained was. Cost me a few quid and 20 mins with a soldering iron. I left the 308 in but the difference between the original chip and the 308 didn't warrant the effort to my ears.
  20. There's info on pot date codes here. The LM308 was the original chip used in the RATs and has more caché than the later models that used a different one- the 308 is supposed to sound better, but it's possible some snake oil may be being touted...I'm not that convinced having A-B'ed a few over the years. A very good article here on why the Rat sounds like it do in case you're interested, with some info on the 308 chip.
  21. Odd, if I see an advert clearly not aimed at me, I just shrug and move on. I don't develop 'issues' with the advert and try to imagine what sort of people would post an advert like that, or indeed who would reply. Criticise those people for their imagined motives ? No thanks...it's a exercise in prejudice, the end result of which is deriding a bunch of people you don't know and have no reason to have anything to do with and aren't affecting you in any way. YMMV of course.
  22. I like that - good song, and very nicely produced. Video works well with the tune too.
  23. Perhaps the song is written from the point of view of a patron of a laundry. He could just be after a service wash. It would explain why he mentions that his suit is made of of sack, different washing cycle probably.
  24. Now, I may have a way of doing this by only weighing one part...much simpler. OK, get your kitchen scales and weigh the heaviest bit, the body.... Now, we need a region of really flat space-time, and I mean flat...let say centre of the Boötes Supervoid, about 700million light years away, somewhere nice and empty. OK, carefully, one at a time, put each part of the bass in orbit around the body - far enough away to treat the body and part as a point masses. Note the angular velocity of each orbiting piece, and so derive their masses, tot them up and there you go. It's the elegant simplicity of the solution that appeals to me
  25. Not for this thread All valid points.
