1. Just one bloody great band, used to go and see them at the Victoria Theater in London before they went mega big. Happy days.

3. I joined Basschat last year and it's been an education as I knew bugger all about the history of my bass. When I bought it around 1996, I was told that it was a USA '57 RI P Bass and that was it. To me, it was just a lovely looking Fender and it played great. It was on sale in a record/T-shirt/ music shop in Chelmsford as a private sale and I had been looking out for a P- bass for a while. I have always loved a natural finish on a bass, my first proper bass being a Ricky 4001 fretless maple glow back in the early '70's. Any road up. When I put up some photos of it on here, I was soon made aware that not all was well. It was pointed out to me the the finish was not original but it had been stripped back and then varnished. This was around the same I took the neck off and dated it as a '83 Fullerton model. Now here's the big question. What should it have looked like in the first place. The pick guard is painted white but looks like it's gold underneath. Should I strip the paint off it to bring it back to it's original condition? What was the finish? Sunburst or white or was there any other colour that these were made in? I would like to point out that I will not do a refinish myself apart from the PG if possible but will get a luthier to do it. Any suggestions on who could tackle this would be welcome. I might end up just getting a set up again and leaving the rest of it as it's got my history on it and I have RA so it won't be playing it too much in the future. What do you think? Pictures here. 4. Herbie flowers is still playing great at the tender age of 73. Would like to my hands in his Jass Bass, it looks soo cool.
5. I would love to do jury service on Rip Off and Son's, sorry Music Grounds trial, but the chances are slim.
6. Sad news indeed. RIP Jet.
7.
This'll end up in the usual argument, you mark my words
No it won't.
8. I am 56 with shoulder length dyed blond hair, false teeth, glasses and wrist supports. I feel like a dodgy eBay Fender. "Honest Gov', I'm an original 1955".
9. This would suit me with all the bum notes I play.
10. I have RA and started looking for a lighter bass and I also think that the SR500 is a great bass and so light, very high on my GAS list.
11. That is a really nice tone on the bass, was that the WAL?
12. OK, Would you rather you were a musician in a...... A. A originals band? B. A tribute band. There's only one way to find out. FIGHT.
13. I would support a status bar showing either "for sale" "sold" etc compulsory as I waste a lot of time reading the same threads because my memory is shot.
14. 1955 P Bass, a fine vintage, wish I could afford one.
15. I'm glad it's not just me then, I thought that I was being over critical of the 'Bird but it felt so wrong to me. I've never played another bass that I felt so disappointed with.
16. For as long as I have played the bass, I have always gassed for a Gibson Thunderbird but just never got round to getting one. Well, yesterday I tried one for the first time and bloody hated it. . I loved the tone but it just felt so wrong for me so it's back to the old P-bass. I feel gutted as I really felt that this would be bass heaven for me. What a bummer. Have you ever had the same experience with your dream bass?
17. I'm looking for a special bass for my 60th birthday and I think this is it. Please hold it for me for 4 years.
18. You Lucky basstard, great site.
19.
Gig went amazingly well for our first gig, nailed everything! Felt like i gigged last week and hadn't lost any stage presence i'll try and get some videos up if any were taken! Oh and the vass terror performed very very well! Plenty of volume and tone for days.
Sounds frightening. German band is it? Glad it went well, you can't get a better feeling (almost) than having a sound you are happy with and really enjoying the gig.
20.
Oddly enough.... I was rehearsing at SoundBase studios in Wellington & what did I see?..... One of these Jedsons in cream!!.... bizarre! ...it was soo small!.... could hardly get my fat fingers to fit the frets!.... took me back a bit! it had them black tape wound strings on it.... weren't they called tru-bass?
That was my first bass to. Played a lot of gigs with it before getting a Ricky fretless. What a contrast.
21. I liked your last clips when you fitted the East, can't wait to hear it in anger now that you have had time to fall in love with it.
22. Back in the early '70's, I had a Marshall slop fronted 4x15 cab, monster sound and built like a tank and weighed the same. It took 2 to carry it, I shudder to think of it as the half of a stack. No wonder I I'm clapped out now. Light weight cabs would have been bliss.
23. Thanks to the OP for bringing up this topic, it's made me go back and listen to Weather report again. It's been a while and it still get me. great stuff. And I love a good Burp.
